After dealing with the passing of my mentor in 2002, it's a pleasure to see this refreshing youtube clip with my partner Will Lee on Bass

What a legend Lionel Hampton is. Benny Goodman was one of the first band leaders to integrate black and white musicians in the Big Band Era I believe around 1938 with Lionel Hampton and Teddy Wilson along with Gene Krupa that was on the drums.

Lionel Hampton was SUPER.I was very fortunate to catch him live twice.
Once with his big band at Lincoln Center and another time in Turin, Italy with his nonet with Terry, Sweets, Golson, Grey and the rest.RIP
    Girish

I'm sure they were honored to be playing with this master, but they did look like they were working HARD. Especially Paul. But Lionel Hampton floored me with his ending steps and twirly. Wow. He was pushing 80 if not already there. He was HIGH-SPIRIT for sure. RIP LH.

Bless Lionel Hampton's heart!! How old is he here? Well, however old, he's got the spirit and sets a good example for the youngsters in the band. HalleluYah!

Oh my, I knew Hamp was talented but I had no idea he was a wonderful dancer, too. At 4:51, he breaks into a sweet jig.....

I can't believe there are so many snobs here dissing the band. Give them a break fer Gawds sake. They were trying and did a decent job keeping up with him. It's like you getting put in the cockpit of a Grand Prix racing car after driving your Honda Accord for years. How would you perform?

sad that the band was trying so hard -they should have let LH take the lead. Egos are sure death for sweet music.
