For that rust, try detailing clay bar. Use it as a scrubber with water and see if it comes off. The clay will not dilute as it is designed to wash vehicles. It generally will take out stained rusts or early rust stage. Give it some elbow grease if required without denting your vehicle.
@@rallywagon261 the reason why oxidation and rusting is differentiated is because in rusting the oxide forms a porous material that allows oxygen to reach new pure material below it (that's why heavy rusting peels off in layers) Aluminum however, does not rust, because the oxide layer is nonporous, effectively stopping oxygen from reaching any aluminum below it; it's also the reason why you need a high frequency current when welding aluminum, in order to break down the oxide layer
For the mirror you can easily get a replacement kit that has a mirror, the windshield mount block, and adhesive for relatively cheap and won't have to worry about it falling off
some GE silicone 1 on the suction cup of the mirror before attaching it would hold it in place. Many people have used 100% silicone adhesives for assembling glass aquariums that stay together for decades.
Adding larger tires drastically changes the torque ratios of the drivetrain and could significantly stress the motor and transmission. Be cautious in that regard and check with the company or a mechanical engineer before implementing that change.

My wife and I just watched your video on the cheap electric truck. This has inspired us to look into getting a low-cost road worthy short range electric vehicle . At first, we thought range was all important but since we're both retired we only have a need to travel by car locally. This should help us save , on an electric vehicle, by not requiring a massive battery source which adds a considerable amount to the overall cost. So, our search begins... Thanks for your video and we look forward to your future videos and DIY projects. Gary
My grandparents recently bought a refurbished electric golf cart. That thing only travels at the speed of a bicycle (I think 30km/h), but is more than enough to visit friends in the neighbouring towns, drive to the discounter for the weekly groceries, inspect the fields and hunting cabins etc. They are also road legal (atleast here in Germany and our laws tend to be among the strictest, when it comes to vehicles) and the required driving license is also the lowest (either a normal car license or one for small mopeds). Disadvantage: Golf carts do not have a pickup bed.
It is called the old man's car in China. It is specially used by the elderly for activities in the fields and near their homes. The old man bought vegetables to pick up the children from school and pulled fertilizer. However, they cannot go on the road. It is very convenient for home use. No refueling
How do you get to school without using the roads? Or are they just quickly looking left and right, whether the police is near and just do it anyways? Among the elderly in Germany it became popular to drive refurbished golfcarts, that are streetlegal (as far as I am aware EU wide, but you won't cross many borders with such vehicles anyways)
@@SchwachsinnProduzent To be honest I have never seen this type of thing in China. People usually drive real cars. I guess it could be popular in rural area which road and off-road are to some degree similar? But it's probably too expesnive to serve such a purpose....

As for licensing, In Michigan, you can get an ORV permit for 15 bucks a year. This allows you on secondary roads(No highways or interstates) as well as the well developed snowmobile\Bike\ATV trail network that will take you to anywhere one needs to go. As soon as I figure a way around the shipping fees, I'm getting one!
I think it’s something like that here in Tennessee. They do have to be tagged but as long as their street legal Your licensed and insured your good to go. I’m not surprised it’s held up like it has either. It may last forever.
I was curious because I never heard about this manufacturer, then i did some research: This truck is really something made for low income villagers in rural area in China and it would not even be allowed to have a licence plate in most of the cities. I don't understand why there are so much stupid comments here. Isn't it a good thing to have a cheap truck like this which just gives the market a little bit more choices? You can spend $70k on a good reliable luxury made in China car like Nio, but when you only want to spend amount of moeny like this, what are you complainning? Sounds like give you 2k, you can give me a better truck made in the US?
@@bsa2025 It's cheap cause it's a piece of shit that would land you in the grave if a Yugo plowed into you at 20mph. Otherwise it's a golf cart with a cab.

