  • Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou emphasises that improvement on the pitch doesn't always have to be on the back of financial success. With Spurs in the box seat to secure Champions League football for next season, Postecoglou argues that the improvement within his squad is of far greater importance to him than qualifying for Europe's premier competition.

    It's going to be tight between Villa and Spurs for that 4th place although 5th place may be enough. Crazy to think there might be 6 English teams in the Champions League next year

    • @bungaIowbill
      @bungaIowbill Месяц назад

      Anything over 5 is unlikely (West Ham need to win Europa or Liverpool/City need to fall below 5th), but _technically_, there can even be 7 teams if City win UCL and fall below 5th and West Ham/Liverpool win Europa without being top 5

      @@electricpeople Levy is in the land grab business. His priority is gentrifying Tottenham & the stadium was his Trojan horse. Getting the stadium has allowed enic preferential access to the surrounding area with the council. The cost of the stadium is a drop in the pan compared to the amount of profit they can make if they're improving the land value, building & then renting/selling hundreds of flats in the London borough.

      The journos keep asking him about this because they want to dictate the narrative that success for Ange at Spurs this season depends on whether they qualify for Champions League (and if they don’t, the assumption is that the board and Levy and some fans might think that Ange fell short).

    • @amdistant5547
      @amdistant5547 Месяц назад

      The interviewer wasn't a knob, he was simply saying if you qualified for Champions League you'd get more money to spend on better players. Ange was saying money helps but it's not everything. They were both right but Postecoglou was more correct because we've seen plenty of money teams fail.

    Journalists Vs Spurs.
    Now they've lost the Harry Kane question every segment, can't destabilise the team and manager about Harry's future anymore...
    Now it's bore Spurs fans with reminders of not winning a trophy and champs LGE every week.
    There is simply no need for this many conferences where people get paid for doing exactly the same, as the last conference.
    Sports journalists are clickbait merchants. They don't cover sport.. they cover their editor's boring talking points and print sensationalist garbage. How many times does he need to answer the same question?
    Do we need to hear it? Is it news? Does their talking point matter or change this weekend? Clowns.

      Well Chelsea spent £600 million on players and where are they in the league? Everton spent over £500 million since 2017 and they’re battling relegation for the last 3 years.
      I think he’s saying money isn’t everything.
      And whatever the club finances are, you can get good results by spending it wisely, rather than rapaciously trying to maximise profits at every turn.

      How many ways and how many times can he answer the same dam question to be fair though. From an elite, professional coach's point of view it makes perfect sense. He's trying to build long term and get to a place where Klopp got to after a good few seasons. And not just settle for 4th. These journo's if you can call them that oughta just move on from this daft question in all honesty. He's clearly not going to change the way he frigging answers it. It's just stupid now. this guy is a complete puppet now. 545 million in revenues one of the richest clubs in the world and he says we're not banks? We're not banks but we're a very rich football club who's owners simply refuse to compete for trophies. Apparently Pep, Klop, Haag and Arteta all need star quality players to help them push for a league title but Super Ange doesn't need star quality players at all?

    • @jjr2574
      @jjr2574 Месяц назад

      Are you stupid or stupid? 🤦
      His point is that football clubs are judged by their footballing performances not their finances. Improving the squad and making it play better football is much more important than just boasting a higher revenue. No point being happy with a 4th place finish this year and then get knocked out in the CL group stages and finish 10th next year. There's no progress

    • @jjr2574
      @jjr2574 Месяц назад +7

      Getting quality big names should never be a target for any club. PSG tried that and never got past UCL quater finals in the last 3 years and are currently 3-2 down in the first leg at home against a completely broken barca.
      You sign players who fit the system. It's not about splashing 100 million everywhere. Spurs fans were angry at the board when they signed VDV. Why? Cuz he was not a big name back in 2023 Aug. Now? Ange's system works because of him (the CB with the fastest recovery pace in Europe)
      Scouting unknown/upcoming commodities >>>>>> splashing big bucks on big names.

      @@jjr2574 You have to pay for top quality sometime if you wish to compete. I've would sign a few star players every window. That's what Conte told us to do and he's a fcking winner. He's won four Serie A titles along with one Premiership. And the year he won with Chelsea is the year we lost to them in 2nd place. The reason we lost was because of our lack of quality on the bench. We scored more goals than them and still lost the league by about 8 or 9 points.
      Here are the players I'd sign. ~The next Undogie but on the opposite side 21 year old RB Leipzig right wing back Mohamad Simakan. I'd sign Ederson of Atalanta as our DM. Raphinha and young Rooney Bargji as our new wingers. I'd sign Tapsoba who can play all across the backline. And finally, I'd sign Toney as our new striker with Richarlison as our backup. What do you think.
