Hello Cryptonites! Something a bit different perhaps. A study of all-consuming artistic obsession and its terrifying consequences. A wonderfully vivid piece of writing too from an author I only recently discovered. A very good collection titled "The Outcast and The Rite" exists. Patreons/Channel Members: there *will* be a Postmortem episode for this, but it'll be a few days or more. Thanks to everyone who listens. CONTENT ADVICE: 🎼Music 📢Noises 🐔Animals in peril
Being completely honest, but I have no interest in finishing Todd. It got lousy views, the episodes took too long to do, and I have very little time to do this as it is. So in my mind it's cancelled due to bad ratings.
I loved how this was written, I love an internal dialogue, I think that's why I go back to Mrs Dalloway on an annual basis, I love Faulkner for the same reason, with his writing it's like being lost in someone else's fog.
Great story and narration! Excellent music, sounds, and background noise! This is an interesting tale. I listened to it three times this morning. Excellent! Is he talking to the land...or something else...? I love stories like this that make us think!
Thank you for introducing me to this author; quite superb! She turns psychological slow-burn around her little finger and laughs as she spins it, adeptly. With your voice talent and effects, it’s a masterpiece.
I really enjoyed this author’s poetic descriptions. I get the feeling that she herself loved to haunt lonely marshes and how the varying moods of weather could change the whole feel of it. To see life and magic in a landscape that might be dismissed for not being typically picturesque. You do her style great justice. Beautifully told and the effects were spot on as always! Thank you Jasper! …..I also want to add that I feel the quality of everything you’ve created has been absolute perfection !!! 🐙
I thought this story electrifying, and truly skillful. I knew, knew and knew again what the end was going to be. Although it is not in the story, he will be visiting the shingle again.... Fabulous, Jasper... Now l look her up to read more. I wondered in the beginning if she herself was both writer and painter because she so utterly seemed to glide into the mind of an artist. Wow.
Thanks Rebecca! Do you know, as I was reading it (the first time, to myself) I recalled your brilliant story "What Comes" and I felt sure you would like this story. So glad you did.
Thank You *Jasper* my mind is wondering b/c I had to get my 16 year old cat to the vet & my usual vet couldn't fit her in today; & I did not want to wait til tomorrow b/c of her age. She was sneezing, stuffed up nose & it's raining & foggy & not been a good day. Vet gave her antibiotics & steroid injections so, I hope for a better day tomorrow & maybe my mind will be more settled. My cats are family members ... they just are. I do appreciate this story you have gifted us with💝
Other people have done a better job than me of describing this writing. Combined with your narration, it’s spell-binding. Just bought her book of short stories. Just the kind of immersive reading I need for my flight to Australia! Thank you so much for introducing her to us.
10:10 "the walls stood firm" took me to "...it had stood so for 80 years and might stand for 80 more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut..." territory. What a lovely dream
Amazing story. Amazing writer. Amazing reading. Everything comes together....just like the water and the land marrying, melding into the light. And wind. Thank you so much Jasper for bringing to life this author who knows what it is to be completely IN nature, share its consciousness, its rythms. Never read/heard writing like this. It validates glimpses and flashes of feeling, perception I've always had, without giving them their due place. Different parts/aspects of nature as conscious divinity. To be received, experienced, addressed, worked with, navigated, worshipped. I like the comparison that another poster made to a Turner painting. The whole story, the whole world it describes is like Turner's work. Wow
Thank you Rheinhart. You've perfectly captured my thoughts when I was reading the story. I was bowled over by the description and, yes, the author's painterly way with words.
Haha! I did aim to put people through the mill with this one. When I first read it (to myself) I felt the isolation of the marsh, but also the claustrophobia and suffocating quiet of the cottage.
@@EnCryptedHorror It's funny; you don't hate him for what he did. There's an OMG, but I understand. He, on the other hand, will have to get used to painting without sharp objects.
A story like a Turner painting, all mood and impending doom. Brought skilfully to life for us by you Jasper. Thank you. A clever author to be sure as she had me loathing the protagonist in very little time. She has such a grasp of the flawed dynamics of some relationships. I found myself wanting so much, his demise but seeing clearly the light of the oncoming train. If he were my protagonist, I would have had the daft, mad, git drown himself!
Ooooooh he was not a good husband at all was he? The story was crafted perfectly and your narration along with the sound effects gave me goosebumps. Thank you Jasper ❤

This sounds very compelling and right up my street. I'm going to have an early night and listen later, but I'm sure it's going to be superb, as are all your narrations and much as I love all the classic authors, I'm always happy to hear a new, or lesser known one ❤
I'm sorry but I'm going to dare to say it, I hated this story. It seemed to go on and on and really go nowhere and I still didn't know what was going on at the end! Perhaps it's me. I do love you and your narration though Jasper
@michaelbell2035 Again, it would be impossible with something as subjective as writing. If I was able to please everyone each time I might be better off working in publishing. I can only go where my own interest in reading takes me. Hopefully the next story will work for you, when it comes along.
@@EnCryptedHorror fully understand and accept that old bean. Didn't want him to think he was alone is all. Lookn forward to the next already.... And the postmortem.