Do you think yourself as 'looking down' on people when driving a truck? Keep on hating on the 2000$ 'electric' truck. Given the low price, a truck like this would be great for a do-it-yourself home owner who needs to haul bulky stuff but can't afford a typical pickup and doesn't want to trash the family car. For a trip or two to a big box store, the limited range wouldn't matter.
People don't understand that these trucks were made to run around Asia in some of the worst conditions, are they top quality no. But i would rather have a small truck over a 7k qaud any day.
Thanks for the truck update. This truck definitely has a purpose and there is a lack of manufacturing for products like this in North America. Glad it is working out for you.
Bedlining your whole truck would actually be a pretty sweet option for this little rig. It's a lot lower maintenance than paint, especially in rugged conditions. My father in law recently got into it, and it really looks pretty sharp when done right
very thorough testing and non partial comments. enjoy hearing all about this. would definitely make a great personnel transport for a farmor non road useage. great portable tool box !
Thanks for the update. The mirror is an easy fix. They sell them at the parts store with a little metal piece you glue to the windshield. The bed could be spray lined. Think they called it Rhino Guard and it will last for decades. You probably knew all this already, :)
Even at the 7 or 8 grand you've got in it, it's not bad considering what most side by sides cost. Its no comparison to a Rozor but for someone not looking for speed or big power then it's not bad. Some real tires would be nice.
As for the rear view mirror falling off because of the factory "suction cup" mount, you can buy an aftermarket glue-on metal mirror support at most any auto parts store, and then just mount an inexpensive mirror on it.
How and why should a rear view mirror just fall off? That never happens anymore. Maybe older cars. It's not supposed to happen. You sound so casual talking about this like the Chinese aren't known for making cheap garbage. If you buy a car and something like that happens when it's still new, then that's a huge indicator. The fact that there isn't glue on it and it's held by a suction cup should be another hint that Chinese make cheap crap. They just do.
We use suction-cup mounts for a number of temporary situations where drilling holes is not in the cards or when we want to preview where to permanently mount hooks, etc., just a dab of silicone on the middle will keep it from falling off. It you need to remove the suction cup later, just slide a putty knife under the cup. We will be following your progress for the next few months or more. Stay well, friends.
I'm not surprised it's held up this well. It's clearly had some thought and real engineering put into the design and the material quality is about as good as I'd expect for the price point. It's a nice little work truck and probably much easier to maintain than an old pickup.
They're a breeze to maintain or even modify, I have a 90v 12kw drivetrain and it'll do about 60 but I rarely take it over 40 and it does great hauling my pool chemicals and equipment. I paid $19k for mine after buying shipping and modified drivetrain and it's better than any small truck for light commercial work imo. I also have close to 200mi of range with my normal driving and it's always enough to get through my route and day
@@JUNEBUGLLC in your opinion it's a clown car, but it's helped keep maintenance costs down for my business significantly as the electric drivetrain handles the abuse of day to day work much better than any gas truck I've had. And show me a truck you can buy off the lot for 19k or less because I doubt you'll see one rolling out under 26k at least that's how it is in my area
Love the update. Just want to say, if larger diameter wheels/tires were installed, the hauling abilities and power of the truck will be reduced. It would be like changing the gear ratio in the drive train to taller gears. And to those who say don't buy Chinese goods, I guess don't use a cell phone or computer or watch TV or use electric appliances or .....
If you could get a smaller rim and bigger tires, it might help the suspension without changing the ratio. Still probably increase rotational mass, and you'd have to make sure it would clear the brakes, but it might be an option.
@@Phate8263 That's very true. I wonder what bolt pattern this truck uses? Might be a little difficult to find other wheels if it's some weird pattern. Of course, a custom adapter could be made.
It's essentially a very very nice golf cart for getting around your estate to work on stuff. It's got AC for hot summers and hydraulic dump that could be useful to move gravel and dirt around.
For the rearview mirror, make sure that the glass and suction cup is completely clean. If there's any dust or dirt it prevents suction from staying. Or epoxy it on.
Since I was young, the solution is always to put a drop of water to the suction cup and spread it around. Wet the glass/ceramic too if you feel like it. The water will get rid of all the air and it's gonna stay sticky for good.
I would just get a regular rear view mirror and mount (the metal piece) and use the rear view mirror adhesive they sell in the auto parts store. Should hold for at least a decade or more, even in the sun.

