The chip designs of Bram Nauta

  • Polder pioneers is back! In this episode (from the popular Dutch website tweakers.net) we will visit chip architect Bram Nauta. In the late eighties he designed a circuit that later became essential for a lot of electronics and now bears his name: the 'Nauta' circuit. Companies like Nokia, Ericsson and Texas Instruments used its design and applied it in mobile phones, televisions and other electronics. Today it still finds application in many electronic devices
    Nowadays Nauta is professor in Integrated Circuit Design at the University of Twente. Together with his team of students and colleagues, he works on new technical challenges in the field of wireless communications. Thanks to his designs, mobile phones, are more energy efficient, the speed of data transfer increases, and the received signal is better.

    I wish I can find the paper that describes this circuit in detail, including the positive feedback and stability concerns.
