The Metro is dying from the Monorail. They go basically the same places but the Monorail goes further. Also, if you turn you cargo terminal around, you can straighten the RR tracks.
question! I keep getting notifications saying "not enough educated workers", but i have high level workers in most places. the only thing i see is jobs have unfilled unskilled or normal skilled workers. how can i fill low skilled workers job when all employees are skilled workers?
This episode made me accept my true level of nerdiness, when I found myself staring into space and smiling warmly for five minutes because of how cool I thought the Monorrail-Buss hub was, with all those bays, just tying all those route on one transfer point . ,, mmmnnn
That first person POV of the monorail really makes the city come alive. We spend so much time zoomed out and when you get up close and personal it's a living breathing city with all the sims going about their 'day'. Perspective is key!
I admit I was kind of surprised you didn't build a metro/monorail/train hub for that last monorail station since the passenger train station was right near there. It would have been a fantastic way for people coming into the city via train to quickly hit the main tourist attractions at the far end of the city. It would have all gone in an area that was already noisy, too, preserving more quiet space for the new development. I could also see a blimp route heading for the nature reserve being a thing. Imagine getting to see all the hiking trails and camping spots from high above before experiencing them on the ground, and then getting to look down at them and retrace your steps when you leave.
The game is okay with really sharp turn for monorail. Real monorails aren't. They resemble conventional trains in that they require turn radii in the 400' range. It's a matter of car length, not just speed (also similar to conventional trains). Switches on both sides of every station is also unlikely. Monorail switches are expensive so they are used sparingly. That's not on you, it's an issue I have with the game. The "ties" on the beam are another. Unlike the thin, necessarily flexible rails for conventional trains, monorail beam has limited flexibility and has no need of ties to maintain parallel separation. Finally, the noise levels asserted for monorails isn't realistic. They run on concrete beams with rubber tires. They are electric. The noise levels should be somewhere between busses (smaller) and metro (steel on steel).
Very true! I'll be frank - realistic monorails are very challenging without mods. They end up lumpy, bumpy and have harsh junctions. With mods... oh man!
Amazing! I don't even remember why your channel was recommended to me because prior to finding your channel I had never even heard of Cities, but I was so fascinated by your videos that I picked up the game in October and this series has been so helpful to me as I learn how to play. By following some of your guidelines I finally have a city that I'm pretty happy with. It certainly isn't perfect, but I'm getting better every time I play! For future video recommendations, I would really love to see you fix a few cities from viewers who are just starting out. I think you may have missed an opportunity with the freight train terminal during the rebuild. You could move it to the other side of the road and allow the rail to come straight into the terminal now instead of the little jog. This may have also allowed for one more warehouse. Otherwise a Ferry good episode.
This has been your best episode lately. At such a length that I felt like I was watching a TV show and not another RUclips channel! Lots of action in one episode! Interesting parts that we built together with you, and repetitive parts that you shortened with the magic of RUclips ;) I really enjoyed it! Thanks (:
Yay, this is the series that got me into your channel. Wholesome, easygoing and not too worried about mistakes. Idk if anyone ever told you you have a great laugh.
Maybe you could lean into the interesting shape of the new town and base it off of European star fort cities, like Palmanova, Italy, or Hamina, Finland for a more overgrown modern look. It's halfway there already, and such a spot on the tip of a peninsula would even suit the lore :D
Maybe it would be a good idea to do a Vanilla Airport for those in the future who don't have the Airport DLC and then upgrade it when the DLC comes out.
THIS. I'm going to wait and see what's in the Airport DLC but in the meantime it would be helpful to see what kind of airport can be constructed with the vanilla assets.
Can you please make the inside of the circle a public park. it would make ton of sense and could be the showpiece of the new part of the city. As always. love the videos and can't wait for the next one!
I have dabbled briefly in this game when it came out - but got the itch to play again and found your videos. I’m the kind of person who expects myself to make perfection and defeatist when I inevitably don’t in these kind of games but having watched these videos - you really are the Bob Ross of cities skylines. I have never felt so chill to just get stuck in, mulligan the hell out of the place and see what works. I started copying the first video in this playlist but I’m really gonna branch off and make it my own with the lessons you’re giving. Thank you for the content - you make such a difference :)
Best Episode you've done out of any build in a long time!! Loved it, so much planning gone into the video editing, brilliant stuff Phil.. Longer episodes are great when its packed full of entertaining builds.. Tutoria now my second favourite city after Verde .. Cleerwater 3rd and Bluffside 4th
Been dying to play this game. Your vids have proven to be not only entertaining, but also VERY informative. Explaining why you are doing what you're doing and all the details involved, really has me thinking that I can actually do this! THANK YOU!