You may have already thought of this, but a quick upgrade for the wiper issue is to just buy a longer wiper blade. It won't change the total angle of the sweep of the wiper, but it will wipe more of the windshield. Just run the wiper to the top, measure how much room you have, then buy one that covers that area. If you could use more clearing at the top of the sweep, just lift the wiper from the shaft and rotate it a few degrees. It will not clear all the way to the bottom, but a clear windshields at the top may be more useful than at the bottom.
Considering the amount you paid for it and how well it's held up you've got a bargain. Side-by-sides cost as much a regular car and even 4 wheelers are like what 10k? This isn't as fast, but it's got a lot of cool features. Interior heating and cooling, that dump bed, even an infotainment system.
It's a perfect little yard truck. Stays on the property. Perfect landscaping companion if you ask me. Even has AC? Don't need to drive far in the yard. Use that battery to create a little AC compartment to follow you around the garden. Amazing.
My Honda mini truck would be next best thing. Now they are about $10k but I got a very nice example for $6k with ac and gets about 50mpg and ford 75mph.
RE: suction cup mirror: The secret to getting it to stay on is to wait until the windshield is as hot as you expect it to be. If you put it on while cold, the microscopic amount of air between the suction cup and the windshield will expand when heating up, and it will fall. Consult any person driving with a dashcam for uber or lyft.
Would be interesting to see how well it would work in a cold climate. BTW, in some places you can class this as a "Farm Vehicle" like a tractor thus allowing it to access rural roads for short periods.

Don't use any thick paint like product (undercoating, bed liner, etc) on the frame and undercarriage. Those products trap moisture and hide any rust that forms. Get some Wool Wax or Fluid Film and spray those areas down. Drill small holes at the front and rear of the lower doors and spray in there too. You may have to repeat every few years but, it will never rust out.
Not true at all, paint is vastly superior to bare metal and thus was painted from the factory on parts where it matters. What you are thinking of is the advice people give for treating something ALREADY rusted. Plus, I doubt you have any concept of farm use on dirt/mud/etc, where it gets flung on and a little wool wax or fluid film will only slow that down, and isn't fully resistant to the power washing that's going to be needed to clean it. Yes you can recoat after every wash but what a pain of effort and continual expense for a low value vehicle.

