Episode Notes:
1. Captured on real hardware.
2. This uses a number of sound effects and music tracks from the first HotD game.
3. A Playstation 2 version was planned but canceled.
4. The Typing of the Dead and Pinball of the Dead were also spinoffs of HotD.
5. This game is much easier with 2 players. - Игры
The dreamcast era was truly a special era in gaming. Glad I experienced it
Bought my Dreamcast using layaway at walmart. Took 1 month, but I managed to pay it off.
Played Blue Stinger, Code Veronica, Seventh Cross, both Sonic Adventure 1 & 2
That whole 6th gen is still the APEX in console generations!
Yes the 6th gen is the last gen before patches and dlc took over.
Not forgettable for me😁
@@acardenasjr1340 I remember that summer. I worked odds and ends jobs all summer to save up the 199 and for sonic adventure. Then I gave my money to my dad who picked it up for me and had it waiting in the van when I got home from school. It was an amazing day
Me and my best friend played this game for days. We mastered it and beat it on the hardest setting. Love this game
Instead of House of the Dead, Forever Entertainment should have remade Zombie Revenge instead. The Thouse of the Dead Remake is a chore to play without any Lightgutn while playing Zombie Revenge with traditional controls works absolutely well.
you and you boyf
@@TheAufziehvogel
Yeah House of the Dead remake makes me sad. The game that needed some way to basically play with light guns or something and there just isn't anything. Not even pointer controls or whatever with the switch. Yes I would have totally preferred Zombie Revenge.
No one cares.
Bullshit this dam game was undefeatedable. The last stage you had to refight all the bosses up to that point and the main boss.
My buddy made me play this and I wasn't interested. And then we wound up playing it for months. Love it.
This is truly a hidden gem. I absolutely loved this game when it came out. It is one of my favorites and I still have my original copy today.
One zombie game on the Dreamcast that deserves more recognition is “Carrier.”
I love that game and feel like it deserves a SLX review.
Carrier😎 👍
I have to admit that I think the title is incredibly clever. It takes place on a "carrier" and it's about infected "carriers" of some kind of virus.
I mean it's not as catchy as The House of the Dead and resident evil but it is clever.
It was an awesome game. The double entendre, the swaying ship. I feel like there was a sequel or similar game at that time too that was alright.
@@nak3dxsnake I think you mean that game on the OG Xbox called “Cold Fear.”
@nak3dxsnake there was gonna a sequel called the next mutation it had 10 sec teaser and screen shots but it was caned
When the Sega Dreamcast released in 1999 I bought it day one. and zombie revenge was one of my first game I played 🥺 I love this game nostalgia is at all time high 😄
This is my favorite Dreamcast game. Fantastic game that is still unfortunately overlooked today. Glad you are covering it!
I had it a couple years ago it was probably sold off by my uncle it's a shame I collect a lot of good games and for some reason they're gone
Really? Your favorite? I don’t even believe you. This was like a quick 20$ budget title that took like 20 minutes to beat. I remember playing it in between SF Alpha 3 and Sonic Adventure 2 when I needed a pallet cleanser.
@@ItsClodsire I brought mine at Space cats for $15 and it was used but it was not scratched it was brand new looking
@@ItsClodsire believe what you want, but it’s the game I come back to over and over again more than any other Dreamcast game. It’s just fun.

I wanted this game for years and years and finally picked it up a few months ago. Man I love the Dreamcast.
to me this is THE most underrated beat'em up. Its still one of the dreamcast games i regularly pop on.
I never knew about the desperation attack until your review and I have played this so many times. Love this game
This was a great spin-off. Always fun listening to the announcer saying 'boolets'
I came here looking for a comment like this and was clearly not disappointed. lol
My brother and I can be heard shouting boolets online occasionally. So glad to see others enjoyed this weird little aspect of the game.
THERE'S NO TIME
Anytime I grab anything... BOOLETS.
Pipe
I had this back in the day. Had a lot of fun with it. Sometimes you just want a game where you kill some zombies.
I know you’ll talk about Zombie Revenge on the Dreamcast. Whoever thought about making a game where you go punching and kicking zombies to the face is an absolute genius.
It was hardly the first game like that. Night Slashers was a beat 'em up with zombies and it came out on the arcades in 1993 ;).
This game had so much replayability. Dynamite Cop was another one.
