    I recently bought the simplifier and absolutely love it-so many great tones achievable with it depending on settings and guitar used.
    The only trouble with this video is that, after watching it I now want all the other pedals on your board!

    Finally I found a tone I really like with the simplifier thanks to you!! Copied your settings and I’m very happy with my current sound. Thanks man!!

    Try this settings on the AC and let me know what you think.
    EQ: treble and bass at 10:30-ish o’clock, mids at around 8:30 o’clock. A real AC30 doesn’t have a Mid knob, so I find this to sound much more closer to real thing.
    Volume and Gain: with the EQ set how it is know the overall volume will be much lower, so set the volume at full, and the gain at full or at 3:30 o’clock. This will give more “amp” compression and just a bit of break up. I also have a strat so these settings would still sound clean but with a little bit of grit on top when digging in.
    Tube, Resonance and Presence: Set the tube emulation to EL34, it will give a bit more gain and compression since it will push more mid frequencies. But in a very nice way. The Resonance I find that it works best with the AC at 11 o’clock. This will tighten the response of the cab sim but also change the feel. To me it feels more responsive, it sorta gives more. Presence at 9:30 or 10 o’clock should keep the chime in and any harshness out.
    Cab and Mic: So with the mic position control things don’t really work as it’s advertised. It’s more like a texture control. Depending of were you have it changes the highend and high mids texture of the speaker. I set mine at 3 o’clock or at 2:30 ish. Either with the 4x12 or 2x12. When I use the 4x12 setting I let the resonance control the same as in the 2x12 setting.
    So yeah, give these a try and let me know what you think. I know that everyone has different taste when it comes to tones but I find these to sound closer to a non TB AC30.

      Awesome! I appreciate it! I’ll try it out and let you know. I’ve been trying to join the Gear Talk P&W Facebook page to get more Simplifier ideas but this definitely helps a ton

    • @jedielrodriguez4835
      @jedielrodriguez4835 4 года назад +2

      David Lee sure thing man. Love to help. I’m in the GT P&W page and there’s not many settings being shared there or ideas on how to use it for that matter. I find that people who have this unit approach it like a modeler and not a real amp. The tone stacks change with the amp selected. Each control reacts differently on each amp. So try getting familiar with how the tone stack works on a BF Fender, Vox and a Marshall even though they’re all passive. Also try to get a picture or info on the frequency response of these amp set Flat. This will help you to taylor your own sound no matter which one you use, and get to know the nature of how each control reacts. If you have more questions let me know ok.

    • @dlee5
      @dlee5  4 года назад +2

      Man oh man those settings made a world of a difference! I was using the 4x12 cabs but I think my favorite now is using the 2x12’s. Your comments earlier about approaching this unit as an amp is so true and makes me really appreciate the creativity and work behind this pedal. I was in the same boat treating this like a modeler coming from playing the Kemper, Stomp, Iridium etc. but changing the approach and how to dial in the tones is a game changer. Again I really appreciate your help!

      So happy they worked out with your set up, very glad I could help you with this. I just hope to see more demos or clips of you running your board through the Simplifier. This thing also sounds amazing through a power amp, just use the send(s) on the Simplifier to the Power Amp with your cab of choice and have fun! I also have a cool setting to sound like Frusciante with the Marshall mode and a killer setting made by Stu G at NAMM. Let me know if you want them.

    Great job man!

    • @dlee5
      @dlee5  4 года назад +2

      Thanks man! It’s the Gibson Skylark amp in pedal form but I’m using it more like a low to medium gain overdrive since the AC Brit mode on the Simplifier is still cleanish with my single coil guitars. In terms of signal chain, it is in one of the Send/Returns on the NRG Effects Monochrome pedal. The Monochrome pedal is a 3-in-1 pedal with a mid range boost, overdrive, and volume boost/buffer. The Lark and Benson are in the 2nd Send/Return so they’re between the Overdrive and Volume boost. The Timmy is in the first Send/Return so it sits between the Mid range boost and Overdrive. With the Lark engaged, I’ll either add the Timmy or the mid-range boost for more drive/saturation and with the Benson engaged, I’ll use the overdrive, mid-range boost, and/or Timmy for more drive and different tones.

    • @nedim_guitar
      @nedim_guitar 2 года назад

      I used to have a Simplifer, but I sold it because dirt pedals sounded like shit through it. It could take just a little bit of overdrive, that would sound okay. But push the gain just a little bit harder, and it sounds like DI farts. And it's not even a question about pushing the gain a lot, halfway on my MXR GT-OD was the limit. ProCo Rat, fuzz, they sound like shit through the Simplifier. It's a whole different story putting those pedals through a Boss IR-200, but that's a completely different piece of gear.

    • @thekramer1097
      @thekramer1097 2 года назад +1

      I have it for a little more than a year now. It's great for cleans, low and mid gain stuff, but on high gain lacks mainly because of the analog cab sim. I've been using an IR loader and skiping the cabinet part of the simplifier for a little while (I still use it as a preamp) and now my high gain stuf has got new life. That being said, you wouldn't (and shouldn't) buy or use the simplifier for high gain stuff. It was never its purpose.

    Sounds great! What are your thoughts on this vs the Iridium?

    • @dlee5
      @dlee5  4 года назад +2

      Both are great! Iridium was much quicker to dial in tones but they both sound great. The different cab selections, separate mic placement control, tube selections, and preamp control is a great feature on the Simplifier which made me spend more time dialing in tones. The IR loading feature on the Iridium is a definitely a pro, plus midi or expression capability. The FX Loop, Aux in, Headphone in is a winner for the Simplifier since you can run all your effects and do silent practicing. I know some guys preferred wet effects after the Iridium so they wouldn’t be able to use the headphone jack to hear the full board.

