The goose step was created by Prince Leopoldo of Anhalt-Dessau, also known as the Old Dessauer. He was one of the top generals of King Frederick William I and the famed and renowned Frederick the Great.
I was stationed in Germany in the late 70s. I must say I love Germany, and I love the German people. The goose step looks like it would be difficult to do for a long time.
Yes it is. If you watch some other videos they explain how Germans would goose step for just a brief period in honor of luminaries attending the parade, then go back to normal marching. We're made to believe they marched like that all the time because we only see clips of them goose stepping in front of H. It is well done, but it is far from anything close to the Russian May Day Parades. Search up the Chilean military parades if you want a true German march. Germany has long abandoned their impressive parades.
***** This is just a local parade. Russian May Day Parade they practice long and hard for it and still do not match in step with the music it's pathetic. There is this one SS clip showing them marching down the street, the only staging done is the camera angles to show the least march worthy members of the unit in the back so they were hard to see, but they still kept the entire unit rather than picking soldiers from lots of units that fit the bill just for a single day's marching on holiday. Not so much for looking pretty as it is to just make it easier marching in step with the guy in front. You can expect much stricter regulations on who and what goes on parade during, say, a parade celebrating Hitlers birthday as opposed to a parade celebrating something considered less significant. In the end they're all achieving military discipline and a good display of it.