I absolutely loved this game back in the day and played it a lot on my Dreamcast.
Love this guy narration and sega content.. time just flies by watching your stuff brotha! 👍
I love that the figure 4 leg luck causes massive bleeding.
I remember getting this game along with Mario Party 3. What a time when you could buy a n64 game and a Dreamcast game at the same time at GameStop. I liked this game, I remember popping it in often since it was a quick play. THERES NO TIME!
Bought this game on release. Remember having my mom call GameStop asking if they knew how to make the blood red instead of green lol. Still have it. Never beat it. Was only a year ago that I burned a Codebreaker disc, finally after 23 yrs got the blood to turn red, with unlimited continues, able to beat it. Looking at this review was like wtf, how did you do the figure four and pull out that bar from the first boss and beat him with it?? This game has so many lil secrets.
I still remember how much fun I had with my brother playing this game, that was back 2X years ago, man, how desperate I hope to get back to those good old times
Love this game, I remember playing this when I was a teenager. It was so over the top and the grind house vibe is on check with this. Thanks for the awesome video!
Oh man, I remember seeing this super occasionally in the arcade. For some reason I never got it for my DC back in the day. Man, I need this game.
Loved this game and Dynamite Cop !!
This game looks awesome!!! Wish they would give it the remaster treatment and rerelease it...
Oh my how i love this game.... This was like everyday play game that i need to do when i was young. Such a fun mindless wacky zombie 3rd person game!
Absolutely loved this game. I played 2 player with my brother and we had a blast each time.
My favorite beat 'em up on the Dreamcast. It is challenging and a near perfect port of the arcade classic.
Ahhh, great memories and glad to know there's more of you guys out that shared these 👍👍👍
Thank you! Ive been looking for more info on the VMU elements and you covered it very well!
When the Dreamcast was discontinued, I picked this game up on the cheap. Never heard of it but had a lot of fun beating it with my wife. Really fun game!
This game is a banger. Needs to be re released
And also dynamite deka series too
The guy putting a zombie in a figure four leglock is comedy gold. 😂
Awesome review! I really enjoyed this episode! I never knew about this title it was great to see! Awesome job SLX!
I can't believe it took you this long to review this awesome gem
This game was the bomb during Christmas 99. I always played as Detective Afroman
A favorite of mine on the dreamcast. I have the term "bullets" imbedded" into my brain to this day
When they got on the helicopter before South union railway, me and my buddy always joked that the zombie that fell out was Busujima...lol
I miss that game❤❤❤
I remember my friend having a Dreamcast and seeing this game.
Man I miss Sega.
Back in the early 2000s (I would say 03 or 04) a friend and I went on a hard Dreamcast binge, hitting up all the various second hand shops picking up any and all titles we found. While we definitely played a lot of Zombie Revenge all that actually stuck with me was the constant announcer voices saying "Bullets!" or "There's no time!". Still I love the genre and do recall we had a blast playing it even if the details are lost.
Found some great titles during that time, some stuff that I really remember enjoying were the more bizarre stuff. The Spawn game was weird but neat and I absolutely adored Maken X.
In early 2000 I used to compare the train stage in Zombie Revenge to the train stage in The Bouncer on a PS2 preview VHS tape to see what one looked better.
Also Desperado guns made me smile when I was shooting the Zombies lol.
Not sure if it's just the nostalgia from an early 3D arcade beat-em up shooter, but I sank SO many hours into this game with my brothers back in the day. Was definitely one of my favorite Dreamcast titles and seeing this review makes me want to go back and play it again. I remember having so much fun with all the different weapons you can find throughout the game.
Zombie Revenge is one of my favorite games of all time. I love the theme and b-movie story, and once you master the gameplay, it is an absolute old school joy to play. I have played through this game thousands of times over 20+ years, and it holds a strong place in my all time gaming memories.
Played this in the arcade briefly before it released on Dreamcast and had tons of great memories playing this with friends! One of my favorite games on the console!
