Is the Range Rover still the benchmark full-sized luxury sport utility vehicle?

- The improved fourth generation Range Rover is more efficient, better connected and smarter inside. Jonathan Crouch looks at what's on offer.
So many cars claim to be unique but the Range Rover really is, continuing to set the standard in the super-luxury SUV sector. This improved MK4 model gets the option of petrol/electric Plug-in hybrid power for the very first time and all variants get a redesigned cabin with a more intuitive 'Touch Pro Duo' infotainment system. Otherwise, things are much as before, this aluminium-bodied luxury SUV good enough to properly combine the imperious qualities of a top luxury saloon with off piste abilities that would be limited only by the skills of its driver. A Rolls Royce in the rough, there's nothing quite like it.

Excellent review, I didn't realise my new Range Rover had so many features.
me too
YOU seriously have a range rover or just kidding? How could you afford one?lol
Ben Mackay 😂😂😂😂
my word....what year is your rover and what model? Range Rover? Sport? The Baby Rover. Google: Chinese Land Rover Owners protests over poor quality Rovers, manufactured in China, some if not all manufactured in china falling apart.
@@goldenboyi1989 there not that expensive lol
You were born to be a car reviewer. How can you get so much detail without holding a manual.? It’s just wonderful
Thank you for your kind comment 👍 Glad you enjoyed the review!
MAYBE THE MOST DETAILED DESCRIPTION FOR THE RR!!! WELL DONE!!!
unfortunately he works for the Co....his resale/depreciation numbers come from the hobbit....not reality.....not difficult to find out yourself....
"It's beautifully built, it's gorgeously finished" .. "Makes you proud to be British, doesn't it" ❣️❣️
I’ve seen loads of different reviews, yours was by far the best. Great job,
Thank You.
Thanks Ramon 👍 great to see comments like this
This is the best RR review ever. Particularly the detail density. Thank you for doing this!

@@OsvUkVehicleSupply You're welcome. I would love to see your review of the Range Rover SV 2022.
Extraordinaire reportage. Le plus sérieux, documenté, intelligent qu'il m'ait été donné de voir sur cette voiture . Bravo.
Merci 👍
Bloody hell there's a hole hour of this, wow. I'll get back to this vid thank you for the effort.
and not even one off road test in the whole hour, you can forget it
That rear diff lock you speak of is pretty handy if you go off tarmac too. Doubles up nicely! And it works in high or low range, with, or without, the center differential lock too. Driving a LR from the past 3 or 4 years off road is so easy... its just effortless. In many ways LR have took all the stress out of off tarmac driving.
I’ve never seen such a detailed car review.
I’m thinking of buying one, so this was really useful.
Thank you.
Really you call this detailed? reviewing a supposed off roadable SUV for an hour and not even a light off road test ?
Bought TDV6 Autobiography 3 yrs old and shipped to where I now live New Zealand. Had it 4 yrs love it and being in my 70s glad it does not have the 2018 xtra technical features. My car will last me for more years. Have my XJSC classic V12 for sporty fun. UK road use charges are horrendous these days please dont let NZ government know.
The best, most precise and complete review of the RR.
Very professional
Bravo Bravissimo
Fantastic review and presentation again. Great work. Love the Rangey.
Many thanks for watching, Stephen!
Hells bells you have certainly done your homework. Best review ever. Well done. Peter A.
08:49 "As usual, for those who really want to boost their fuel station nectar points tally..." 😂👌
guys, I assure you it's impossible to really understand the reviews unless you're sitting on a range rover and really feel it. once you feel it in person it becomes and addiction. it offers full control and superior power and comfort. it's just unmatchable and one day soon it's going to be mine.
There is a pull down section of the rear seat allowing load through and it's under the central armrest.
Possibly the modt concise review ever. Thanks.
We're glad you found the review helpful, David. Many thanks for watching 👍
Awesome, but not many charging points in the Serengeti! Surely a reserve tank would be better for the 0.01% doing that kind of thing? Fantastic motor, but I live in the city and wouldn't know where to park it!
Nice to watch a concise review 10/10
Thank you Richard 👍 great to hear feedback
Too bad the long wheel base doesn't come with Diesel....just suicidal to buy the non-diesel version....unless you don't mind constant gas purchases and more frequent trips for mechanical issues...as Diesel also requires less maintenance since peak speed is reached at less than 2K RPM....relieving the stress on engines.
great thorough video of the RR, :)
Still RR is the most sharp and eligant among others
It's a cracking looking vehicle 👍
Mr. Crouch is a superb reviewer. I would watch him review a bottle of ground nutmeg.
😁
Looks great... unfortunately in four years, shit.. three years it isn't worth much more than a boat anchor... I bought an "off lease " rover 3.5 yrs prior it was purchased for 134,000.00. I bought it for 32. Love to do a hidden camera show just watching the owners freak out when they realize you've lost at least 60,000.00 ouch.
Here in the USA, the depreciation on these is about the same or slightly better (lower) than the competition.
If you want a new car, you have little choice. Depreciation is a problem hence they cost double what a 7 series would for example to lease or finance. However, they in general cost a lot even used given their high price to begin with that puts it in Bentley territory
Our boss paid £125,000 for his vogue range rover, traded in for £30,000 in January. Like he says, if you can afford these cars you don't care about depreciation.
I hope to pick up a 2016 model nct year
Nice review, would have been better if you were reviewing the 5,0 version. Regarding models don’t forget the Overfinch
Range Rover is still the benchmark..%99.9 Will never leave the tarmac...excellent video 😎
Many are used for towing boats and horseboxes.
Great detail and well presented. Thank you!
Our pleasure! Many thanks for watching 👍
Great review, really enjoyed the detail, great work!
Thank you Stephen!
Shame they didn’t review the petrol v8 model… that’s the real RR for me.
Thanks for the feedback, Alan! Are you interested in getting the new Range Rover?
@@OsvUkVehicleSupply yes I am looking and switching up some of my cars and this might be a switch with my RS6
The capabilities of this vehicle that are never used by 90% of owners, makes this one of the most over engineered tools I can think of. Why not produce it without any off road functionality, as it’s driving position and looks are the main selling points.
This is the best review of the L405. I have seen if several time now. One quick question what do you think about the 4.4l SDV8? good choice or not?
Great video, well informative and high quality...

