      @Runningonthemind yes and thank you. I normally would wear the 47mm size but bought the 51mm and have got used to that size and enjoy the larger screen. I haven't noticed the weight difference too much.

    • @Runningonthemind
      @Runningonthemind  8 дней назад +1

      @@craigthorp4913 only issue I ever had was the occasional crazy HR reading for about 10-20 seconds where it would go up to about 110+ when I was actually down at 65-70 relaxing. It didn’t happen often but was likely due to the alignment being slightly out on the bigger watch (fit error). My wrist is about 20cm so 51mm is still quite big in my arm. I will still keep mine despite having the Fenix.

    • @craigthorp4913
      @craigthorp4913 8 дней назад

      @@Runningonthemind my wrist is slightly between 18 and 18.5cm. So i thought the 51mm maybe too big but I have got used to it. I also have the Epix Gen 2 but in 47mm and that is comfortable for my wrist size. This is purely cosmetic but I like and much prefer the larger band size (26mm) of the 51mm than the (22mm) for the 47mm. And what I really like is the 31 day battery life of the 51mm. My screen is activated with me moving my wrist so I'm presuming that accentuates the battery life.

    Good video. I really enjoyed your honest comparison. I’m a big Garmin fan and have been upgrading in the past almost always the day a new watch came out. This is the first time since I started with the F6, that I am pretty disappointed by the latest version. I was initially waiting for the Tactix 8 but right now I am pretty sure I’ll keep my Epix Pro and wait for a more innovative watch…maybe MicroLed or something else. The F8 as well as the new I3 are lackluster but expensive.

      Thank you for the kind feedback. Honest and balanced reviews are what I try to do on my channel - £1000 or $1000 is a lot of money and people sometimes make the wrong choice because of sponsored reviews on youtube. I'm here to help people with real world consumer feedback without pressure to say what the manufacturer wants me to say :-). Personally I think that the Epix pro will be good for many years to come so I don't think there is a rush to change as it's already in a select few of the very best sports smart watches you can buy (IMO).

  • @1MountainLife

    • @Runningonthemind
      @Runningonthemind  2 дня назад

      @@nrobinson973 100% the upgrade to Epix gen 2 is worth it and I can say that from personal experience. Only go for Fenix 8 if you dive or would like to use voice assistant. The operating system is slightly better on the Fenix, but it’s mostly cosmetic and doesn’t add functionality. If you weight train the the Fenix 8 has a weight training coach which I don’t think the Epix has, but other than that all is pretty much the same.

    Only regret I have over my Epix Pro Gen2 47mm purchase a little over a year ago is choosing the 47mm over the 51mm, I like the slightly larger 1.4 screen over the 1.3 & longer battery life. This is the only reason I'm contemplating upgrading to the Fenix 8 51mm (possibly the MIP version for even longer battery life) & giving my daughter my Epix. If I had the Epix Pro 51mm upgrading wouldn't even be a thought unless Samsung Galaxy (with the 1.5 screen & capability to record snoring during sleep) & Garmin came together to create the ultimate smart-sport watch with great battery life.

    • @Runningonthemind
      @Runningonthemind  2 дня назад +1

      That’s a fair assessment, I contemplated the 47mm too when I got the Epix but the battery is what convinced me. Not to say the battery on the 47mm is bad, it’s good compared to the other brands, but having a month of battery feels very reassuring and as you say, the larger screen is nice. I think I’d do the same as you here and get the Fenix 8 and give your daughter an amazing gift 👌🏼

      I actually found that after a day or two it stopped that and it seems (touch wood) that the occasional delay or sluggishness has gone. Hopefully that continues 🤞🏼

      @@Runningonthemind For me it didn't... Only time it seemed fluid was straight after an update, but the next day, the little stutters and slugginess came back

      I have a tactix 7 amoled I'm looking to get the Fenix 8. Do you think it's a downgrade or more of a upgrade

      @ the tactix 7 Amoled is very much like the Epix pro gen 2 but with different training and sports available. You have the military type features whereas the Epix gen 2 and the Fenix 8 have the majority of the same features but not the military ones. I’d say that the differences between the tactix 7 and the Fenix 8 are similar to the differences (physically) between the Epix and the Fenix 8… essentially you’ll get different functionality built into the Fenix for more day to day activities rather than military ones in the same case, same battery, same materials (mostly). Not an upgrade or downgrade, but different used case and you’ll get the newer operating system with the Fenix and the speaker and mic which depends on if that’s useful to you 👍
