Agree with everything! It's amazing what you can find at antique shops my husband found some beautiful 18th century chairs reupholstered in this beautiful bright yellow silk there was a signature of the upholsterer underneath. he was able to find him and contact him he's an 85 year old polish man that lives in Philadelphia and did upholstery for Jackie Onassis!!! We got them for a steal! I would love to show you! They are fine!
In eastern Cuba, arched windows often were made with multicolored stained glass at the top part of the arch, resembling different colored rays of light. Interior patios were also common.
Yikes! I accidentally might be on trend for once. I just redid my library in Arts and Crafts-- William Morris wallpaper, Craftsman pottery, leaded glass, warm woods, ferns, etc. Thanks, Garrett.
I have beautiful expensive cherry paneling in some of the rooms in the house I inherited from my parents. People have been trying to get me to paint it but I love it. Now I will show them this video.
I have to just say that one of my favorite things about you that keeps me coming back is your love for historic preservation and all things vintage! I have a passion for it as well! I have been turning my house that was built in 2007 in the Georgian Style to be a representation of a mix of old and new even though the house isn't old. It's been a long term passion project that I'm far from done with. I love your videos because they have inspired me throughout the process.
I so agree with you about thin-planked floors! We have a bamboo floor, which is the thinest of thin planking, super rich with detail. Bamboo is also sustainable and cheaper than solid wood, so it's a win-win.
Craftsman, a much more sophisticated and timeless style then modern farmhouse-truly beautiful. And thanks for the confirmation that my tapestries and cypress wood paneling will always be classy-I love them.
My apartment building was built in 1951. Everything is dated. Even the kitchen tile is original. White tiny tiles with the occasional pink, yellow, blue going on. Yep, the solution was to buy a pink coffee pot and toaster!
Great idea! That's so clever. Do you also have parquet flooring? I do. I learned to love them, because they are in really good condition and I have new baseboards and doors.
@@jadedelarge8929 My living room, hallway and bedrooms are light thin plank oak wood floors, my bathroom is that fake dark wood crap stuff and I have white 12 inch linoleum tile on my kitchen floor. The bath used to me teeny ceramic tiles and the kitchen 6 inch ceramic tiles, but the subfloor wad messed up, so it is what it is.
I've always adored the look of oversized doors with big, gorgeous, heavy door knockers!! 🥰They just look so regal and so luxe. Especially when it's paired with oversized double doors... To die for! 🖤🖤🖤
I love a lot of the Art Nouveau/Belle Epoque style. The organic lines of staircase railings and some of the furniture is just so gorgeous! And it's nice to know the Craftsman style bedroom furniture I bought in the mid-90's is coming back into fashion. For me, it never went out of style.
Love Art Nouveau too! Yes, a good Art Nouveau staircase will always look stylish. I remember seeing some gorgeous examples when I went to Paris a few years ago. Good quality pieces in this style are really hard to come by though. I keep looking online and in second-hand shops with little success, although I have picked up some lovely sconces and a Liberty divider screen. I've also reupholstered some furniture in modern furnished fabric in an Art Nouveau style to tie the elements together so I've got some little sprinklings of Art Nouveau throughout my space. Glad Craftsman might be making a comeback as it's one of my favourite styles too. Currently on the lookout for a nice, reasonably priced Craftsman-style vase for an empty spot on my mantelpiece!
How delightful to find I have three trends you mentioned already in my home! I have two treasured tapestries in my bedroom, one a gift from my late husband. In my living room hangs a large-scale primitive landscape which I commissioned from a local indigenous artist. And I have wood ceilings in my office, kitchen and sun room. I have them all because I love them all -- they delight me -- not because I was trying to be on-trend. (But I do feel a bit smug.)