A fun review to kick off the Halloween season 🎃🎃🎃
I got this for Christmas back in the day the combos hold attacks are cool and the the charge punch attacks
This is one of my favorites that I got a copy of in the last couple years, it is short yes but I don't know anything from Sony or Nintendo quite like it. Hoping to see reviews for Maken X, not many games are first person and melee focused even now and that's another unique favorite of mine
this game has -always- ben one of my favorite dreamcast games- lord is it ruthless when you get to the final boss, but honestly its that kind of game you just instantly want to play again and again \o/
I remember bringing my Dreamcast home on 9.9.99. When I started up Soul Calibur for the first time, I audibly said "holy shit". I got into a little bit of trouble with my mom, who heard me from the next room. I still feel that way today.
I did play a little bit of DC Zombie Revenge, definitely a fun one! Neat to see them do something else in the HOTD universe.
This looks so fun and these typical dreamcast/sega grahpics.. just perfect
I remember I had this game back in the dreamcast hey days. The cheap enemies definitely marred the enjoyment a bit but i remember playing this with my dad. Despite going to the house of the dead stage i didnt realize this was a tie in game!
Great comparison, I was thinking the same thing with Dynamite Cop-Die Hard and House of the Dead!
Zombie Revenge: the game where you can play as Troy Baker in a teal shirt and punch zombies.
The greatest beat em up of all time. I remember going to Vegas to play this at the Gameworks there. When it was ported to Dreamcast, it was an absolute must have.
Just set up a terraonion MODE with the Dreamcast. Such a fun system!
Definitely one of those "dumb fun" type of games. My enjoyment came mostly from joking around about the terrible voice acting and overall silliness of the plot with friends, the game itself was just downright frustrating to play especially after the Factory stage. We played on an emulator and I think the final boss took us like 10 continues to get through it.
I loved the "Boo'lets" voice sample.
One of my favorites on the Sega Dreamcast. Always loved Sega for the great arcade titles!
"BOOLITS.. BOOLITS.. THERE'S NO TIME! THERE'S NO TIME! BOOLITS.."
Love this game!
What a coincidence- picked this up last week! Lots of fun…
Dude, I've been trying to figure out the name of this game for a long time. I played this on a trip to Vegas back in the day. Thank you!!!
Your footage is so crisp and clean, may i ask what is your setup to play Dreamcast games on modern hd tvs?
I was just playing this game again last week. Had alot of fun too.😄
Despite the fact that the movement in this game, might be a bit clunky, and a slight bit wonky. And of course, the weird bugs in the game, as mentioned in this vid. I still have alot of fun playing Zombies Revenge. It's definitely a fun cool game. Now we need a sequel. It's long overdue.
Back in the days I would never spend full price on a game like this. first off, I didn't have a lot of money back then, and secondly, when you could get games like Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue for the same price point as an arcade game, it was a tough sell to the average gamer, I always felt that these games were made for the "die hard arcade fans" out there. However, I did love them and I remember buying Dynamite Cop on second hand and having a blast with it in the company of friends. I am glad these game exist today, because they offer a lot of fun, and experiences that are really hard to get by today.
Beautiful arcade days
Great Game, i remenber beating the arcade with one credit with a friend, good memories.
I had fun with it back when it came out. Damn, I miss those days!
Zombie Revenge was one of the original three games I bought the day I bought my system (Crazy Taxi and Soul Reaver being the other two). I loved it then, and I still love it now. “Boolits. Boolits. Boolits.”
I just played through this on my Naomi for the first time a few months ago, then played Project X Zone shortly after and was impressed they included a character from it.
Good stuff, I picked up Zombie Revenge around the time it was released and had a blast with the game. The gameplay is fun and the presentation is part of its charm. I wish I spent more time with the game, thankfully I still own my copy and check it out once I hook my DC back up.
THANK YOU SEGA LORD X FOR CHOOSING MY RECOMMENDED GAME from the reloaded video ! I absolutely loved this game and holds alot of nostalgia, it's not a perfect game but it's just spike out with house of the dead ....I didn't need anything more from a game than that in 1998. This was my first system I bought myself at the then age of 17 with my first paid job and I used to play it for hours before going out clubbing. Was genuinely really happy you chose my suggestion out of thousands, you've mad a man very happy today.
I love this game :) first played it in the arcades and now have it for my DC. Janky but very underrated. I’ll take it over Dynamite Cop any day
Absolutely LOVED Zombie Revenge! I remember getting it the Christmas it released, my friends and I stayed up all night and were constantly cracking up at how the announcer said EVERY SINGLE ITEM you picked up. We'd see each other in the hallways at school the following week and as we passed by would just say "Boooolets" "Yaaaantidote" "THERE'S NO TIME". Still have my disc in mint condition.
it's stupid campy fun ported from an Arcade. If you don't like that, you won't like this. I do, though.
