What blessed memories be. The mid-to late 90s till late 2001 was our last true golden age. Everything just felt secure, we took everything for granted. Those who were born after only know of the "new" normal, but these years shown in the video.... When I die, I hope I can relive some of those years. Even just for a little while.
I agree. I was 18 years old in 1998. 2000-2017 were the last good years. 2018 onward, cancelculture had already begun, slowly but sure;y. everything went to hell in 2020.
If you really think about it, NYC in the late 90’s was center of attention back then. Yankees late 90’s run, NBC must see TV shows we’re all set in NYC, all the big early and late nite shows(when people actually watched them) were in NYC, and a lot of the older movies all featured NYC backdrops. It really was NYC all the time it seemed.
Yep. Lived there from `96 to `97. Best time: before 9/11, before Superstorm Sandy, after the crime of the 80s and recession of the late 80s/early 90s, before tax policy made it the second coming of Londongrad, a place where despots and kleptocrats stashed their money in tower apartments; where rent was high but not so high the kitschy cool shops and restaurants could still thrive and prosper, and when the Subways were safe but functional. When Brooklyn was cool but not hipster, when Queens was reasonable, and when Staten Island was downright cheap.
And you're right about the shows: The 80s were LA's decade: the Showtime Lakers, LA Law was the hottest show, the `84 Olympics, da Raiders winning big, Johnny Carson, before Rodney King and the Riots, which gave way to NYPD Blue and Letterman's reign (until Hugh Grant got busted with a hooker).
I was 11 yrs old in 98 life was so much better before camera phones social media and all this violence it's insane the way life's drastically changed I'm 35 now
Just turn off your social media then. I did. The world was actually far more violent in the early 1800's than it is today. Our world is very calm in comparison to older times.
I'm old enough to have at least some vague memories of the original WTC, but young enough that my only real vivid memory of it is 9/11, so whenever I see them in home movies like this, I can't help but tense up a little.
I wasnt born when 9/11 went down but I really wish it never happened because 1. (The obvious reason) so all those people didnt lose their life early but 2. Because the WTC looked like a really cool place to visit. The only good thing that came out of it was the stronger airport and boarder security
There would also be no war. So many more millions of innocent life would be preserved. Including the war troops sent to the middle east. But if you think of it, why the attack would take place in a very highly secured city, fully functioning intelligence agency? I’m not truthers just wondering
Also the 90s was last great decade, golden age of video games, blockbuster (watch documentary on it), no wokeism, America was loved by its citizens, and no smartphones or internet dominance. You missed the boat dude 😎
ur right, tbh the new WTC isnt so great, it looks, oddly small, taller than the empire state building but looks less massive, as where the twin towers looked huge, and actually, the OG 1WTC had more floors than the new 1WTC
