    Another excellent video David! So many of my nursing students are graduating right now, so I will definitely pass it on. Thanks for your support on my psychology channel too. It's always cool to see how much our ideas connect. Two countries apart! Andrea

      @@DabidRobinson Great Questions! I live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Across the border from Detroit Michigan. I teach nursing psychology at both St. Clair College and the University of Windsor. Both BScN programs. Students went full online on March 13 2020, and if they choose, they are doing their practicums in the local hospitals during COVID-19. Which is incredible practical experience for them. They also have the choice of waiting until the Fall to make up their clinical hours. Lots of real life learning happening right now! Which is why I am so grateful to have 145 psychology videos on my RUclips site - and more to come tailored to my students over the summer. And as you can tell from this long response, I miss connecting with people in real life! Stay well my friend. Your husband too! xo

      That is really nice that your students even have the option to continue clinical. All clinical here have been stopped, my sister is in her second block and since clinical is stopped they are making her do these online modules. So she can't even make up the clinical hours, so it's really like she is missing out

    Infection Control Practitioner is a timely stream to take your BSN and nursing career. It takes you away from direct patient care and shift work, however like most nursing specialties does require some basic medicine or surgical ward experience. "APIC" website has plenty of education opportunities to become an ICP.

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  4 года назад

      Honestly I am not familiar with this... and actually have never heard of it. Where can you get a job at as an infection control practitioner?

    • @depatie99
      @depatie99 4 года назад +1

      @@DabidRobinson Infection Control Practitioner jobs are found at most hospitals and many regional health organizations hire ICP's or IP's at long term care facilities and to a lesser extent for community health care centres. The number of ICP's hired at a facility is usually based on number of beds. At an 800 bed acute facility you may have as many as 5-8 ICP's practicing whereas in a hybrid facility with both acute care and LTC facility combined, you would have fewer ICPs as LTC facilities are allowed to operate with fewer ICPs on site. Although I am Canadian, I feel America values the Infection Control profession more as hospitals are penalized financially for hospital acquired infections in their patient population. Most health care facilities are required to have ICPs on site to meet accreditation requirements. The annual APIC conference is something I like to attend as it is a National US conference with around 5,000 attendees and there are usually representatives from Canada, Japan the UK and the US military.

      @@DabidRobinson I made a home made video a couple of years ago for the site I worked at to describe the "Role if the ICP"... below is the link if you are interested...

      Then with all that being said I am sure my hospital has a couple. I am going to ask around, thanks for the information. I have not been to that conference but I have been to others and miss them!! Thanks for sharing

    I actually thought about NP programs....BUT.....after seeing how limited NP's autonomy is....that quickly changed my mind. I know each state is different BUT i live in a full autonomy state for NP and i work at the state's biggest teaching hospital. NPs were given protocols and algorithms to follow orders and create orders. This is embarrassing! They can only do things that are laid out for them, very little input of self- clinical decisions. They were treated as residents, doing all the dirty work. I heard that although some states might have no NP practice restriction, most hospitals still have in-house restrictions for PA/NP. I was so shocked! The only hospitals that give 100% physician like privileges to NP are the VA hospitals. They made a public announcement about it a few years ago with a bunch of doctors crying and complaining about the decision. I work with a lady whose partner is an NP at a VA hospital. She were able to practice fully with accepting and discharging patients and make all clinical decisions for them. They pay isn't as high as private hospitals, I think it pays less than an associate degree travel nurse. More degrees= more opportunity, not necessary more money. That's my 2 cents.

      @DabidRobinson  4 года назад +1

      YESSS I totally agree, with an NP it is as if you are a physician but... there are way more restrictions, and also the pay... Sometimes people think that once you leave the bedside your pay is going to sky rocket but really... bedside nurses are the ones really in demand. I really like that idea, of more degrees means more options not money. That is a good video idea lol

    Starting the GCU program for my BSN on Monday and feeling really nervous, I have never done an online course and need guidance on how to get started with my assignments ~ Melinda~

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  4 года назад +1

      The main thing is, getting the hang of formatting your papers in APA format. Once you have a good template, just save it to your desktop and use it for every paper. I don't recommend reading all the chapters they assign because you will never finish. Utilize the search bar in the books to find quotes that fit into your assignments. I was nervous also, when I first started because I never took an online course. I would not over think the assignments. Generally they are pretty easy in grading. Let me know if you have any more questions

    What if a college has their ACEN or CCNE at one location but not in their others locations. What does this mean? Does it mean I should only to the location listed with the accreditation on the website.
