    I maintain an apartment complex and purchased a Toro Super Recycler which I used for 6 or 7 years. Never any major issues, just normal bushings, gears, and such for the drive system (it's a good size property my microsoft band says I walk 6-7 miles on mowing days so it racks up the miles!) I sold it for about 25% of what I had paid for it new and purchased another Toro Super Recycler. I really like that mower!

    That powdery lime is hell to put down. I try to use dolomite lime, instead. I use a 5 setting with my Scott's rotary spreader for lime and a 7 with Milo. At 7, I can put a bag on 2,500 sq. Ft.without any left over. Scotts Starter fert I put down at 2 1/2. and 10-10-10 I put down at 5, same as the lime. I lime twice a year - spring and fall and put 200# each application on 1/2 acre. Our soil is very acidic.

  • @kingkt9110
    @kingkt9110 8 лет назад

    Hey LCN, nice video. I think you bought the lime from Home Depot. They are notorious for not having a pelletized lime product. Next time try Lowe's. They have milorganite and they also have multiple pelleted versions of lime for about 4 bucks per 40lb to 50 lb bag... An update of your lawn is next right?

  • @mizzl
    @mizzl 8 лет назад +4

    I was looking at that mower. Decided to go with the Honda HRX series with blade stop. I've had that feature on past mowers and won't buy a mower without it in the future. My problem withToro is they don't offer this feature with a big motor. The Toro only has a 130cc with this feature while the Honda has a 190cc. Also, the Honda has some other great features like clip director which allows you to choose how much to bag. But all this comes at a price. The Honda was much more than the Toro. I don't think you can go wrong with Toro but if you don't mind spending the money I think Honda is the way to go. I love mine!

    • @urusoimi
      @urusoimi 7 лет назад +1

      Well, he claims to be transparent. Something has got to give. Honda USED to be the ultimate,top of the line,cannot get any better mower. Now it has such horrible reliability issues, it is not worth it. Buy a Toro, and stop worrying about useless features you will never use. You can get them both at Home Depot, and I believe Honda has whored themselves out to even Farm and Fleet, Ace Hardware, and Lowes.

  • @ericc4730
    @ericc4730 8 лет назад

    I actually bought that exact same mower 2wks ago... and I love it. I just wish Toro would of made the self propel feature a little easier to use, or even optional. because if I want to push myself I could using both hands...( one hand on the gas which is on the self Propel handle in the other hand on the stationary handle)
    but other than that love it hands down.

Is there an organic crab grass prevent for early spring? My lawn is beautiful up in jersey, been using Ringer and milorgante. • @Thelawncarenut
      @Thelawncarenut  8 лет назад

      yeah I was debating on whether or not to throw down a late fall pre-emergent - that's typically good practice this far south, but being as this lawn is so shady I am betting on the fact that crabgrass isn't an issue. We will tackle weeds in spring as needed of course.

  • @brianperrin1372

    Allyn, should I have any concerns with fertilizing Centipede this late in the year or would I be safe because Milorganite is an Organic fertilizer? I had always heard that the last application of Nitrogen should be in August/September. Due to the warm weather we have been having this season, my lawn is still pretty green. Your thoughts/comments would be appreciated. BTW I'm in Louisiana.

    • @Thelawncarenut

    I am a firm believer in the more lime in Florida...the better. I do not believe because of how sandy our soil is, you cannot overuse lime or milorganite. We live on a sand bar and when you make the soil sweeter....you develop fewer weeds and your fertilizer goes further and lasts longer.

  • @pat5873

    Surprised you opted for messy powdered lime. I know you're a frugal fellow, and the pelletized fast-acting lime I applied today cost ~four times as much as you spent (each 30# bag cost $14.97 @ Home Depot, = $0.50/lb. vs. the $0.12/lb. you paid for your sacks of white dust). But in this case, to avoid breathing exposure and keep the lime where you want it applied, the extra $$$ would have been worth it.

    • @Thelawncarenut
      @Thelawncarenut  8 лет назад +1

      couldn't get pelletaized at the HD here - but later I found it at Lowe's so I'll know for next time

    • @pat5873
      @pat5873 8 лет назад

      That'll work well -- when you piece together your composite video for Toro, you'll be able to compare & contrast powdered lime vs. pelletized lime. It'll look like you used the powdered on purpose to show folks what a pain in the a$$ it is (right?)...

      Toro probably want's some of their content shots for maybe their version of this project. Just to insure their mower has it's best face turned to the camera. If Allyn does it right then great maybe no need, but they still need to make some clips for possible inclusion and they will be the ones to decide what those clips will be, quality control in other words. It's how you get your bang for your buck if you are Toro.
