That whole Dreamcast Era was filled with experimental 3D philosophies. To see old-school developers pull something off that's fun to play and looks as stylized as this, is just badass. I'd say a bit more, but *
This is literally the video I’ve waited for your entire channel to make quite possibly one of my most fondest childhood memories. For whatever reason(absolutely no idea guess they were fans) my local take out spot growing up had a zombie revenge cabinet and it was glorious. I appreciate the Dreamcast version but there always a special place in my heart for that zombie game with the Afro guy while I ordered food.
Loved this game, regularly co-oped it with a friend, managed to complete it after many attempts. I remember playing the mini game included in the Dreamcast memory card. It was a tamagotchi style thing, that unlocked a mode to change the in game blood from green to red. Fun times.
@@EternityVoid_ Home consoles is mainly what I was talking about in my initial comment. Since that time though, at least there's been the remake(s). Guarantee they leave out Zombie Revenge though, even if they shouldn't.
This game was/is incredible. I feel blessed to have been able to experience playing it around the time it came to the states thanks to the Dreamcast. ❤️
This was flames!!! I played this in the arcade and was blown away. It reminded me of fighting force, die hard arcade, new age beatem up. Its crazy how companies just killed their own properties. Underrated classic imo
One of Sega’s numerous errors in judgement is on full display here. They were fervently clinging to the arcade model at a time when the industry was evolving past it. A lot of their Dreamcast titles were flashy, but not at all balanced or that fun to play in the long term.
Thanks for this blast from the past! Ah... The memories... All of House of the Dead’s goofiness and unforgettable voice acting in a beat ‘em up game. Shame they didn’t persevere. A little bit of trivia: the PAL version of the game was notoriously bad due to unresponsive controls (even with the Arcade Stick) and a rather poor frame rate. Much later I got the Japanese version and it was a completely new game! Fast, responsive and fun. Bad 50Hz port I guess. Have you tried « Sword of the Berserk: Guts’ Rage »?
As many have pointed out, this game is a spin -off of the house of the dead ,not only has a lot of references and sound effects but even an entire level is based on it(with the same soundtrack of The house of the dead). This game is quite weird but very fun and has a lot of cool stuff like secret areas that one must search, awesome special moves that are a little hard to pull off(at least for me) and the same "remarkable" voice acting from THOTD.A neat detail during the fight with the first boss, it is possible to pull-off the pipe that is piercing him. To give some some explanation about the poison effect, it just make the player slower but at same time more powerful and gives access to other special attacks if i remember correctly.getting the antidote removes the effects. A little fun fact, Busujima from this game appears in Proyect x zone but wears his alt costume.
When I first discovered the Recast emulator and how well the Dreamcast games ran compared to NullDC or Chankast back in the day, this was the first game I booted up! Still love this game! Would be cool if SEGA decided to remaster this game similar to how Forever Entertainment did for Panzer Dragon, and the upcoming remakes of The House of the Dead 1&2!
To any Chicagoland folks this was the joint at matsons western steak and grill along sunset riders and johnny action hero and i think police shooting training
Judging by the title I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets house of the dead x streets of rage vibes from this and you know what its awesome that this game exists cause hotd and streets of rage are 2 of my favorite Sega franchises
Ah yes, Stick Breitling. One of the members of that famed list of "Character Names Trying Way Too Hard To Sound Cool", right alongside Edge Maverick and Jet Brody.
Hey Matt, if possible, try Demolished Fist next. Also done on Sega's Naomi Arcade board. There was never a home port, so you'll have to use a 3D arcade emulator. If your PC is not powerful enough, that is okay.
I'm surprised how poorly the emulation runs. This game normally doesn't have those flashing lights and runs at a smooth 60 fps. The lower framerate doesn't show how great this game and its animations look. Zombie Revenge is so much fun. Wish it was 4 player instead of 3 player though.
Unluckily sega Dreamcast emulation in general is not that good, which is sad. I remember in 2010 trying Demul for the first time on my crappy PC and Dead or Alive and Soul Calibur looked and played really good for a 2010 emulator compared to other emulators. Better off playing the games on a real DC.
I remember playing this in the arcade once when I was in middle school it was next to Marvel Vs Capom 2 machine. But I remember I laughed really hard when zombies with guns showed up it is so silly but in a awesome way.
I wonder if that flashing light effect happened in the arcades too so the game would cause a seizure so you couldn't beat it while simultaneously wasting your quarters
I don’t need a Dreamcast Classic with the best selling games of it’s lifetime; I need all the insaneo, B-Movie horror efforts that made it to the console.
I always saw this game at my arcade back in the day. It was next to CarnEvil. I was but a babby ultrayoshi at the time so I avoided it like the plague and went to play MvC1
I forget, but I think you power of your shots increases the longer you hesitate to fire. Also I know you can pull off some hype moves, been so long since I played the game, but it has a weird sort of hype to it.
Is there time, though? Real talk, I had no idea this game existed and it's cool to see what could have potentially been a legitimate direction for the beat 'em up genre. Obviously, there's some jank, but it doesn't look like anything that couldn't be refined.
Sega probably sold all of its arcade origins to cut ties with the Yakoozers. Great video Matt, never actually played this one, always saw it at blockbuster but never picked it up
I don't believe Panzer Dragoon was on the Dreamcast. PD Orta was rumored to have been originally planned as a DC game but became an XBox exclusive instead.
Wish there's a beat em up collection of this game, dynamite deka series and spike out for Nintendo switch port including physical release.. that would be awesome.. and also Ray schmup series of raycrisis , rayforce and raystorm..

I wish Sega would re-ignite the flame on this series. Remasters, remakes, more games. I don't care, just give it to us Sega!
House of the Dead is still going. Scarlet Dawn came out in 2018

Facts, they kept the credits model and it backfired in the long run. Sad but true. Gotta adjust and make solid games.
Zombie Revenge is like the most generic video game title, I could easily see something like Regular Show using that title as a joke
This was one of our favorite games back in the day lol
I love it when Matt tries to talk but keeps getting interrupted by a game's craziness.

If you reach the mansion the part its oretty obvious its a spoof version of the curien mansion, even the original theme plays but its remixed
That opening song is great.

I saw this game at my local arcade inside a bowling alley every day after school in 01.
The green circle if you let it get red the shoot will do way way more damage and one-shot most zombies.