I used to love this game back in 2000
Wow, just thought of this the other day. That "bullets" really sticks out in my mind and I couldn't recall the name. I played the heck out of this with my friends in the day. Not exactly sure what it was, but something with the controls was very frustrating for me. Maybe picking up items?
The game also had one of the best named protagonist Stick Breitling.
I used to laugh at that name before I was introduced to the Palin family in 2008
Perfect way to kick off October
great vid. Never knew about such a spinoff
Cheat codes can unlock costumes for all 3 players as well as the extra game modes 👍 Great review! Definitely a fun title 🎮
I remember back in 2011 when I started college I decided to take and packed up my Dreamcast I remember getting it a 10 years old for sonic adventure then later for 2 and I had a couple more games not to many but cherished it!! were it was my first console I saved up for mowing yards I was sad when it was discontinued but my Uncle in like 2004 gave me a crap ton of games were GameStop was trying to get rid of the leftover Dreamcast stock and when I got to my dorm I play some of them games I had a Xbox and just stop playing my Dreamcast for a while but I loaded that puppy up and zombie revenge was one of them gems I pulled out and everyone got word in our dorm hall about us playing this old ass Dreamcast and then before we knew it every Friday we would play something and the dorm would be stacked with people playing playing house of the dead gauntlet legends confidential mission ahh good times your video made me remember man plus I still have good friends out of the experience
I had no idea this game existed but I love the concept of it.
I definitely want to give it a try
I was just getting an itch for a new Dreamcast game and wasn't quite sure what to go for..Zombie Revenge it is! Thanks broski!
I had no idea this had ties to HOTD. I passed on it back then. Never so much as a rental. Not sure I'd put it in today but my interest is definitely higher given it's background.
When I bought a modified Dreamcast several months ago, this is the first game I played. It was sorely missed all those years I didn't have that system, and zombie revenge is one of the best games on the dreamcast
This is one of the best games that was released on the dreamcast had plenty fun with this game especially the co op ✌🏿
Cool beans, this is the first time that Ive ever seen somone review this specific game.
Really good port from the arcade on the DC IMO. Your review are accurate with my felling back in the day. I love to play some arcade fun on my DC. I remember be charmed by the visual and mix gameplay shooting and beat'n'up style, and also dissapointed by the difficulty and some level got a really unpleasant design, sewer for exemple where i lost many life and continue and compromise to go further. Each time I try, i lost my last continue almost always on the same boss or level and the game finally become frustrating.
I remember enjoying this more than I had thought I had any right to
Another to add to the list then, looks cool
Ah ha! I was looking for this game. Glad someone posted a video of it.
i feel like this gameplay should be a standard akin to beat em ups and shoot em up games.
this is just epic.
Did you get the HDMI mod for your Dreamcast? Picture looks great.
Gekko HDMI box plus a mClassic for the 1080p upscale. So far it's been a real winner for 3D games on the DC.
I loved this gane, I''ll have to get it again for my Dreamcast.
This game is a fairly good hack and slash when in two player mode. The different review scores that sites and mags gave probably had a lot to do with whether the game was played with one or two players.
I didn't know this had come out on the dreamcast, dang. I loved it in the arcade. Never realized it had anything to do with the House of the Dead though, heh.
Love this game, just a fun time overall and a blast with the multiplayer.
One of my favourite DC game I enjoyed it back then and now
I think out of all the beatem ups I've played, my favorites would be Double Dragon 2, Turtles in Time, Maximum Carnage, and The Two Towers. DD2 was great co op action, Turtles was fun all around, Carnage I loved the art and it was difficult. But I really liked The Two Towers, I was a huge LOTR fan. The game was hard and your hands were tired by the time you made it through all the enemies. Performing well earned you power up and more experience for the upgrades. Legolas was my favorites because his ranged attack could be leveled up the most but I liked Aragorn too. I was shocked how good it was considering it was a licensed game and made b EA. I never played the follow up but I heard it was good too.
I had this game back then. I really enjoyed it and if I remember correctly it had the house of the dead 2 sound effects. My wish is Sega would return to the hardware market someday.
one of my favorite Dreamcast games!
