He turned a 6/8 sample into 4/4. Those of us who know… know. That’s impressive.
explain im confused
Facts bro I hate when samples are 6/8 or 3/4 but it does make you more creative because you have to do like Ye did and choose different parts to chop and make it sound good
@@RayhanFUT it’s in a different count. The sample is not in the standard 4/4, meaning 4 beats in one bar. So it’s difficult to make a beat in 4/4 using a sample in 3/4. You have to get creative to link it up or chop it up to fit nicely.
If you think this is something, look up how Nas Is Like was made, that was insane

That’s Rudy Acosta, at the time founder of Legion Records out of Chicago. This is Kanye making a beat for Do or Die for there first album on his label. A few years later he was convicted of being a large narcotics dealer throughout the city of Chicago so my guess is just a very different kind of energy then that of Kanye the artist.
He’s a robot
It takes a deep level of understanding to flip 6/8 into 4/4 and make it sound this natural
As a producer I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video for inspiration as a teen.
Reading that is inspirational to me now as 33 year old female who's been the only bonafide hip hop head in every friendgroup I've had. I remember seeing this video when it came out (have paid the price in my playlist from 11 years ago) and thinking I will be a music producer one day.

Bro you friends with her??
Kanye may be egotistic but he is hands down one of the best producers of all time
you say that like its a bad thing?
nah, more like the opposite... he is like one of the best rappers of all time but his production is average
AzzWalk What? It’s the opposite bro.
AzzWalk AVERAGE?? Bruh you haven’t listened to his first 5 albums then, especially MBDTF
I doubt he actually produces the songs. Most rapper-producers often use ghost writers to actually produce the song. If he was really so good why is he more famous as a rapper than a producer? His first few albums were great because of his rapping and lyrics not for the music. MBDTF had some good songs but the production credits list Mike Dean and Jeff Bhasker as producers alongside Kanye so really I think it's those two who made the beats. Kanye is known for rapping because he is good at it, production behind-the-scenes is just name-sake. They put his name on the credits because he wanted to be there.
He is a strange one but he’s produced some of the best rap songs ever as well as making his own. Amazing
as fucked up as it is I've observed that mentally ill people on average make better music, or atleast people with different brain chemistry. for example, kanye's bipolar disorder results in his switchy music that does not always remain consistent. Rappers like X have ADHD which results in him using several different voices in the same song (proudcatowner)
Thomas Edison was a bit strange too....and look how you're able to light your house up.
@@UncleSwell707*Nikola Tesla...but go off

KANYE WEST IS A GENIUS.
every Really? Seriously?! Making beats online forces you to give up the control you have over to rely on Internet scripts and they ain't often that very reliable. Now I know DT has been out a few years now, so I suppose it's a bit better nowadays. However the quality of the samples they provide ain't of the best quality.
In Kanyes case, theres a VERY thin line between Artistic and AUTISTIC...

Yep, apparently sampling is 'stealing'... to them at least
its because most people don't go hunting youtube to actually see the production thats put into making music. that's where the real musicianship comes out

Reality Boat I mean yeah but modern technology isn’t really a good metric to what constitutes a “good producer” today. This was back when graduation was about to drop, the sampling techniques and ideas he pulled off here was pretty difficult for back then. By all metrics, Kanye is still a genius.
I'm pretty sure 9th Wonder could do this
People who complain about Ye sampling must not know shit about hip hop...
@trill drill a lot of people who act like they know hip hop discredit him for how much he samples
WeirdozChannel actually people do. When people who don’t know shit about hip hop see the original song from a sample they get pissed and shit and say it’s stealing. Like the Mask Off thing where that video of someone showing how they sampled that civil rights song and made it into Mask Off. I don’t really care for that song but people were accusing Future of stealing when it’s a fucking sample. Producers have to pay for these to be used. Its hip hop and all of hip hop is samples
the man in this video no longer exists
Watchin someone create and be so happy doin it just gives me the biggest grin. He's a national treasure whether people wanna admit it or not
Even Ye' has problems with samples from time to time. That's nice to know because sampling aint the easiest thing in the world.
+Rap Blakwardz I thought the 'problem' is that he can't/doesn't know how to sync up the sequencer metronome to the tempo of the sample! 'IT' wasn't "being a bitch" as he said, it's his just his lack of skill or knowledge at that moment. Reminds me of me when I started using midi devices in the '80's! Happy for his success though, as a product of an industry that uses aspects of music.
He's still cold for making a 1/3 time measures song into 1/4
Toby Davies yet he’s the got and I ain’t shit
It’s not a problem. It’s the process.

Jesus Christ, what a douche. That’s Kanye West. Say whatever you want about his rapping career, but the mans a goddamn legend when it comes to production. Go complain about how good producers have it nowadays not having to splice analog tape together at the local guitar center “pro audio” section you give people a hard time inside of. Guess what also changed? Everyone and their brother is an aspiring producer now. Yeah. So it’s a hell of a lot more competition and almost impossible to actually get the shot at doing this for a living. It is unreal seeing "Look out for Kanye's NEW album Graduation in August '07" in 2024. So cool tho seeing an amazing album like Graduation having its creation documented.
video description is so 07, and i love it
People who don't understand the sampling and beatmaking process and logic will always underestimate it. I've been a musician myself for more than 20 years and i love the new colours and levels of creativity that sampling involves. I won't say the old "go make it yourself", you won't be able to make something descent, even less groundbreaking. So show some respect for what you don't know. It'd only make you a better person.
***** Ha!, I didn't describe sampling as something "new", I mentioned the new creative possibilities within, nor I mentioned that it started with rap. You might be somewhat dyslexic.
Claudio Gutiérrez Too bad you'll never realize the creation of the tools they use is far more impressive than anything they'll ever do with it.
People sitting here literally saying Kanye West is a genius. A genius at what? Manipulating people into thinking he's actually talented? Apparently.
I'm not saying he's a genius, nor this is the pinnacle of sampling or tool usage... what's wrong with you people? Kanye is a tool, a moron, not a genius at all, I just commented on how sampling is expanding possibilities and how sometimes it's a very misunderstood way of making music. Do I like it? yes. Do I like this video? Yes I do. Do you have a problem with that? Tough shit. Sorry.
Please read properly and also read what you reply so at least it makes sense.

Just because he uses a machine or program to achieve a sound doesn't negate the fact... I purchased fl studio11 and they don't have a "talent" edition!!!!
ebusseyrchmi agreed. I wanna see those people try use FLS, even making a simple beat proves difficult from time to time and programming isnt as easy as it sounds.