The buildings lighting up red in Noise mode are the ones making the noise. Also, having the cable cars face the right way can help avoid the cable lines bending around. Edit: Can you clean up the districts once so everything becomes organised?
I really loved what you did this episode, watching your videos is so relaxing and helps keep me sane over college finals. One small thing I would have loved to see though was for the community built around that ring shaped ruin was make the innermost road ring a park network rather than a road since that seems more appropriate for the design of the neighborhood and would have been rly aesthetically pleasing for people living there. Overall though fantastic stuff!
This series has really made me think about how my city is laid out. Before I was just trying to expand it quickly as possible but now I started takeing my time makeing calculated decisions and making things look nice. It's made me enjoy the game so much more. I have also relized that I really need the DLC so next steam sale those are being added.
I love the public transit, it’s fun to watch huge groups of people pour out of a metro and go about their lives, it’s just a lot of work managing the lines. I definitely clogged up my monorail and had to cut back and rethink things,
@36:36, the red buildings are *generating* noise. Your residential buildings will appear white. I don't believe those two buildings are actually impacted by the monorail at that point, I think instead you have sick residents because they're right next door to high-density commercial.
@@repliedfob4165 IME low density commercial usually doesn't create enough noise by itself to cause problems: I believe it will lower the land value and attractiveness of adjacent residential, but you shouldn't get many sick people--if you do, you probably have another noise source nearby that's stacking. And yes, an office buffer is probably ideal. Also, the reality is that mixed use is hard, and presents these exact sorts of challenges. Sometimes the optimal solution for your city is that some people get sound sickness.
This series is so useful to learn little tricks. You might want to check that your whole city is connected to one electricity grid as I think you lost some connections when putting in the monorail and moving the incinerators
Okay, here's a thought...what if you made "the circle" a park and charged admission? Or make it a free park? Seems like it's clearly a destination, so it feels like it should have the recognition of a park (monument). As always, awesome video!
Bought the game on Black Friday, and going to start my first build after I catch up on all these videos (on #4 now). Taking notes as I go to help remember, and hopefully I won't have a city that falls apart.
@@jurajklacan6048 I'm certain it's going to go pear shaped in a hurry, but it'll get better. The notes from these videos will just help me prolong the inevitable.
Loving this series! I don't have a machine powerful enough to run Cities Skylines but love watching the gameplay. The aerial shot at the end - the city looks like a doggo chasing a ball 😂
First of all thanks for the really entertaining series! Been binge-watching the playlist for the past few days. Those highway intersections you made seem to be rather inefficient, with the four way crossings. But I guess they look nice, and work well enough thanks to all the mass transit you also have. I don't know if the engineer in me would be able to live with the inefficiency though. :P
This series is amazing! I’ve been playing for a while now and I’m still learning from this. There are certain modes of public transit I’ve never touched because I thought they were redundant or a waste time but after seeing how you utilize them, I’ve gotten some pretty good ideas for my own builds. Quality content!
This is where i learned not to be afraid of monorails. They are not so complex. I had not tried them before this video. Now i feel liked a bus and monorail placed near a metro actually gives one heck of a service area. So far in my play experience it feela like metro is possibly the most favored transit by both sims and myself. It packs a nice passenger capacity. Decent vehicle speed and a nice wide coverage. This can reach to nice busy points of interest or be the start point of a new point of interest. I am now playing my second mass tranait scenario and forcing myself to really learn how to deal with high density traffic.
I just want to say a big thank you for this series and also Verde Beach. Today I started a new city with vanilla, and after my first few hours I was over 5k population and had a 4-star lumber industry producing an average of 8k income per week. Your industry tutorial in particular was incredibly helpful, as I never understood the flow chart and how it was telling me that I had too much raw material being exported and that I needed to build more processing facilities to fix that. Before I knew it I had 200,000 in the bank, something that has NEVER happened in all the previous times I've played the game. I'd be solvent, but building up was always a patience game. Now for the first time, I'm able to expand and build new services out without worrying about suddenly going bankrupt. Oh, and all of my pipes are under the roads. Where they belong. 😉
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you so much for these tutorials. The information was easy to understand, and it was entertaining. The hardest part for me is transit and all that mess. I just passed the 50.000 population mark for the first time with an 85% traffic flow, because now i understand what to do. The game is amazing, but the traffic part is not easy to learn. Thanks for the videos!!