I concur. Not as a pessimist, but for curiosity’s sake I would be interested to see how it ages. I would for any vehicle. They all have their trouble spots with rust or mechanical failures over time. some things are more challenging to repair or replace than others.
eh lots of new well known brand cars have issues within the first 3 months. Transmission issues, electricals, leaks. Would be all usually covered under warranty but still...definitely more common than you would think.
The man just got this truck for 3 months, I think you’re asking too much at this point. Maybe come back in another 9 months? For this price, it’s proven to not being a total garbage, and I think that’s the point of this video.
I don't know if it's been said but you could go buy a rear view mirror for and older car that has the little mount glued to the windshield. I don't really think the mirror would know what it was mounted on lol and that would solve your mirror falling off.
I would really like to see you go through the DOT process to get this registered as a low speed street legal vehicle. Please DIY the upgrades and document the costs along the way. Dad already wants new tires so there is probably the most expensive dot upgrade.
I watched the original video on this truck and now this one, and I really enjoy your presentation. One thing I was hoping to see more about was running the air conditioner while actually using the truck to see what the cost is. The AC would be important here in Texas, especially bumping around at low speed. If you could find some way to quantify usage with and without the AC so that we can see whether or not the larger battery is needed. I suspect that with the lift bed it probably is, still it would be interesting information to me.
Great video, thanks! And congratulations! I have a couple of questions; Does it have heating in the AC? Does it have air bag? And what's the max speed? And where I can order one? Thanks in advance :)
It is pretty useful around a ranch, and just about zero maintenance is a plus. The suspension seems to be configured for heavier loads, and since your family is hauling lighter stuff, you could go to a softer spring rate (if you can find something you could adapt to it). Thanks for the video!
Another great video. Thanks for ALL the updates. Get your ham ticket, maybe we'll make contact on the air! And to your dad, my hat's off to you for being part of your son's life, that was great!
I'm sure someone already mentioned the order of the charging connection is an important safety feature. Like a car booster starter pack that has to be connected to something and sense some voltage, it won't work if the battery is completely totally dead. This prevents power spikes blasting ur computer or people powering up devices in enclosed areas, fire hazards like powering car stereos or something with bare wires and jumper cables or alligator clips or backfeeding power into the grid somewhere.
This is something you won't have on an electrical vehicle. Tiny wheels are necessary to reduce friction and energy consumption. Wider larger tires will reduce significantly your vehicle autonomy and range.
@Kyle Fugere actually it is. Manufactures go even as far as installing frictionless rims with a plain surface so air has as little resistance as possible. Also, you have added weight. Everything impacts range with ease. Installing big wide wheels and spiked rims with wide wheel arch will easily decrease your car range. ruclips.net/video/NYvKxsYFqO8/видео.html&ab_channel=EngineeringExplained
@@spring9603 try slim lowfriction tyres on sand. Wider tyres would use less energy. It all depends on matching tyre to surface for low energy consumption. Kyle is correct - not completely true 🤓😉
@@TheStuartstardust wider tires use less energy? :)))))) Funny, but it's wrong. The wider the tire, the bigger the contact surface which multiplied by the friction coefficient of the materials will result in a direct proportional increase in energy required to move an object. Physics 101. ;)
In the initial video he said the top speed is 25mph and range of roughly 75 miles but he hasn't tested the range as he only uses it on the property as it's not road legal.
Enjoyed the video. Before installing a ham radio in the truck you may want to see how much radio noise the truck's engine control system generates. A portable transistor radio is one way ... lay the radio in the passenger seat and drive the truck through the pasture to get an idea as to whether-or-not the truck's motor control system is quiet enough (from a radio frequency interference standpoint).
Just love the vibe of your videos. Especially videos with you and your dad in the same frame. There's something really wholesome about a dad, his son and the farm. Keep up with the videos.
This channel is awesome man. Just wanted to say I love what you're doing. The world needs these channels, needs people passionate about evs and most of all needs people to demonstrate these EVs to get others excited about it.
on Ebay now there are some chinese solar panels around 14 inches square that charge 50w in bright sun, so that's around 3.5 amps full time and that's a nice slow charge I use for my van when it sits out all winter.
In 2017 I bought a Chinese UTV (Joyner R2 1100ccc), it was only about $7000, compared to several times that amount for the more well known brands. It gets used a lot, as I live in northern Arizona and they can be driven on the highway, as well as many, many places right in my community that I can ride off-road , as we are surrounded by national forest. It has been a great vehicle, and has only required minimal routine maintenance. The only reason they can get the price they do for the better known brand UTVs is the 'easy monthly payment financing'. They are definitely overpriced.
You may want to look into switching out the suspension components on this to something from a side by side utility vehicle. Would give you a more comfortable ride if you are willing to do some light fabrication work.
Great video! Neat little truck! I think this would be a great truck for hauling bikes around the city for anyone who likes to bike. Great for hauling a washing machine or just doing small jobs around the house / farm. No gas required either so that's an added bonus. The lithium ion battery will be expensive to replace but over time people should be able to find a cheaper solution / hack to replace the battery. When gas prices hit $1.90 a liter here in Canada it was insane just to use the car for literally anything. If someone could bring and sell that truck from China, I guarantee that loads of people would flock to buy something like small and practical like that mini truck.

@@cannedstarfish6194 that’s my point. I didn’t say 55 mph. I just said a little bit faster. Maybe 15 mph would be enough. Just for rural or farm like I said. I'm really surprised at how well it's held up. I think the only odd thing I've seen about it is the tailgate, it doesn't come down flat which is strange. For a cheap little run about it seems pretty reasonable.
Your Dad's suggestion matched mine exactly -- It could sure use some larger wheels. Not only will it look better, but it should make the ride a little less bumpy. Cool little truck.. Thanks for sharing.
At the cost of gear ratio. If you have any to fix the suspension, do that. But the tires and wheels do play an important part in towing/hauling capacity.

I also have close to 200mi of range with my normal driving and it's always enough to get through my route and day
@DigitalJedi Lmao.
Lol but you could get a ford ranger that could last 30 years for the same price
@@MrJasenstewart9719k for a clown car what are you smoking? 😂😅

Silicone lube is best remedy for suction cups
Since I was young, the solution is always to put a drop of water to the suction cup and spread it around. Wet the glass/ceramic too if you feel like it. The water will get rid of all the air and it's gonna stay sticky for good.
I would just get a regular rear view mirror and mount (the metal piece) and use the rear view mirror adhesive they sell in the auto parts store. Should hold for at least a decade or more, even in the sun.
@@jamesjacobs8727 - Yep. Silicone lubricant works like a charm. Lasts a long time.