Hello from Austria 🇦🇹 , Garrett and LeChic family. A few weeks ago, I stumbled across your channel and have been binge-watching ever since! I have already learned so very much from you, and am excited about everything still to come. As a European, I am completely like a fish out of water with many other channels, and truly appreciate your unique approach. I live in a small flat, very modern, modified open-space, about 600 sqft/56 m². BUT! my building wing forms one side of a large courtyard of a historically renovated , former inn from the 15th century! The medieval town wall borders my little garden to the South. It truly is my treasure, both garden and flat. My style, if I even have one, is a melange of modern organic, a lot of sunny disposition academia (my floor to ceiling bookshelves are white ) and a trip around the world, with emphasis on North African desert. Does that even make sense? In Europe it does, as we tend to have a more grown style, we do not move as often as Americans. With childlike delight, I realize in each video of yours, how much I have intuitively done right. Also what I can correct, and where I am heading with my unique style. Already you have given me marvelous ideas of what to do with a few things. Since I have a tiny budget, that means a whole lot to me. For example, I am about to change the drapes on my large, almost floor to ceiling window and door in the living- and dining room area. This window stretches along the entire width of my garden, which I have made very private, though I am part of the courtyard and live in the old center of my town. Thanks to you I now know exactly what I want and how. Also thank you for all the chuckles, you always make me smile. For the glee I feel when you do not find something to your taste and standards. And last, but not least: thank you for not making 'lux' your every second word! With warm greetings from Austria 🇦🇹!
I love how you present an idea, but provide alternatives. And in my world large art has never gone out of style, as my home has many large paintings (3 ft x 4 ft and 4 ft x 5 ft). Another wonderful video. 👏❤️👏
New subscriber here . You are a wealth of knowledge. I love your homage to timeless architecture and features . Also love that you are not enamored with latest trends. And lastly you are so charming, and such a pleasure to listen to.
Hi, Garrett! I absolutely love love love you and your sweet doggies. Also, I love your ideas, even though I can only use a few. My house was built in 1926 - a Spanish Mission style. Almost everything has been inherited or scrounged. The primary style is what I call “Grandma Chic.” It certainly reflects my life-style. I joined the Chic Family a few weeks ago, but I can’t find your reply. Can you point me to the place where I can find it? Thanks! -Cindy
Hi Cynthia! Happy New Year. I see where you let me know in the comments of my video 10 Trends That Make A Kitchen Look Dated that you subscribed, and I replied and welcomed you to the channel. That was a month ago. It's in the comment section of that video. Anyway, welcome to the channel. I'm so happy you are part of our beloved subscriber family.
Loved this video. You are responsible for me unsubscribing and unfollowing several other channels because you are the real deal and not stuck in the echo chamber of trends and "influencers". Keep it up and keep shining your own light!
And I love a fireplace. My houseboat has a fabulous mantel, but it was fueled by refillable propane tanks that just did not work. I found an electric flickering candle set with a heater. They are wide and there are a lot of them. My contractor put an outlet in the fireplace and it works remotely. The heater, which you really do not see is an extra bonus in the winter. We put the fireplace glass back in and it definitely works well in the room.
So many good points here! I love wood in any form, and love all the solid pine doors in our house and the bamboo floors. And I agree about less modern fireplaces - ours is built from stones collected on our land with a hand-hewn mantle from a downed cherry tree. The naturalness of it is wonderful.
I live in a craftsman, with arts and crafts lighting, skeleton wainscoting, and skinny hardwoods. 🎉 ready for 2023! I have mixed contemporary with craftsman throughout my home. Light and bright walls with original woodwork.
Great video again Garrett. The one design element in a home that I would like to see come back, is individual rooms. No more open concept or “Grand Room”. I would like a Kitchen that is a closed room, a living room with doors, whether large glass French doors or even just divided by walls. I want a dining room that is specifically a Dinning Room. Even if this is the place the family gathers to eat a Breakfast, or Lunch as well as a dinner. Not just for entertaining friends and family. But hey, that’s just me! Cheers! 🤗🥰🇨🇦
In 2005 I bought a Turkish floor sofa Dark red rug pattern stuffed and one piece goes on the floor and the other against the wall, I prop them up against the wall. Looks wonderful and it hides the electric plug and cord for the lamp next to it, on a antique dry sink.
I am a new subscriber. I love your channel. After watching one of your videos I looked at my problematic dining room again, and solved a long standing problem. I now love my dining room. Thanks!
I've been lugging a Stickley coffee table around from house to house, state to state for 35 years (And boy are my arms tired 😂) No matter where I have lived, it's matched beautifully. Edit- a word.