I get so much satisfaction from the final city tour sequence complete with the top down perspective "zoom out" showing the full city layout. I think if at that very final moment if you included a quick slide sequence showing the growth of the city episode to episode would really knock it out of the park. I love seeing time lapses of city growth, so seeing it included into the end of the video would be amazing.
I think you should call the new town "Monument Point", since it's obviously a monument, and it's on a peninsular point. It reminds me of old fort towns. Really a cool setting, glad you made good use of it. I am loving this series so much!
One thing i noticed when you redid the power putting in the solar plants, the cargo hub that is right there has allot of sharp angling of track and could look cleaner if you put it off the new road you put down for the power plants. Always fun to see you build. 👍
The new office complex between the commuter train station and the freeway is a cul-de-sac. There should be room under the Main Street bridge to connect it to the solar power plan area, provided you move the warehouse.
The monorail blocking the view of the water by the parks. You can still hear their land value dropping at this very moment. Plus when he said he wasn't gonna fix the train clipping the monorail "I didn't believe him!"
Love the series. Great inspiration! One question though.. What mod (in your unmodded game 😅) are you using to hide ground pollution? My industries doesn't look that green. But I would love them to.. 👌
Clearly you are the professional, and this series has been a wild ride. But my first instinct was to make the Henge into a touristy thing. I wasn’t even aware that this game made random wonders like that.
Love the game and the crtical thinking involved in it. The Fire in the elder care building had me reacting a little i have to admit. I been a firefighter for 4 years now, and even though i know it's a game i still wanted to see you look at it in my head and make sure maybe you had a Fire Department at least responding in the game. lol
Yea, I definitely wanna move to Mill Heights. The circular pattern is reminiscent of Disney’s original Epcot plans. Let’s get some hotels and piers out there by the beach.
It would be cool in a future release of the game if roads with medians were able to support assets/networks in the center of roads and on sidewalks. So you could place lights, turn lanes, benches, fences, crosswalks, trees, or... monorail tracks.
Was wondering if you ever going to move the sewage pipes dumping into the bay push them off to far end of the beach, maybe turn that Bay into fishing..
Brooooo....brooooo. Look have been looking yours and other videos about city skylines and playing the game also for about a year or so and let me tell you that....that connection that you made in the video at 46:16, was just NASTY AF!
Love the work and improvements to the city. As for the name of the town / village "Ferry Point Circle" - it reminds me of a few places in Rhode Island where I am from like - Newport - Watch Hill. Could even see a lighthouse park near the beach if you wanted to improve tourism.
Reminds me of Bald Head Island here in North Carolina. The only way onto the island is by ferry, and the only motorized vehicles they allow on the island are golf carts.
Love the Tratoria series. I am riding right along with you and have reached 40k. I watched a few ahead for a preview and was impressed with the Monorail Ride. You mentioned a mod needed for PC. It would be nice when you do that to identify the mod. I only had about 3-400 hours in and enjoy it. I was a Simmer ever since it was released on the Apple 2c with RCI blocks surrounded by dashes and underscores but probably won't go back now.
@38:50 saddest moment in the video cause I really liked that diagonal bridge. BUT it doesn't compare to the sadness of that one ferry passenger hopping overboard lol 😂
*obligatory Yay it was an other episode! Huzzah!* May want to check the queues on your centralized bus/monorail node - looks like you had lots of folks queuing for the bus. Also, one of the monorail stations looked to be near capacity.
PLEASE REPLACE WITH A THROUGH STATION IN NEW OFFICE DEVELOPMENT. like fr that small "off road monorail" segment is perfect for a station, the exact distance
Bro your videos have helped me so much! I'm ignorant when it comes to city builders lol 😆 I'm almost always in the negative budget lol but I'm getting better
If you put some of those water garbage disposal things near the outtake of your water polluting sewage things, you can clean up the bay so your ferry riders are not passing through sewage water. :x
This was really an enjoyable build. The 'uglies' as you call them don't really bother so much. They're all over the place in Pittsburgh, so I'm used to them.

Take a shot every time he says the following:
eminent domain
mulligan
respect the terrain
Most utilized ferry I've seen in Cities. Well done!
Thank you for this!

