      Well, radicchio has it's specific bitter taste, not everyone likes it 🙂
      But as an addition to salads, it's great!

      @Life in a pot I'm currently growing..
      Sweetie tomatoes, Boston pickling cucumbers, Sugar snap peas, Clemson spineless okra, Brussel sprouts, Big Jim Numex peppers, Sweet California wonder peppers, Rainbow popping corn, Sweet Spanish white onions, Wild Onions, Oakleaf lettuce, Gourmet mix lettuce, Cat grass, Catnip, Peppermint, Lemon mint, Lavender, Cilantro, Lemon balm, Sage, Basil bouquet, & Basil large leaf!
      All the herbs are in stacking pots and won't get too big. The other stuff is in 1.75gal fabric pots! Absolutely loving the experience. I've grown 1 specific thing for 4 years and starting to branch out more.
      They're growing in a 4×4×6 .5ft grow tent under a Mars Hydro FC8000 😅

    Do you discard the outer leaves? Are they not good to eat? (I've never grown radicchio before).

    • @Liap
      @Liap  4 месяца назад +3

      I sort them. Most of them are perfectly edible. But it's the core of the head that is most wanted.

    I have bought some Castelfranco variety seeds of this interesting plant. Will be sowing this week here in South Wales UK. I'm assuming I can copy your methods from this video for this variety?
    Does the plant (after harvesting) go into dormancy and regrow?
    Thanks for excellent informative video and keep up the great work

    • @Liap
      @Liap  Год назад +3

      Hello, I've never grown that variety. I checked it online and none of local sellers even have this variety.
      Though, it seems to be very similar in growing requirements as palla rossa, so yes, you can. Very nice looking plant indeed! I will try to get the seeds for next year somewhere 🤭
      No, the plant won't grow another head after harvesting. It may grow some leaves from stem, if you leave enough of it in the soil, but those leaves will never form a head like the first one.
      Thank You very much!
      A little tip for growing radicchio that i had to learn - if you are going to use fertilizer of any kind, stop using it once the plants start to form heads. It increases the risk of head rot.
      Good luck growing Your beautiful radicchio variety, all the best! 🍀🙂

    I wonder if you could harvest the side leaves and eat while waiting for the head to form? Im gonna try my luck at growing this!

    • @Liap
      @Liap  Год назад

      I wouldn't do that. Same as head lettuce, if You harvest outside leaves, the firm head won't form. You can pick leaf or two here and there, but still plants need those leaves for energy from sun.
      You can treat these plants as cut and come again though. But They won't form nice and firm heads.

      Hello. You can try to grow it in morning sun and afternoon shade. But if the temperatures are too hot, it will probably bolt and go to flower.

      Hello, what's the size of it? These can be grown in smaller containers (15l / 4gal) but bigger containers will hold stable temperature longer. And I was growing these in the middle of autumn and temperatures here can drop to freezing at the time.