We did thin plank floors when we built our house 12 years ago because I love them and they were the cheapest option! It's difficult to find now with installers.
Another great video. So many super ideas. I have a large tapestry in my dining room that I was thinking of changing out and now you have made me rethink it. Thanks for your design insight.
Love watching your videos Garrett. Your different view on what ppl can have and do in their homes is so very refreshing to hear. Please always keep doing you. ❤
Another great video, Garrett! I love coming here and feeling like we're all this little group of design rebels who won't do what we're told, ha ha! Both of my grandfathers were carpenters by trade, so naturally I LOVE Craftsman and wood filled spaces. One "dated" thing I never stopped loving is oak wood, and I'm tired of apologizing for it, lol. It's sunny and warm and that's the kind of thing that just makes me happy. 😊
I have used several of the talking points in this video in my home, and let me tell you, they have stood the test of time. Especially impactful are my LARGE paintings and tapestries, which really pack a wallop, visually. Drama is neither for the faint of heart nor the tiny of scale. Your content is always superb and whatever you suggest is invariably well reasoned and elegant without being stuffy or contrived. Pitch- perfect, it not only strikes the right note, but the most pleasing tone to all the senses. Your work on this channel is impeccable!
I have a pleated fabric light and it’s easily vacuumed for the most part BUT in the little creases (especially because of pets) I’ve found that running a little eyebrow spoolie in the crease pulls out all the dust/hair that’s hard to reach 😊
agree on wood paneling.. my parents bought a new home in 1956 built by a Swede. The living walls had full sheet large plywood-sized light wood panels. When/if I can renovate my mid-century-esque living room, I want to panel the walls w/ said panels. Loved this episode.
You always have such original, interesting & informative content. Love this for you & us ❤ Great ideas although not all of them are to my personal taste or suitable for where I live. Can’t wait to see this channel hit 100K 🙏🙏 you certainly deserve it ❗️‼️🥇🏆
How gratifying to find this video. My house is in a modern craftsman style, with wood moldings and trim, several pieces of mission style furniture and narrow plank oak floors. I have several “tapestries” (rugs, actually) on the wall as well as a huge oil painting (6 ft x 3 1/2 ft). My fireplace is natural stone. Certain members of my family think everything in my house is out dated but maybe not!
I would love to see more patterned wood floors - herringbone, checkerboard light and dark, (the classic black and white checker floor is one of my favorite ways to tile a kitchen or bathroom as well but in wood it is very cool) etc. Garrett, go watch the music video for Elton John’s “I Want Love” that stars Robert Downey Jr. The mansion it was filmed in is STUNNING. It also has a lot of paneled walls and heavy molding detail.
Thanks for watching, and sharing Katharine! I appreciate it. Please take a moment if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
I just watched the video for the first time. Stunning home and beautiful floors. I would love to see Garrett and family living in something like this one day and see how he decorates such a massive and gorgeous mansion.
I dig your general aesthetic because of your focus on timeless pieces. I also appreciate how well integrated the sum of advice across your entire library is. 👍😁 Came back to mention my continual adoration of the Rumford fireplace. Have you encountered this cool looking AND efficient design?
My husband and I found four gorgeous, navy leather French chairs in an antique shop. We’ve spread them all over the apartment. Everyone loves them too !
I'm looking to mix stone (or tile) colours in my kitchen and bathroom. My bathroom has a 2010s decorative grey trim, and I'm looking for flooring that mixes those cool greys with warmer beiges or browns, which I'll continue into the kitchen. Possibly with a changed backsplash from white square tiles to something stone or stone inspired (brown/grey/green is the image I have in my head). To the extent it's personal: a close relative is a geologist. It's a nod to them.
If I had a magic wand, I would bring back coved ceilings (we had them in a rental 25 years ago and I still miss them), arched doors/doorways, and transom windows ❤❤ I wish we had laundry shoots, cold rooms, and more built in cubbies (like in between the studs or recessed cabinets).
We have thin-plank cherry wood floors on our main floor. Last year we decided to remove the carpet in our main bedroom on the second floor and we of course wanted thin-plank cherry wood floors. We couldn’t get the exact style but it’s close. It may have been more expensive to install but it was so worth it.
