    I purchased a 2008 Roadster over two years ago and I love driving the car. It has been very reliable and draws a lot of attention at car shows. I enjoy taking it on local Aston Martin Owners Club rides which is probably one of the things I enjoy most about owning the car. My wife and I have met so many nice people during club events.

    Love the video! I bought mine a couple of years ago, sat in my man cave right now staring at it as I watch the video. For me, the design is the stand out feature. There are no bad angles on the car, every way you look at it it’s beautiful. Anyone who is on the fence about these, don’t be. Buy one. You won’t regret it.
    Sometimes the window drop doesn’t work, other times the door handle can be a bitch but at the end of the day, it’s an Aston Martin. It’s got character, you can feel what the car likes, what it doesn’t. The raw engineering behind the engine really puts you in touch with your primal side. Once you pass 6k revs and the exhaust truly screams, the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
    Amazing car. Great review.

      Same, had mine 2 years this month, I just stare at it in my driveway, silver is the only colour for me, just don’t see an Aston in any other colour, mine is the 4.3 and I’m happy with that, think I’ve done 10 miles in it in 2 years, the trouble is I just dint go anywhere, it’s covered only 52,000 miles, just had it serviced end of last year with HWM Walton, keep thinking I should sell it let someone else enjoy it, but I know I may regret it afterwards, so for now I will keep it for a while longer, sound is awesome on all the V8 Austin’s regrades of size of the engine !

    I own a 2017 S version of this and having lived with it for over 2 years, I agree with most of things being said in the video. However, I wouldn't recommend using this car as a daily driver - Yes, you CAN use it on a daily basis and it CAN do commuting and weekend shopping runs reasonbly well but I wouldn't recommend it. It is a slightly quirky car and you need to put up with some of its "features" - It's ok if it's just a weekend thrill seeker but on a daily basis, it can frustrate people sometimes. For example, the manual transmission in this thing is really engaging and mechanical (which is good) but the clutch is quite heavy and the gearbox takes a while to warm up to the working temperature (the fact that it's mounted at the back with the differential doesn't help), before which the gear-change is not very smooth (sometimes it requires double-clutch technique when pushing into 2nd). Also, due to a weird throttle mapping, it has a tendency to stall when getting off the line. Even for an experienced driver (which I consider myself to be), it can catch you out occasionally. That's before we move on to the real Achille's heel of this car - its reverse gear - for some reason the gear ratio of the reverse was designed in a very strange way - it's equivalent to 2nd gear, which means that when reversing, it's very easy to stall (or over-burn your clutch). And it's almosy impossible to back up on a hill. So you really need to keep this in mind when you try to find a parking space because you might get stuck. Again, this is OK if you only use the car for fun every other weekend but it can be a pain if you need to deal with it everyday. To summrise, I love this car to bits, including all its faults, which only add to the character. But I'd only use it as a weekend car. If you want a sports car that can be used as a daily driver with equal competence, 911 carrera S or 4S is still the best bet in my opinion.

    • @fuelupclassic
      @fuelupclassic  Год назад +1

      Hi David, speaking with quite a few long term owners of these and there isn't too much big to worry about, as long as you keep on top of maintenance. Running costs are high though and as a general rule about £2-3,000 per year should keep on top of general servicing etc but always keep a slush fund to cover anything unexpected that may go wrong. I've not had too much experience with an Evora but I would imagine running costs are similar. As a hand built, low volume car there's always potential for niggles to crop up and that will cost money each time to put right. Whichever you decide, I would recommend seeking out an independent specialist to look after the car and buying the very best you can afford with impeccable service history, and ideally with a cast-iron warranty for 6-12 months. You can sometimes do a little 'man maths' in justifying these kind of cars, as depreciation is almost none-existent, which can help offset the higher running costs. Let us know which one you decide on, as it's always great to hear peoples personal experiences with long-term ownership.

    Very good video! 2 1/2 years ago, after 4 Porsches, I bought a V8 Vantage 4.3 l from 2007 because I think it's one of the most beautiful cars ever built. I'm satisfied but not euphoric. Its most outstanding strengths are its design and its exclusivity. An Aston Martin is not on every corner. And yes, it's a great feeling for a while when you can say to yourself: Wow, I really do have an A.M.! The driving characteristics and the sound are very good. For me, it's a fast Gran Tourismo with sufficient remaining comfort, albeit a poor overview. The processing quality is good, but the most frequently mentioned defects are real: the telescopic dampers on the doors and hood wear out quickly and the electronics are prone to failure, especially in the door locks and the exhaust system sensor. The running costs for maintenance, insurance and repairs are really high, even if you don't go to A.M.. So you really have to ask yourself if the design and exclusivity is really worth it. In my experience, a Porsche, e.g. a 996/997 or even a Boxster S 986/987, is the better car in the sum of its properties. It doesn't drive or sound any worse, it offers better quality and it's significantly cheaper. It just doesn't look that good and it's not that rare. But if that doesn't really matter to you, you're guaranteed to be happier in the long run with a Porsche.

      Prices for really good examples have started to increase over the last few years, and even high mileage early examples have remained strong, so there's certainly potential for values to increase. However, I would always advise against buying any classic car (especially V8 Aston Martins) for the sole purpose of hopefully making money in the future, as the market can change very quickly. At present they offer exceptional value for money and I would simply enjoy it now and not worry too much about future values.

    Wouldn’t it be more sensible to get an f type for the same money? Newer, less issues better tech

    • @fuelupclassic
      @fuelupclassic  Год назад +1

      Possibly! The F type is a great car and represents great value for money and still looks great. We will get one on the channel soon and give it a thorough review. However, it's worth considering that depreciation is almost non-existent on the Aston, in fact really good ones are starting to climb in value, which can't really be said for the Jaguar. Speaking with long term owners of F types reliability isn't always fantastic but that goes with the territory. The tech in early F types is also now very dated and as glorious as the that V8 is, it's never been available with a manual gearbox (only a handful of V6 versions were available as a manual), so although they may appear similar on paper, they are really quite different. Although, both represent an awful lot of car for the money.

      Agreed with Matt's reply, I have had an F-Type V6 coupe (leaking diff, then failed diff at £6,000 out of warranty, failed fuel injector, failed O2 sensor, failed sat-nav aerial) followed by a V8 convertible AWD with the 550bhp engine and that had a failed e-diff in warranty and a failed seal on the roof that leaked. Both had heavy depreciation, and the local dealer was arrogant and useless all at the same time.

    Great video, Matt! From that era it would be a close run battle between the Jaguar XK/XKR and the Vantage as far as classy V8s go, though you might argue the XKR was up against the DB9/DBS as more of a grand tourer. However, having also driven an F-Type R against a 2015 Vantage, the F-Type was quicker, more responsive and more agile, but the Aston had it trumped in terms of feeling special. I still bought the F-TypeR AWD but it proved more troublesome and in terms of depreciation the Jaguar is a money pit whereas the Aston will hold its value better so for similar money the Aston is not as expensive as you might think, bar the running costs and the clutch change every 15,000miles. Oh, and Aston's extended warranty isn't cheap for older cars, around £5k for two years but worth having. As to the new 2018 Vantage, it does not even begin to compete on looks with this Vantage.

Weird Volvo switchgear (nav screen/key). Embarrassing "beauty power soul" display when the car fires up.