    • @dlee5
      @dlee5  4 года назад +2

      Also, I forgot to mention but the Simplifier provides more routing options. I ran stereo XLR outs and used the right 1/4 inch output with the switch set to Sum to Mono to run into my amp’s return input. I’m going to mess with running Wet/Dry/Wet at some point. I can run stereo XLR out and use the left 1/4 inch output with the switch set to Thru to send just the dry effects to an amp.

    • @dlee5

      Hey man. It’s the Pedaltrain patch panel from BTPA. There’s a solderless jack for the guitar input and then I run a cable from it to the compressor. I also recently installed a powercon connector so my power cable runs to the patch panel and locks in. I’m using the Strymon Zuma and Ojai to power the board as well.
      The panel looks like this. I bought the parts separately so I could custom cut an extra IEC cable I had:

      Have you had any trouble with clipping when the volume and drive is past 12?

    • @dlee5
      @dlee5  4 года назад

      I haven’t had clipping issues but I heard about the FX Loop sounding weird when the volume and gain are high. I’ve been running the EQ pretty low, gain at 12, and volume at 3:00 on the American setting since I’m using the Benson and Lark as preamp pedals. I also have the resonance and presence around 9:00 since I’m using the low/high cut knobs and treble/bass on the drive or preamp pedals.

    • @dlee5
      @dlee5  3 года назад

      In this one I was running DIG, El Cap, Flint, and Revelation in the FX Loop. I set the volume to between 12-12:30 and started dialing in the EQ to at most 9:00 since it adds quite a bit of volume when the EQ gets past 10-11. I recorded this video shortly after getting the Simplifier so the volume and EQ settings are different. The other videos I added later have better tones after making the volume and EQ adjustments above.

    Thanks for the demo! The Simplifier sounds amazing, but does it feel like you're playing into a tube amp? I know that it won't completely feel like it because there's no speaker pushing air, but I'm just curious! Thanks

    • @dlee5
      @dlee5  4 года назад +1

      I think the way controls are designed is like the tube amp. I haven't played through a tube amp in a long time and got used to hearing Iridium, Kemper, Helix/Stomp before using the Simplifier.
      Also I was able to use the Simplifier live recently but only hear the in-ear mix or live stream recording. I would love to hear it through speakers at full volume soon

    • @EstebanOnGuitar
      @EstebanOnGuitar 4 года назад

      @@dlee5 So, in your ears/eyes/playing, it's very comparable to the "high-end" Iridium and Helix stuff? I have a Helix, but am wanting something I can use with my pedalboard. I had an Iridium, but I just didn't really jive with it. It didn't really feel like a tube amp to me.

    • @dlee5
      @dlee5  4 года назад +1

      Yeah. Between the Iridium and Simplifier, Iridium was like a great studio recording of an amp while the Simplifier reacts like an amp. I came from using the Kemper and got used to hearing great studio profiles of amps so I gravitated to the Iridium first. Simplifier took longer to dial in tones since I was treating initially like a modeler. I got some great advice into treating it like an amp and since then I've been really loving the tones that I dialed up.
      I would definitely recommend trying out the Simplifier. I know some that preferred it over the Iridium because of feel while others liked the Iridium because of being able to run a full board stereo into the pedal and can sound amazing with third-party IRs.
      Hope this helps with your decision! I'm planning on adding some more videos with the settings I'm using now that I think sound way better than when I initially was trying out different tones.

    I've had the Simplifier, but I sold it. To me, it sounded like shit when used with distortion or fuzzes. The only setting I found didn't sound like shit was the Brit AC setting with a 1x2 cab with my MXR GT-OD overdrive pedal, with not a lot of gain. Anything that was a bit more gain, slight distrotion or some fuzz just sounded very DI. The fuzz especially sounded like fucking farts, and the fuzz wasn't even cranked a lot. It just doesn't take dirt pedals well. Keep that in mind if you're thinkgin about getting a Simplifier. I say try one out with a couple of your favorite pedals before buying it.

    • @dlee5

      You can use the Send on the Simplifier's Preamp section to send that to the powercab or amp to bypass the cabsim.
      Haven't tried running the Simplifier (with the full board, preamp and cabsims) in front of the amp but I used the Right 1/4 inch output with the switch set to Sum to Mono and plugged that into the Amp's Return Input to use it as a powercab.
      I used the XLR outs as well and really loved the blend with the amp cab volume in the room and the stereo image from using the XLR outs.
      I also messed with using the Left 1/4 inch output with the switch set to Thru so only the dry effects are set to the Amp's front input while using the XLR outs for the full stereo effects.

      I had to increase the levels on the mixer when using the XLR outs while the 1/4 inch outputs seemed to have a higher output level (not by much though). I didn’t have to adjust the volume on the Simplifier though unlike with the Iridium where I maxed out the volume and gain up the mixer levels (before I got the DISO+ DI Box from Pinstripe Pedals which fixed the level issues). Looks good. With the Prism do you want to boost in front of the Morning Glory and Magellan for more drive/saturation or after for a volume boost. I used the Prism for a while and ran in before the compressor using Amp mode. Quite a few options with the placement.

      @@dlee5 So the pedals that are always on is Compressor, Booster and Morning Glory. To answer your Q, I'm using it for a booster to add more drive but I just want to know how to connect to simplifier and connect to get the stereo mode for the timeline and bigsky

      Gotcha. So basically the dry effects will go into the Simplifier input. You could put the Julia in the FX loop If you wanted. Simplifier Send (mono) will go into the Timeline (or Julia if it’s going to be in the FX Loop), stereo out of the Timeline to the BigSky, stereo out of the BigSky back to the Simplifier returns.
