History
At the end of the 19th century, more powerful locomotives became necessary, leading to the development of the B XI series by Maffei and Krauss in Munich. Between 1892 and 1900, 139 locomotives were built, some as compound versions. The compound locomotives were superior in performance and efficiency but initially had issues with the "Lindner" starting device, later replaced by a better Maffei design. B XI locomotives were deployed on major routes in Bavaria, including Munich, Nuremberg, and Würzburg. These locomotives played a crucial role in express and passenger services across the main Bavarian railway network.
