Your efforts behind this competitive series is appreciated. So thank you for that. Your take an this Cabasse speaker ( which I assume is an entry level to their speaker line ) makes me wonder what moving up the chain of their offerings gives you. Looking forward to your final take.
Even though we haven't heard the Warfdales yet I feel that these Cabasse's are for me the speakers that might be their closest competitors yet for me, judging by what you have said Terry. This is a well executed test and thanks so much for all your hard work putting it all together.
Hello Terry, great job as usual. I think you now need a vacation after the series finale! At the outset of the Mega Test announcement, it was these Cabasse speakers which had me tuning in just waiting and waiting for your take on these as I found that three way design most visually compelling. So of course these just had to be last :) Thanks for the thorough review and insights on the Cabasse.
I have the cabasse Antigua Mc170 + the Socoa Mc170 with subwoofer svs PB3000. The cabasse rock.the tweeter and treble owesome. Really good speaker value for money.
Heard them today. Out of 11 bookshelf speakers and then the same model (11) as floor standing, these were definitely the ones that jumped out at me. That's how I ended up being here. This and the Dali Oberon 7 stood out with the Dali being a little cleaner and dialled down but not boring. I have no idea though. Today is the first time I have been to a shop and listened to several pairs. If you're like me and have no clue. Then just go to a shop and listen.
Very interesting! @2:09 I love hi end audio design. I think you saved the best till last.. I thought last week's speakers were hot and the week before that where hot too but these babies. Looking forward to your sound demo and your conclusion next week, awesome job. My favorites 1,English (made in China).. 1,Scottish. Two French.
Well done quite a lot experience with tweeters and I would say they probably put a metal film on the inside of the diaphragm half a centimetre disc, and dampening material and shape on the inside has a bearing as well
The timing issue you mention came to mind when I saw the high end design here. Most manufactures that make coaxial drivers (Elac, KEF, etc) place the tweeter on the dustcap/voicecoil of the mid driver to ensure proper timing in that design. These look like they would have timing issues.
Very good review...i am adding this after having seen ( and eagerly appreciated) all your previous reviews... but still there is a missing piece to these comparisons. Meaning ELAC in the meantime has just release their Uni-Fi 2.0 the UB52..a three way speaker loudspeaker also in the price range you are reviewing: Might as well be possible you will add those in the group? Really think that would make your project even more exhaustive. As it is you are a great guy, old chap. Greetings from italy
I did contact elac they didn't get back to me. This is the end of the group test otherwise it would go on forever. I dont think anyone else has done something this big before and once I put out the conclusion video you can see where all the speakers sits and the elac will only slot themselves in between one or other of the speakers in this test as none of them are perfect and you have to choose what fits you best
Hola. Antes que nada, muchas gracias por este review tan interesante y dedicado. Estoy en la búsqueda de un bookshelf que brille por sus medios y agudos, y parece que esta es la opción más acertada dentro de los oradores propuestos. Saludos desde Argentina!!
Excellent detailed test.I like deep/strong bass and warm/sweet mids and highs.I also own wrfs diamond 225s with yamaha a-s701.Looking for speakers for a second set up.Don't like the treble to be on your face. Is the yamaha a-s 701 a warm sounding amplifier to pairing with the mc 170? If not up to 800 euros you could suggest 2 warm / soft amplifiers.
The irony is that this is the most bottom of the range from the cabasse range. I've got the Cabasse MC40 Minorca book shelves and am very impressed. I've paird these with a pair of 8" sub woofers to close out the bottom end range as I find this aspect just a tad lacking in my system.
Superb review ! Thank you. I was planning to get the Elac unifi ub52 to drive them with Audiolab 6000a but I had concerns about sensitivity. These Cabasse are quoted 88db ; what amp power to you recommend ?
Sadly that wont happen for this group test the new 606 anniv I think will sound more refined which is only of benefit to what is already a great sounding speaker
Pursuit Perfect System could you not occasionally buy speakers on Amazon if your a prime member, review them and then send them back? Bit naughty but at the end of the day they may get more sales lol
Grills look really good, I would leave on. Usually I like grills off on speakers but they look cool. I don't mind how they look without them but grills add something to these. Excellent review production again. You have left 'no stone unturned'. Thank you.
Hi Terry! Short question. There are Cabasse Antigua MT32 and MC170. Do you know the difference? MT32 maybe newer, better,? Cabasse hompage isen't helpful.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Thanks Terry. Cause there are also MT32 (cheaper) called Cabasse Antigua. Maybe an older version. I keep on trying my new Klipsch RP-160M for about 220 GBP from france. 😁✌️
Hi Terry,, thank you for the video. Imo, just by listening/comparing specs from the 9 test speakers top honors is between: The Cabasse, Klipsch or the Bowers & Wilkins.

I noticed that the Cabasse is not bi-wirable. Since I've already invested in bi-wiring cables (Anticables 2.1) for my current speakers, that would be a knock against the Cabasse for me personally. It would involve investing in new cables and thus add to the expense.