Hi Garrett, I introduced myself to you about a month ago. Enjoyed this video as I do all of yours, but I have to tell you that I had a big smile on my face a couple days ago when you showed up on my phone's Flipboard new feed...the US Sun had an article reviewing one of your reviews about a week back. Fun to see you get the exposure!
My daughter did some wood paneling in her new beautiful home and it looks amazing ! I thought, oh well… so glad to hear it from you. I have new wood floors on our new re done bedroom. Thank you always.
Wonderful my narrow plank wood floors are coming in style. 😂 My 1975 ranch style home has solid wood cabinets. Someone painted them all white. I’m in the process of figuring out if I want to go with the dark stain they were originally or something lighter. I’m leaning lighter just because it’s a small galley kitchen. I also have moody grey walls with tumbled travertine backsplash. And granite countertops. So trying to find a stain is a little harder than I thought.
Almost 60k subscribers!! Go, Garrett! On the way to 100k!! Can't wait to that day, and it won't take long 💖 Another great video, by the way. It was so entertaining.
I have the Craftsman style of furniture in my home. Tables, chairs, headboards, dressers. But I draw the line at the sofas and chairs with the large, hard, uncomfortable wooden arms. My sofas are upholstered, comfy, with comfy arms. Seating should make you want to cozy up, stretch out, read. I also don't care for the "Tiffany" style lighting. Too much harsh square-ness in a room. I like large art. The walls with a multitude of pictures always looks messy to me, no one picture stands out, and there's ALWAYS something that goes crooked!
I just want to see more of your “little old man” baby puppy. I had an 18 year old Dachshund and he was the TREASURE of my life. I miss him daily and love to see Senior Dogs living their best lives.
I've been watching a lot of movies from 1930-1950's. The room decor tended to be way too busy for my taste, but what about those lamps and shades! Sure, some are tacky, but most were very cool looking statement pieces. The detail and texture was amazing.
I'd love to bring some stained glass into my home - there are so many styles out there to fit your home. My home was built in 1911 so I would need to do some research, but I really think stained glass is gorgeous with the light coming through and playing off the walls in the room or hallway! Excellent video today!
Love that you brought up Craftsman! That’s been my vibe for my remodel and redecorating these past 18 months. My house is late 70s modern in architecture, but I’m making it work, starting with a a Craftsman influenced kitchen. By watching your videos, you’ve been my guru and guide throughout the process. Everything you said about Craftsman is spot on!
I was just about to rip the tapestry off my 2 story family room wall! I’ve been bingeing on your videos and am another person who appreciates your love of vintage…. And dogs! & ps I’m a subscriber. Thank you.
Great video, Garrett, thanks. You bring ideas forward no one else has yet touched! Your recommendation of tapestries reminds me that I have yet to find the tapestry hanging of a Modigliani painting I bought in Brussels five years ago amongst all my packing boxes. We had friends who installed a wool wall hanging in their living room. They never noticed the moths floating around it! Something to consider if you are thinking of hanging a wool tapestry - buy moth repellent spray. 😂
Thanks so much Muriel! Welcome to the channel. It’s great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. I always recommend clicking on the bell notifications so you know every time we post a video. 😊😊😊
Wood…I’ve had wood cathedral and then raked ceilings for as long as I can remember. People have at times “suggested” I have them painted. Politely here, I have said, “if anyone goes near my ceilings with paint takes their life in their hands.” The aesthetic, ambience and just plain beauty to behold is wood ceilings be they in or out of fashion.
Thanks so much for sharing, I really appreciate that your style is so versatile and you’re more concerned with what works for your customer as opposed to what’s on trend!
Loving your content so much❤️ Oversized art is something I really want to incorporate in my decor. Also, as a European, the arch windows are something that I can see that is definitely coming back 🙏
Awesome! Thank you! Glad you are enjoying Liliana. Please take a moment if you haven't already to support the channel, and become a very valued subscriber.