Iv a 3.6 the only engine id use in the line up is the 4.4 diesel the 3ltr is to much of a gamble i know 3 people that have had to replace them and the 2ltr in the sport chains and turbos you have to go back to the 05 model l322 withe the m57 bmw unit when they were reliable
Absolutely superb and incredibly comprehensive review - thank you - but ......... why no word on the all-important reliability question?
Perhaps Land Rover don’t want that discussed?
No doubt, they are not a reliable vehicle 👍
Is that correct? I hear everywhere Land Rover is not reliable but it is hard to accept that from such an expensive Car. Could you give more details? Thank you.
pracm After a lot of research, I took delivery of a nearly new Autobiography three weeks ago and am pleased to say it’s been perfect so far (touch wood!)
Two friends also report no problems with their new Range Rovers.
So maybe they’re not so bad after all?
@@davidhorobin1060 Thank you for your input! But why the OSV blunt comment then? It's hard to tell the commenters from the Land Rover owners who actually know the product. That's why I don't really rely on test drivers -- the best test drivers are the owners. Thank you once again and please feel free to post any update that you find relevant and good luck with your Beauty! :)
pracm Expensive cars are notorious for horrific reliability. Ferrari’s and Lambo’s are some of the most problematic and unreliable cars on the road. Want reliable? Toyota and Honda.

nice some day car for me . nice to see a int color besides black
Hi there, are you looking to get a new vehicle soon?
@@OsvUkVehicleSupply like to get a newer yr model but here in the US prices are crazy no inventory used cars same price as a new one so just watch and wait
Beautifully built? Yet to see one that is!
I love sitting commandingly.
😂
Amazing detailed review. Thank you
No problem, Scott. It's our pleasure 👍
Why no real info about the TD V6 Diesel engine that gets almost 30 mpg on highway, that would be the only reason I would even consider Land Rover....though, the Diesel engine (at least in the USA) does not support the long wheel version.
This Is also where the Rover 2000TC should a been today too, voted the Best sports saloon car In Europe n America for 2 years Running in the 60s a well deserved title, n my ALL time favourite sports saloon car
Lovely demonstration
Very great video but the intro just looks like something from an 1875 movie

