Either 5:52 or 5:53 when Wheely big cheese flipping Axe-awe Both really extremely high and out of the arena? 😮 WHAT?!?! Gravity Destroying the arena while attacking Hydra? HOLY HELL!!! Plus Don’t ever mess with Matilda or she’ll make you begging for mercy.
11:10 - This is way more frightening than it looks. That's just from sheer SPINNING force, not by a powerful co2 flipper. Razer pushed Matilda to come back as a far more terrifying beast.
I remember a VERY old video. Very much like this one, being an OOTA compilation. Jonathan Pierce said "That's come down with snow on it!", Then the video cut to a black screen which said "really Jonathan?" And then cut to a group dancing. This is very, Very old, so if anyone can find it is be absolutely shocked
Sterling job! Extended commentary, all clips included, correct aspect ratios, perfect work - I was commentating all of the preboot UK flips as I was watching them, and hearing the surrounding commentary as I went!
@@bossboymarroquin5775 I believe they are. Bear in mind that the final episode of robot wars' original run was in 2004, meaning that his children are 17 years older than shown in this video.
I think a large part of that is the width of the flipper. Chaos 2 has a wide flipper, which is great for easily getting under a robot with little trouble, but Stinger has those two big wheels and a pretty narrow gap between them. Chaos 2's wide flipper is just wide enough to be able to get under without catching the wheels. Thermidor 2, however, has a pretty narrow flipper, allowing it to get to the body between Stinger's wheels, letting them flip Stinger out rather more successfully
I'm more impressed by the power of Thermidor 2's flipper because it was able to send Behemoth out of the arena, the same robot who was too heavy for Sir Killalot to carry
Wow after keeping a OOTA Count of every robot in this and you don't count House Robots (as obviously Killalot has most OOTA's) the actually participating in the Wars robot with most OOTA's is Dantomkia at 9, I actually never realized that before!
I don't count Killalot picking up a disabled robot one-third its weight and dropping it over the side as a legitimate OOTA. I don't even count Matilda's flywheel shots, for the same reason - Matilda is much heavier than the competing bots.
Thanks, this looks good. The amazing thing about Robot Wars is that just when you think you know everything about it, you will still come across some battle you haven't seen or some obscure robot you haven't heard of!
@@jacobwigley I'd actually argue the later classic years of Robot Wars were the best years of any robot combat on a rounded level. There were multiple types of machine that thrived (spinners, flippers, Razer was arguably off-meta but it won one series and should have had another), and there were plenty of more amateur hobbyist roboteers who came in with all sorts of designs from the silly to the solid. And the storylines were embraced and done very well, IMO the Extreme series helped out for this even though they were basically exhibition fights. Battlebots is a succession of big-money beast machines, and I find it less enjoyable as a show whilst also seeing it as the top level of roboteering. In fact, my biggest problem with the Robot Wars revival was that it just felt like a Battlebots second division at times, as the balance tipped far enough towards well-funded professionalism to lose some charm.
I have never been sure how I feel about the Chaos 2 vs Firestorm fight. On one hand, it established the main tactic for flippers from that point forward. If this battle had never happened, the spinners would have taken over much earlier as more bots were able to self right. On the other hand, Firestorm was an amazing bot, and did not deserve to be the first bot to be flipped out of the arena.
We sort-of saw that with the post-Series 4 special episode War Of Independence. Both Rammstein and FrenZy made appearances, but while Rammstein crashed out in the first round due to weight and battery issues, FrenZy made it all the way to the final... ... only to be felled by, of all machines, Mortis!
Seeing both the older UK series and the more recent BBC reboot really does highlight just how wrong they got it (in my opinion) when they brought it back. No atmosphere whatsoever compared to the original. I think they should have just rebuilt the original arena, used the same lighting cues, intense metal/jungle/breakbeat music throughout and also brought back Craig Charles.
Chaos 2 records First robot win two titles First robot to flip out another First robot to Flip out 2 Robots First robot to flip out 3 robots First robot to flip out 4 robots First robot to flip out 5 robots
No, Sergeant Bash wasn't flipped out in the Flipper Frenzy. Chaos 2, Bigger Brother and Thermidor 2 (Wheely Big Cheese was already immobilised down the other end of the arena) tried, but they couldn't use a combined attack from the right angle. Still, Bash's flamethrower did get all but broken off upon hitting the top of the wall, to the point it was hanging by a thread.
They were, they just weren't insanely meta like they are now, Hypno Disk was arguably the best spinner bot during the early series, both UK & US, but they didn't have the success that Firestorm & Chaos 2 did Now you have bots like Carbide that show just how devastating the spinners have become But back in the early wars, they weren't as powerful, even Chaos 2 & Wheely Big Cheese compared to modern bots seems anemic. Spinners seem to be the ultimate bot weapon but when flippers work, they simply steal the show from everyone else.
Sounds about right. (For the UK.)
They're also less dangerous than spinners whilst still being impressive, which is why they were the absolute foundation of the touring arena shows.

Chaos 2 was like a fixed point in time for UK Robot Combat.
Surely being the first robot out is kind of an honour?
It all came down to just how good a driver Chaos 2 had. Similar to Razer and Pussycat both having among the best drivers in the whole of Robot Wars.