Hello Beautiful LeChic Family ❣️ I love this video 💯 Craftsman is my absolute favorite style in a home! Love that you mentioned this style & Yes.. it should be brought back! Everything you mentioned is right in line with what I love about following your channel. Big smiles 😁. Oh yes...That's my Designer! Until next time. Hugs xx
Just moved into a new house and the previous owners redid all the floor with wide plank wood, but kept the original thin plank in the main hallway/entry way. I was just going to pull up the thin plank, but it's kind of growing on me. It is very beat up so I'm thinking of maybe refinishing it with a dark stain? I think it would make a nice contrast with the other wood which has a lot of different tones and colors in it.
Thanks so much Linda! Glad you are enjoying. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven’t already, and join our very valued subscriber family. 😊😊😊
I wish I could find more examples of mixing marble with travertine. I agree that using both would make a space look more interesting! I love marble but I think my space could easily be only marble if I’m not careful.
To clean pleated shades, I put a sock over the vacuum attachment. This way the suction doesn't ruin the pleats.

This may be a little over the top but I want a conservatory. Ideally, it would be attached to a stone cottage but I'm not too picky about that lol.

I think that solid wood doors for interior rooms add a sense of substance and richness, especially opposed to hollow core doors.
💯 I agree with that. Solid core doors add a luxurious and substantial feeling. I love them.
I like that somethings I have had for a long time are going to be "the next trend " . So now could you bring back doilies I like making them.

It’s funny that you mentioned tapestries bc I just found and purchased one that was hand made in France. It’s gorgeous!
Another great video. So many super ideas. I have a large tapestry in my dining room that I was thinking of changing out and now you have made me rethink it. Thanks for your design insight.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed. :)
Loving that jacket on you. I live in an old home that has three pocket doors, which we don't see that often but I love them.
Thanks so much!😊😊😊
Love watching your videos Garrett. Your different view on what ppl can have and do in their homes is so very refreshing to hear. Please always keep doing you. ❤
Thanks so much for your lovely comment Linda! Much more to come. ✨✨✨
I just purchased an antique Morris recliner off of FB marketplace. Your suggestions for using antiques and when to get them are spot on.
Thanks so much Carrie!
Ooo, I’m jealous, @Carrie Pickering! That is so cool!
Bring back the old goodies i’me here for it 🙌🏾👌🏾
Another great video, Garrett!
😊😊😊
I have used several of the talking points in this video in my home, and let me tell you, they have stood the test of time. Especially impactful are my LARGE paintings and tapestries, which really pack a wallop, visually. Drama is neither for the faint of heart nor the tiny of scale. Your content is always superb and whatever you suggest is invariably well reasoned and elegant without being stuffy or contrived. Pitch- perfect, it not only strikes the right note, but the most pleasing tone to all the senses. Your work on this channel is impeccable!
Thanks so much!
As a historical preservationist that lives in a 1911 Craftsman home that I'm currently decorating. I'm so excited for this trend.
It’s my hope and personal opinion. 😊
I appreciate your videos. You give a lot of information that can be adapted into our own personal style. Thank you
Thanks so much Laurel!
🤗🤗🤗
You always have such original, interesting & informative content. Love this for you & us ❤ Great ideas although not all of them are to my personal taste or suitable for where I live. Can’t wait to see this channel hit 100K 🙏🙏 you certainly deserve it ❗️‼️🥇🏆
You're the best! Thanks so much Sharon. 100k is a good start, and we are working hard every day. :)
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying the channel. 🤗🤗🤗
Came back to mention my continual adoration of the Rumford fireplace. Have you encountered this cool looking AND efficient design?
Thanks so much!
My husband and I found four gorgeous, navy leather French chairs in an antique shop. We’ve spread them all over the apartment. Everyone loves them too !
Yay! Sounds lovely. ✨✨✨
✨✨✨🤗✨✨✨
I enjoy your program so much! I watch every day. I would so much love to watch a design show starring YOU! At work!
Thanks Cheree! I appreciate your lovely comment very much. It’s great to have you as part of our subscriber family!😊😊😊
Sounds great Jane!
Thanks so much Lori! I'm glad you are enjoying the channel, and thank you for reading the US Sun article. :)
My daughter did some wood paneling in her new beautiful home and it looks amazing ! I thought, oh well… so glad to hear it from you. I have new wood floors on our new re done bedroom. Thank you always.
