@@matteodebelser1025 There is probably an acting chapter master, or perhaps he's even been replaced. And I can't imagine that he is. He's considered a heretic and traitor, which is worse than being a murderer in the Imperium.
I heard that the chapter master for The Mantis Warriors was actually formally executed due to his role in the Badab War. I thought it was such a waste. Would have been a great asset to the Death Watch.
I will always see this guys as basicallly being Kamen Riders. Like bug theme and coming from a Legion that loves motorcycles? The jokes write themselves.
They have recently become my favorite chapter. The armor color scheme alone is the best use greens and yellows mixed together. Love their fighting style and fierce loyalty, even though it’s under appreciated.
3:25 Pretty simple really, Arthur. A secondary successor chapter or one that's descended from another simply had its initial gene seed directly sourced from that chapter. In varying cases successor chapters are given to later founding chapters. Sometimes they bloat overstrength and the Ordo Astartes says "no" and has them split, sometimes they're created as a way of "refounding" a destroyed chapter with a new name, Ive heard an example where a successor was given to a later descendent chapter as a gift for exemplary service. Sometimes they work closely with their origin chapter, sometimes they just do their own thing, it varies, but it does happen and it's not that odd really. And I bet theres some mislabeling happening, where successor chapters are founded from other successors, but only the source Legion is actually catalogued, so we just see Blood Angels, Ultramarines, etc on their documents.
I think that while the Imperium needs all the help it can get, having a few loyalists staying more or less hidden isn't a bad thing. Because, you never know.
Love your channel sir! I’ve said it before and I will continue to say it, “For a newbie like me to 40K, you make the lore and all the info super interesting and fun for me to understand!” So THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR WORK!
In one of the Deathwatch Books by Goto I think there was a Mantis Warrior character. They had an ability to slow their perception of events making actions around them appear in slow motion as they fight. If I am remembering right.
Honestly, kind of like how the Mantis Warriors feel akin to the 30k White Scars and The Khan in that despite their actions, they were very much distrusted by the Imperium and the other Legions and kept to themselves. There's this air of constant underestimation they get by the Imperium, even after they have been redeemed for their part in the Badab War, and despite the treatment they get, they don't go rogue or turn to chaos they just continue doing what they do best, regardless of how the Imperium feels about them.
Could successor chapters having their own successors be them complying with the Codex? As when a chapter is on crusade they can have as many marines as they need. So if a crusade ends with say 1500 marines. Would they split the chapter? I’m just theorising here I don’t know any Lore that confirms that.
Why is so much of the art in this video of the Raptors when in those specific parts you're talking about the Mantis Warriors? Is it lack of Mantis art?
I'll admit that I knew naff all about the Mantis Warriors but still made "lol multilaser" memes about them. After watching this it actually makes a lot of sense that a chapter that's frequently out of the general logistics chain would rely on weapons that don't require much in the way of maintenance and have ammunition that is far easier to obtain than that of Astartes bolt weapons. Don't get me wrong, that particular author is still terrible but I disagree with their... artistic licence a bit less now.
I got into the Badab War because of Occulus Imperia. His videos are so personal it feels like you're hearing a story from someone who is seeing it from a scryer's crystal ball. It is one of the most interesting conflicts in 40k, and it gave us one of my favorite Renegade/Traitor Warbands; The Red Corsairs.
3:00 I would assume that successor-successors happen when recruitment outpaces losses and the chapter has to/decides to spin off the surplus marines into thier own chapter in order to stay compliant.
It's taking their stock and saying they were a template as good as a founding chapter and used as the basis for something new in hopes of getting something equally good. The astral claws had 3 or 4 successors iirc
"The Trial of the Mantis Warriors" was the first 40k book I ever read (from the anthology book - "Legends of the Space Marines")so I have always had a soft spot for these lads.
An interesting chapter that kind of gets intercepted research-wise by the Space Sharks and the Badab War. On the surface they seem like "bad guys" specifically designed to be a "Look how hard the Carcharodons beat ass during this war." kind of like with the Minotaurs and the Lamenters. The Badab War has a lot going on, and the Mantis Warriors have to fight to be noticed in a storyline already full of fan favorites. Space Sharks, Minotaurs, Executioners, Lamenters, Astral Claws and more are all present. There's a lot going on already, a main plot with Huron to take center stage alongside the origin story of the Red Corsairs. Then there's the scarcely mentioned Mantis Warriors all the way over there, getting torn to pieces by the edgy, mysterious Shark Marines led by a dreadnought sized Space Marine that no one knows anything about. It's an uphill battle for them in lore and out of lore. They're struggling to be noticed by the playerbase, to be seen as truly redeemed in the eyes of the Imperium. Even if no one know about them, or if their place in the Imperium hasn't been returned they are STILL fighting. Succeeding at little else but surviving the right way, enduring until they cut away all doubts of their loyalty. I think their Primarch would be more than proud of them, carrying on thanklessly like they are.
You can really tell they have white scar lineage. Mostly isolated, not highly regarded yet still act as competent loyal warriors with little complaints.
I'll be honest, while I like their color scheme, I only know of the Mantis Warriors because my favorite Void Guppies tore them a new asshole during the Badab War.
I'm ecstatic that the yellow and green fighting machines are getting love. Hopefully there will be more of the buggiest-bugsters-that-ever-bugged on the tables. (Also, their colors look SO GOOD on phobos armor)
Dammit man, stop making me want to collect new chapters! I'd ask for a video on the Guardians of the Covenant to help with my current project, but they got bupkiss for lore.
The successor of a successor thing is the right of foundation. Basically it is the Space marines version of the right of resettlement. The magic reward for Gaurd regiments at the end of a campaign is that they if they won safificiant Honnors can resettle any of the worlds won in the campaign and ther forth that planet belongs to that regiment and that can do as they please with it. The right of foundation is the only way for a chapter to form without comeing from a founding, when a astartes chapter wins a certain amount of honors on a campaign, they may be granted either by an inquisitor or lord manager of the munitorum the right to form thier own successor chapter on any of the claimed worlds. Unlike a foundings by the the high lords or the Macanicus, chapters formed by the right of foundation are handled exclusively by the parent chapter. With the apothecaries of the chapter being the ones to make any needed or desired changes to the gene seed to give birth to this new chapter. With often a company or 2 of the parent chapter being left to form the new chapters veterans and comand structure as well as develop the new chapters cultures and doctrine as they see fit. With often the second company captain being made master of the new chapter, as such a chapter formed by the rite of founding could know itself as a successor to a successor and not as just a mother chapter from a certain gene stocks. PS, while some of this is speculation and head cannon based on infer inference, it is cannon that the right to split off and form a new chapter as you see fit is a honor that is given to spaces marines chapters and is highly sought after.
Connor, your material that gets meta and emotional is unique and engaging and I think you should just fucking hammer that vector hard because it’s totally unique.

I actually never knew how cool the Mantis Warriors were. They do seem pretty cool. One of the cooler chapters in the badab war imo. Speaking of which... I would like to submit my ninth request for a Red Scorpions video Hgs and Ksises, cool dude