Don't play, EVERYONE knew you were going to fix it. 😂
I think you should call the new town "Monument Point", since it's obviously a monument, and it's on a peninsular point. It reminds me of old fort towns. Really a cool setting, glad you made good use of it. I am loving this series so much!
Very, very nice. Muy favorite 84 minutes of this week. :-)
One thing i noticed when you redid the power putting in the solar plants, the cargo hub that is right there has allot of sharp angling of track and could look cleaner if you put it off the new road you put down for the power plants. Always fun to see you build. 👍
Great how you combine Bob Ross with City Skylines ;-)
The new office complex between the commuter train station and the freeway is a cul-de-sac. There should be room under the Main Street bridge to connect it to the solar power plan area, provided you move the warehouse.
I use no curved road tools for trams and cable cars and monorail thinking the option was not available. Oh no all my cities now have this problem
Great series. You are like the Bob Ross of Cities Skylines.
Henge Hill would be a good name, really cool building today!
Clearly you are the professional, and this series has been a wild ride. But my first instinct was to make the Henge into a touristy thing. I wasn’t even aware that this game made random wonders like that.
I have binge watched this whole series. I haven’t done that since i binged The Royal Institute lectures during lockdown. Lolol
random thought: move the water treatment plants to the other side of the peninsula and have a small fishing industry inside the bay
Love the game and the crtical thinking involved in it. The Fire in the elder care building had me reacting a little i have to admit. I been a firefighter for 4 years now, and even though i know it's a game i still wanted to see you look at it in my head and make sure maybe you had a Fire Department at least responding in the game. lol
Great stuff. Still learning new things every time I watch you play :D
Yea, I definitely wanna move to Mill Heights. The circular pattern is reminiscent of Disney’s original Epcot plans. Let’s get some hotels and piers out there by the beach.
Really, this series is perfect to watch.... I'm choosing to watch it over Westworld, lol... Ty for all the free information.
I really like the editing in the intro.
I'd love to see this series more often.
I am wondering. Why don't you just pass the trainlines underneath (with a tunnel) the roads and monorail. Why make so high bridge. This is insane.
Why is he ignoring the fact that the hole damn sea is full of Sewage? Its clearly darker, why is he making ferry's in that stuff?
Brooooo....brooooo. Look have been looking yours and other videos about city skylines and playing the game also for about a year or so and let me tell you that....that connection that you made in the video at 46:16, was just NASTY AF!
Now your residents can take a nice ferry ride over Poowater Bay. How Lovely. 😂
Love the work and improvements to the city. As for the name of the town / village "Ferry Point Circle" - it reminds me of a few places in Rhode Island where I am from like - Newport - Watch Hill. Could even see a lighthouse park near the beach if you wanted to improve tourism.
i love how at the ending fly-by, Tutoria at this point looks kind of like a reindeer
This game and Snowrunner are two games I can always sit and play for way longer than I feel I should
@38:50 saddest moment in the video cause I really liked that diagonal bridge. BUT it doesn't compare to the sadness of that one ferry passenger hopping overboard lol 😂
In the "big circe" district, you could make some entertainment district with cool stuff, night life and beach parties every night!
I knew you weren’t gonna leave that bridge alone lol
*obligatory Yay it was an other episode! Huzzah!*
May want to check the queues on your centralized bus/monorail node - looks like you had lots of folks queuing for the bus. Also, one of the monorail stations looked to be near capacity.
Ah! The famous romantic ferry rides through the waste water of Tutoria!
The Bob Ross of city skylines. Though idk if he mulliganed as much as you do!
PLEASE REPLACE WITH A THROUGH STATION IN NEW OFFICE DEVELOPMENT. like fr that small "off road monorail" segment is perfect for a station, the exact distance
at this time btw @18:37
Bro your videos have helped me so much! I'm ignorant when it comes to city builders lol 😆 I'm almost always in the negative budget lol but I'm getting better
If you put some of those water garbage disposal things near the outtake of your water polluting sewage things, you can clean up the bay so your ferry riders are not passing through sewage water. :x
"The joys of building on a slope" isn't quite as catchy as Bob Ross' "The Joy Of Paining"
This has me psyched for the new airport DLC for some reason
This was really an enjoyable build. The 'uglies' as you call them don't really bother so much.
They're all over the place in Pittsburgh, so I'm used to them.
"so sometimes you getta play with the game". Wow, that's some deep philosophy 🤣
Great episode - shout out to Lee Hawkins! :D
Absolutely love this series! Are you going to start adding unique building and monuments??