Seems like some other people with way more expensive trucks out there, had not "enjoyed" their toys like you guys do... this is just awesome !!!
Wiper engineering is something I have played with for 43 years.
People get used electric golf carts for the purpose of running around their property. Easier to step on/off and those things fly.
Do not text the WhatsApp number it's a scam
It's a perfect little yard truck. Stays on the property. Perfect landscaping companion if you ask me.
Even has AC? Don't need to drive far in the yard. Use that battery to create a little AC compartment to follow you around the garden. Amazing.
My Honda mini truck would be next best thing. Now they are about $10k but I got a very nice example for $6k with ac and gets about 50mpg and ford 75mph.
After all the shipping and port fees and everything he paid I think it was between $8,000 and $10,000
RE: suction cup mirror:
The secret to getting it to stay on is to wait until the windshield is as hot as you expect it to be. If you put it on while cold, the microscopic amount of air between the suction cup and the windshield will expand when heating up, and it will fall. Consult any person driving with a dashcam for uber or lyft.
Silicone sealant applied. Never coming off now. regards
Would be interesting to see how well it would work in a cold climate. BTW, in some places you can class this as a "Farm Vehicle" like a tractor thus allowing it to access rural roads for short periods.
In Idaho you'd only need to get a slow moving vehicle tag, and never take it on 45mph or higher roads. I'm sure other states have a similar rule

Would be cool to build a “car port” for it that’s got solar panels on the roof. Would protect it from the elements and charge it at the same time. I’d address that small rust issue before it becomes problematic though.
That rust is on the roof rack. The frame is fine, and it'll be cheaper and more efficient to replace it when needed than endeavor to "address" it now.

Not wasting time and materials on something if it won't be needed in the long term is always more efficient than wasting time and materials on something, and dealing with the rust on the roof rack will not in any way make the solar panels better.
Clean with scuff pad or steel wool and alcohol, 2 spritz's of rustoleum primer and a dab of white paint, it's fixed... I think the paint cracked and chipped off right there is all, when the roof was crushed in shipping, ocean water surface rusted it quick.

I don't know if it's been said but you could go buy a rear view mirror for and older car that has the little mount glued to the windshield. I don't really think the mirror would know what it was mounted on lol and that would solve your mirror falling off.
The auto supply stores here sell a special ($pecial) glue in a small tube that sticks the mirror to the glass so well that it never comes off.

I watched the original video on this truck and now this one, and I really enjoy your presentation. One thing I was hoping to see more about was running the air conditioner while actually using the truck to see what the cost is. The AC would be important here in Texas, especially bumping around at low speed. Does it have heating in the AC?
Does it have air bag?
And what's the max speed?

It is pretty useful around a ranch, and just about zero maintenance is a plus. The suspension seems to be configured for heavier loads, and since your family is hauling lighter stuff, you could go to a softer spring rate (if you can find something you could adapt to it). Thanks for the video!

Have you looked into modding the wheel wells for bigger tires? It would look great with some radial ATs on it!
This is something you won't have on an electrical vehicle. Tiny wheels are necessary to reduce friction and energy consumption. Wider larger tires will reduce significantly your vehicle autonomy and range.
@@spring9603 not completely true
@Kyle Fugere actually it is. Manufactures go even as far as installing frictionless rims with a plain surface so air has as little resistance as possible. Also, you have added weight. Everything impacts range with ease. Installing big wide wheels and spiked rims with wide wheel arch will easily decrease your car range.

Before installing a ham radio in the truck you may want to see how much radio noise the truck's engine control system generates.

In 2017 I bought a Chinese UTV (Joyner R2 1100ccc), it was only about $7000, compared to several times that amount for the more well known brands. Also golf carts aren’t just for old people. Even younger adults drive them. I have a friend owns a golf cart and they live in a town that allows it. Not here in town where I live in.
For around 3500 total it sure ended up being a nimble little farm truck
Chang Li really made an awesome little truck here!
yep. we agree
I'm really surprised at how well it's held up. I think the only odd thing I've seen about it is the tailgate, it doesn't come down flat which is strange. For a cheap little run about it seems pretty reasonable.
Put a smear of petroleum jelly on the sucker mount for the mirror. It forms a better seal and it'll stay put from then on.
Silicone ?
I use 3m double tape for that.
Loved playing centaur, back in the day still play pinball when I can, these old tables are wore out it is great that the circuit boards can be upgraded. Like everyone worried about the conversion but you are an artist what can I say.