😊😊😊
I LOVE craftsman style!!
Love the Tapestry idea.
So glad!
Tiffany lamps. I adore them
Almost 60k subscribers!! Go, Garrett! On the way to 100k!! Can't wait to that day, and it won't take long 💖
Another great video, by the way. It was so entertaining.
Thanks so much Jade! It certainly is a milestone that we will be grateful for in our journey. ✨✨✨😊😊😊
Thank you Garrett!!! 👏 👏
I have the Craftsman style of furniture in my home. Tables, chairs, headboards, dressers. But I draw the line at the sofas and chairs with the
large, hard, uncomfortable wooden arms. My sofas are upholstered, comfy, with comfy arms. Seating should make you want to cozy
up, stretch out, read. I also don't care for the "Tiffany" style lighting. Too much harsh square-ness in a room. I like large art. The walls
with a multitude of pictures always looks messy to me, no one picture stands out, and there's ALWAYS something that goes crooked!
I love real vintage lamps like hurricane lamps. I have bought 3 so far,
Craftsman! Yes. Yes.
I just want to see more of your “little old man” baby puppy. I had an 18 year old Dachshund and he was the TREASURE of my life. I miss him daily and love to see Senior Dogs living their best lives.
🐶🐶🐶
I've been watching a lot of movies from 1930-1950's. The room decor tended to be way too busy for my taste, but what about those lamps and shades! Sure, some are tacky, but most were very cool looking statement pieces. The detail and texture was amazing.
I'd love to bring some stained glass into my home - there are so many styles out there to fit your home. My home was built in 1911 so I would need to do some research, but I really think stained glass is gorgeous with the light coming through and playing off the walls in the room or hallway! Excellent video today!
Thanks Gina!
😁😁😁
i want to see wrought iron come back! i like tuscan elements as well..
I was just about to rip the tapestry off my 2 story family room wall! I’ve been bingeing on your videos and am another person who appreciates your love of vintage…. And dogs! & ps I’m a subscriber. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Welcome to the channel. It's great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. :)
I love texture walls not the popcorn ceilings but the ones that are smooth. I would love for that to be back… thanks for sharing 😮
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Lois! Something to consider.
😊😊😊
I have ALWAYS loved Craftsman style. My dream house is a Craftsman bungalow.
Garrett hi! Iove love the way you decorate! I’m so happy I found you!!
My grandma had a pink and black bathroom. I loved it.
That’s awesome!😊😊😊
Thanks so much for sharing, I really appreciate that your style is so versatile and you’re more concerned with what works for your customer as opposed to what’s on trend!
Thanks so much!
And also chenille upolstery
Loving your content so much❤️
Oversized art is something I really want to incorporate in my decor. Also, as a European, the arch windows are something that I can see that is definitely coming back 🙏
Awesome! Thank you! Glad you are enjoying Liliana. Please take a moment if you haven't already to support the channel, and become a very valued subscriber.
Another great video! 👍
Thanks so much Fatima!
I love Craftsman too!❤️
Hello Beautiful LeChic Family ❣️
I love this video 💯
Craftsman is my absolute favorite style in a home! Love that you mentioned this style & Yes.. it should be brought back! Everything you mentioned is right in line with what I love about following your channel. Big smiles 😁.
Oh yes...That's my Designer!
Until next time. Hugs xx
Thank you so much 🤗
Just moved into a new house and the previous owners redid all the floor with wide plank wood, but kept the original thin plank in the main hallway/entry way. I was just going to pull up the thin plank, but it's kind of growing on me. It is very beat up so I'm thinking of maybe refinishing it with a dark stain? I think it would make a nice contrast with the other wood which has a lot of different tones and colors in it.
I absolutely love you.
You are always on point.
Thanks so much for sharing, and watching Brianna! Please take a moment to support the channel, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
Great content. Love the jacket!
Thanks!
Another great video! The best fireplace I ever saw was in a house built by an artist - it was made from a huge mixer tank from a cement mixer truck
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed.
LOVE CRAFTSMAN HOMES!! GREAT VIDEO
Thanks for watching!
This was awesome. I have to watch it again. :)
