    Episode Notes:
    1. Most footage captured on real Dreamcast hardware(Redream used for Bomberman Online and the Tetris games).
    2. Many of these games appeared on other platforms like the PC, Playstation, and N64. If you liked the look of something but don't own a DC, look at the other platforms of the era.
    3. This is one area that I really wish Sega had focused on their own IP's. A Dreamcast Outrun, a Dreamcast Shinobi, and a Dreamcast Streets of Rage could have had so much potential.

      I really do think they're trying to make something that can actually run either Saturn or Dreamcast games decently and be able to put it in a console that doesn't cost $250 or more. Its really crazy to think that these remakes of older games are now older than the originals where when they came out at this time i did not even consider anything made after 1985 as retro yet because they where still putting out 8 bit games on handhelds like the game boy colour but now i see even dreamcast and ps1 games as retro.

    • @JohnDoe-wq5eu
      @JohnDoe-wq5eu Год назад

      Things feel more retro everyday because technology has moved so far and so fast in the last two decades. Also Dreamcast and original PlayStation games feel incredibly old archaic now because so many things have changed on a basic level with games. Dreamcast games are in that awkward time right before everything was going to change. So some stuff was amazing and has held up well and some stuff looks and plays horrible like an old PlayStation game.

    Gauntlet legends was one of the reasons I wanted a DC in the early 2000s. About a year ago, I was finally able to play through the game completely and finish it. The DC was such a good system that was just a victim of the times and competition.

    The Dreamcast came out in an interesting time some of it stuff is absolutely ahead of the curve and holds up incredibly well some better than modern games in some cases.
    And some games were definitely during that growing pains period when games were changing and evolving and it was in an awkward phase that they came out of during the PS2, Xbox and GameCube era.
    It's fun to look back on but some of it is incredibly difficult to play again just because how archaic it feels compared to modern games.

      yeah, a lot of multiplatform titles that ended up on the Dreamcast look like shoddy ports from the original Playstation. I think that's partly the reason why people considered the Dreamcast "underpowered" compared to the PS2 and other sixth generation consoles.

    • @JohnDoe-wq5eu

      The problem was the Dreamcast barely had a chance to really spread it's wings. The PS2 got plenty of time to fully tap every bit of potential whereas the Dreamcast was given I think it was about 2 years at most on the market before being dropped.
      But yeah as has been mentioned by SLX in the past one of the worst things they did with a lot of ports to the Dreamcast was simply take a PlayStation game and do minor improvements to either frame rate or usually just the graphics themselves and then plop them out at full price.
      A real disservice for a console that deserved better.

    Sega Lord , can you please make a video about what you would like to see included with a Dreamcast Mini. I think must have features are updated VMU's to include color screen, lithium battery and wifi / bluetooth. Have the Dreamcast sit on top of a HDD like it was designed to do . And have it come with Lan Port. So gamers can connect to a Sega Online Storefront. To buy and download new games to the consoles internal hard drive. Have different bundles like the black sports model. But also have a Phantasy Star themed one also. Or a fishing bundle with that comes with the Rod.

    I really enjoy your content. I did PC gaming for the longest time. Then the Dreamcast came out. I really feel that this was the first 3D console that didn't bug my eyes out. Keep in mind I didn't play anything from the Saturn. It was less money than a Voodoo card, and it looked equal or better. I really wish there was a world which would allow the PS2 and the Dreamcast to exist together.
    I still have my DC, and I still play it. I'd really like to mod it so I can use an SD or hard drive. I bought one of the newer controllers for it, and it's easier to play. My nostalgia goggles still see some of the games graphics to have held up well with time.
    Keep making them cuz I'll keep watching them!

      Hey no judgment here, to quote the SNES drunk you gotta play games anyway you can. I would honestly be more surprised if you were playing it on original hardware at this point.

    • @cd5sircoupe
      @cd5sircoupe Год назад

      @@JohnDoe-wq5eu I prefer original hardware when possible. With the DC, I've got close to 10 systems and about 30+ games, a lot of them heavy hitters. Unfortunately, much of the titles I'm looking for I'd consider myself priced out of at this point unless i get lucky in the wild. Take Cannon Spike as one example, I'm not paying $400 for that even though I really want it. By comparison New Nightmare averages like $75 right now which is still a bit much until I know I like it.
      So that said, when my first ever original DC gdrom died, I went with a no expense spared build on it. The only original component is the Naomi motherboard, and I guess the controller board but I did the battery & cap mod to that. I even went the extra mile and got the Dreamport psu with built-in bluetooth, Dreamconn BT controllers, and backlit VMU. Might as well go balls to the wall right?
      Either way, I have one Sega Sports that plays every game I own and the rest of my consoles all read about 80% of my games, and it's always the same games that have trouble despite looking like new.

    Worth of note is the fact that prior to Frogger 2 there actually was Frogger 3D (aka Returns) in 1997. Its way harder than the sequel. I like how it does dare to throw at you quite a challenge: are you BAD enough to save the President? 🤔 errrr, I meant to say: are you up to rescuing those kidnapped froggies of yours?
    A little bit of trivia: right after the second Frogger game, its devs - Blitz Games Studio - created another frogger-like hopper - Zapper the cricket, which unlike its inspirator, could defend itself quite well