Thanks for the feedback Jon 👍
I do think the new RR looks good, for a certain type of customer at least. Its very ostentatious. Personally I prefer the SVR sport model although I wouldn’t buy that either if I was wealthy enough. Too big and brash. Footballers car.
Great video
Many thanks Hector!
Your "Would you prefer" pop up shouldn't really give options of cars like the X5, you should be comparing it to cars like the up coming BMW X7 size etc.
You can’t compare this to a car that wasn’t released yet. Besides, there is still a significant mark up for the Vogue but yes, it does compete closer to the X7 and GLS
@@Horizon301. I think the X7 was released by the time this video way out.
Vic Sandhu earliest reg I can see is 19, even then it can be registered between March and September, most are 69 so September onwards.
The plug-in hybrid is such a preposterous idea that is guaranteed to taint the image of this British institution.
Rocky B No tainting whatsoever
Only thing a Range Rover does well is break down!
Driving in your Welles, did you know that’s illegal.
Hi John, thank you for your feedback. Which part of the video are you referring to? We can assure you that the safety of our presenters and other road users is our number one priority when filming vehicle reviews.
Yes it is
Think I'll stick with my SDV8, thanks.
Some countries are going to forbid diesel cars .... in the near future not sure if is feasible ?? .. and in London , parking are more expensive for diesel car !!!
@@Kassiusday I take your point, but I don't think the authorities will be able to make that stick for a while yet. As for London, if you don't live there, you'd be crazy to go there by car. I live in Oxford, where they are planning fierce anti-pollution measures, but I don't see the electric delivery vehicles being common enough (or available enough) within the next ten years for that to work.
An impressive looking Indian car
Dream car eix
I would have bought one over the X5 I've just ordered....IF it had a reputation for reliability. It does not. It is a superb off-roader but over-priced, too large, and with a reputation for issues from day one. I wish I was wrong.
I have a BMW 5GT 2013 release , bought in 2014 with 20000kms, I already put more 100000kms on top. Works like a charm. Never had the smallest of the issues. I love the RRS 2.0 diesel or hybrid but will not bite if it is prone to have issues.
Range rovers cost over 50% more than an X5...
@@Horizon301. which makes their unreliability even more infuriating. I've driven 3 X5s for 300,000 miles and NEVER broken down.
Steve Price just saying, one would rarely set their sites on a Range Rover in the price range of an X5 of its new, most range rivers end up at £100,000 and the X5 is like £60,000. There is the X7 at that higher price point but still, the vogue will cost more thus its more so in the region of the bentayga also. I don’t think most owners care about reliability, most of them that you ask seem to just love them anyway
@@Horizon301. ah, I see what you mean. Yes, my X5 was 65k. The 9 month old Range Rover I looked at was about the same. I agree that people love them and they are superb off-roaders, but I don't share your view that their owners are not concerned about reliability...no point in being able to get to the back of beyond if you can't get back again, and they ARE unreliable in comparison to most German and Japanese cars. What is worse, many of the issues are not always mechanical....wiring looms, lights, electric windows....things that really should not be a problem at 100k.
You forgot to mention .. oh no, you didn't 😅
It is so bad nowadays if you own a nice car you could instantly be considered an Instagrammer 😞
This guy looks very small..next to the Rover
land cruiser is the bencmark

5 year resale and quality is poor.
True. It is simply a moving pile of junk, an endless money pit. Pretty much the same as X5 or any GM product.

Half them cant get across london with out breaking down
It’s unfortunate that reliability can be an issue for some owners. Have you had a similar experience with a Range Rover, or are you considering a different luxury SUV instead?

7 thumbs down who will never be able to afford one lol
Actually, you are mistaken....I’ve owned a 2008 SC and a 2014 SC LWB....traded the 2008 model for a 2013 MB GL AMG63 and offloaded the 2014 for a 2019 Lexus LX570... quality and reliability actually do matter to some drivers
