If you’re transcoding in handbrake, then you’re not changing the original file. Transcoding takes a compressed video file and converts it into something else that you choose. That could be a more compressed file or something that the editor is able to read.
So 4:2:2 video works as long as it is h.264 if you upgrade to Studio? Is this what I'm gathering? I am currently having trouble viewing XAVC S at 4:2:2 10-bit, I am wondering if upgrading to studio will remedy this problem. I have an AMD Ryzen 3700x and NVIDIA 2060 Super, I am unsure if 4:2:2 is even possible
This has been so informative and comprehensive. I do have one question though, do I need to tweak some settings in handbrake when transcoding vertically shot video? Thanks
Thanks for supporting the channel! For portrait video, the resolution should automatically adapt. If it doesn’t, you’ll want to swap the resolution numbers. 4K for example in landscape will be 3840x2160 and in portrait orientation will be 2160x3840. Let me know if you have any questions!
Quick question from a video noob, why shoot in HS format if you are going to transcode it into a different format for editing? Wouldn't the S format save you this extra step?
I don’t transcode on the studio version. I use the HS format to get the extra bitrate at smaller size (H.265 vs h.264) even though it technically isn’t needed. I’d definitely shoot XAVC S if my GPU didn’t support H.265 decode/encode though.
Thx for making this. Well presented and straight to the point. 3:45 Do it exactly like John shows or it can go wrong. I did a mistake I did not set Encode profile to High. This results in a error message. This is the error message I get: Queue Finished with 1 errors detected. Check Queue window for details.
thx for this - i found out that when I record on 10bit XAVC S HD this issue exist, when I record in 8bit XAVC S HD i have no problem with importing to Davinci Resolve. Your solution works - thx
THANK YOU SO MUCH BRO, I'VE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH THIS ALL WEEK AND NONE OF THE OTHER VIDEOS ONLINE WORKED FOR ME!! THANKS AGAIN, GOD BLESS YOU!
Of course, no problem! Thanks for your support!
@@johnstech7 Quick question please, what is changed about the original file once it is rendered?

I record all of my videos in H.265 (XAVC HS) but but upgrading to studio resolved it, yes.

@@johnstech7 thanks. For now, I have an m1 iMac and I’ll stick with XAVC S. Much appreciated.

Thank you so much @gangger89
If I don't have the studio version, do I have to decode each video?
Depends on the codec and operating system. You’ll just have to run the free version to test it yourself!
In the end Davinci resolve is not as good as they say, I want to work with the original files, using a video converter is not an option
Resolve Studio is fine. It all comes down to licensing which is outside of Blackmagic’s control.
I test XAVC HS directly from camera, it doesn't work for me, but XAVC S camera does, this is on 18.6. So as long as I use XAVC S or upgrade to Studio.
Yeah, that makes sense as XAVC S is H.264! That should be fine on most systems with a GPU.
@johnstech7 HS is H.265/HEVC. Must be a weird licensing issue. Same thing happens in Catalyst Browse.
I will go for Studio version too. Thank you
No problem! Thanks for the support!
