i think Katniss voted for the Hunger Games to align herself with President Coin in order to gain her trust. she knew Coin thought she was a threat and even wanted her dead. by voting for the games she lulled Coin into a false sense of security so that she would never suspect Katniss of going against her agenda moving forward. she believed Katniss was finally fully on her team, so she trusted her with the execution. and... we know how that went!

I just love how realistic these books are. Like, if all of this actually happened, this is how it would've turned out

I can't agree that it was out of character for her to vote yes on the last Hunger Games, because the only reason she does it, as far as I understood it, was to put Coin at ease. They made it a thing that, if your immediate reactions isn't to support and agree with Coin, then you will be considered a threat, so... obviously, if she in any way gave Coin a reason to think that Katniss was not on her side, and might be disagreeing or challenging her view of the future Panem, it would kind of ruin her one chance to take out Coin before she become the next Snow and makes their victory over Snow mean nothing as nothing much really changed in the end. I mean, I also read that as the reason Haymitch says "I am with the Mockingjay", and not "I vote yes", or "I am with Joana, Katnis and Enobaria"... because he understands what she is doing, or why she is doing it, and he aligns himself with her because of THAT. I never read it as either of them WANTING one last Hunger Games, and as Katniss killed Coin before she could ever announce that plan I doubt they ever even happened, which I think is the only reason they were fine with voting yes to more children being sent to die in the arena - they knew it would never actually become a reality for the children of the Capitol.

I always saw Katniss' decision about the final games was a maneuver because it was at this moment she knew that she was going to take out Coin. By voting yes, she gained the right to demand to be the one to kill Snow (which allowed her to kill Coin instead). I just wished that they hadn't hidden that from the reader. The only hint you have of her thought process is her comment about how Haymitch understood her.
I believe that, in that moment, they were both on the same wave-length: Coin had to go. Voting for the final games was a means to that end. Katniss knew that Coin's successor would never let the games go ahead.

Katniss voted for the games because she knew that coin needed to think that she was 100% on her side so that way she wouldn't think that she was planning to kill her.

Personally catching fire was my favorite book the plot was so interesting, and so many new characters were introduced. The first book was okay, but mockingjay was a mess. So many things were going on in mockingjay it was just a disaster
    Spoiler alert:
Collins's made a huge mistake killing Finnick, he was one of my favorite characters. Finnick didn't even get to see his kid and that's so sad. I wish Gale died instead of Finnick because gale was soooo annoying. Honestly think Collins should write a book about Finnick when he was in the games. I want to know more about Finnick when he was younger, and I want to see things from his perspective

katniss agremeent of capitol children hunger games was because she already was planning to kill coin and obviously if she kills coin no games and revenge for prim, i think the moment when she kills coin even the readers get shocked bc it was thrown in our faces but kill her was always her plan

This! It was impossible to eliminate Coin, bodyguards and all, without a weapon. Even Haymitch actually just gave Katniss a cue. He would die for them gladly, but armed Katniss was only one who could kill exposed Coin. Going along with the monstruous plan was the only way to do it. Snow was a gonner anyway but Coin was untouchable. Maybe, more obvious clues about Coin's security guards would make it crystal clear. Collins is awsome in trusting that knowing Haymitch and Katniss would sufice for us to get it. You are fantastic in all of your other observations!!!!!!!!!!

girl... I absolutely loved this video; it's everything my high school self wanted when she read the books. no one else around me read them at that time, and I had ALL of these thoughts bubbling inside, and now having them articulated-very well, might I add-out here for me to consume... I am satisfied.

i personally loved that the revolution ends without us seeing it, its such a great perspective on how revolutions are about so much more than the individual, and nothing katniss did really mattered in the end, she still lost prim and the powers that be got their way with or without her

In Catching Fire, I definitely gasped several times! Namely Snow’s surprise visit and then the announcement about the Third Quarter Quell!

i prefer Peeta over Gale just because Katniss was going trough a lot, and she wasn´t thinking about who she would end up with and Gale was SOO annoying!! like, the girl is in the middle of a rebellion, we don´t need you to bring this up every two seconds. Peeta on the other hand only cared about her well being. Katniss and Gale connected because they´ve known eachother since forever, they hunt together, they care for eachother´s family, but that´s it. Katniss loves him as a brother and everytime they kissed it was so forced by Suzanne just because idk she wanted to add some points for Gale or whatever, and Gale even said she only kissed him because she felt sorry for him. Katniss and Peeta as you said had a human connection cause Peeta prevented her from starving and they went through two hunger games together, but she was 16/17, she didn´t care to be with someone. All she wanted was to be safe with her family. When everything ended and Katniss went back to District 12, Peeta was there and as Gale was involved not in a direct way with the death of her sister, she chosed Peeta because he was the only one left. He was on the right place at the right time, when Katniss was voulnerable and alone. Maybe she would have fallen in love with him either way, but i feel that if Katniss didn´t have to choose for the sake of the plot, she would have ended up single.

lidamybae I kinda feel like katniss shouldn’t have been with anyone in the end. She was only 17 when the books ended. She didn’t need a man- she needed a friend :)

Gale and Katniss- battle buddies. Keep each other alive. Survive together. Gale also pushes every boundary, and is extremely whiny, and needy, and it's only about what HE wants and feels.
Katniss and Peeta- not only survive, but remind each other that they're human and to truly live. They also remind each other of selflessness and kindness. They bring out the best in each other.

I always thought Katniss voting yes was to get on Coin’s good side, so she would trust her enough during the ceremony where Katniss killed her. If she voted no, Coin most likely wouldn’t trust her

(Spoilers) Another example of how the inner monologue improves the story is Katniss's feelings for Gale. I was watching the movies with a friend (who hadn't read the books) and she didn't really see Katniss's connection with Gale, then I realized most of her chemistry with him is established in her head. In the books we get to hear Katniss think about why Gale is so important to her and see her feelings for Gale grow. In the movies, we don't really get any of that. It's just kind of established that she likes Gale and that's it. Of course, Gale changes over time causing Katniss to lose her feelings for him, but still.

This might be unpopular, but I hated how the first book basically ripped of the battle royale book, which in my opinion will always be superior to the first hunger games. But the last two books I actually quite enjoyed, despite their issues. Overall they were okay for ya dystopian book, but the pov was so bothering after a while.... And gale is🤮
