"The Three Flames Sapphire" is the opener of „Über den Sternen“ and was actually the last song that was composed for this album. It features many an element that Empyrium has always been known for and creates a great opening to the album by evoking a central mood.
I really think this song has the Empyrium DNA imprinted deeply in its very core: The acoustic instruments, the folkloristic vibe, vocals by both Thomas and myself, harsh screams and electric guitars, the yearning melancholy of the multi harmonic lead guitars and lyrically a folk tale of our home region Rhön that is both - incredibly beautiful and tragic.
Proud to present this song alongside the video clip created by Oliver König who masterfully understood to bring to life the tragic tale of the three will o’ the wisps haunting the black moor in images that are Empyrium in their very core. Three blue flames hovering over the moor at night that are the cursed souls of three beautiful, young maiden that now shall haunt your soul…

With their sixth full-length, "Über den Sternen", an allegorical German rendering of their band name meaning "Above the Stars", EMPYRIUM continue to draw from the magic and spirits of wild places, nature's beauty, and human relics of ages long past. "Über den Sternen" echoes this reconciliation of the old with the new on a musical level as well. The Franconian duo has brought the power of electric guitars and even those harsh vocals back, which marked their early works and stood strong upon the band's melodic black metal foundations. Yet EMPYRIUM also keep the dark folk style, which the Germans had progressively leaned towards with their later albums.
What used to appear as a fork in their musical development has now merged into one breath-taking sound. The combined force of mastermind, multi-instrumentalist, clean and extreme vocalist as well as producer Markus "Schwadorf" Stock and classical singer Thomas Helm, who lends his amazing voice also to the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, is painting a radiant sonic picture. It comes with the melancholic grounding of the sophomore album "Songs of Moors & Misty Fields” (1997), adds brushstrokes of the fairy-tale tempera colours of "Where at Night the Wood Grouse Plays" (1999), yet also uses hues from the selection on the DEAD CAN DANCE infused folk-palette that EMPYRIUM previously employed on "The Turn of the Tides" (2014). The crowning varnish is diligently crafted from rougher elements that reach all the way back to the Germans' legendary debut " A Wintersunset…" (1996). “We have found a new balance", Markus Stock emphasises. "We have finally reconciled our vintage sound from the early days with the acoustic expression of the later EMPYRIUM."
Staying true to the Romantic tradition, EMPYRIUM continue to take inspiration for their lyrical flights of fantasy from the local myths, ancient places, and natural wonders of the Rhön Mountains and their Lower Franconian homeland in the West of Germany. A circle is closing, and with EMPYRIUM's label Prophecy Productions, which were originally founded with the mission to release the band's debut album, celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2021, it happens in more than one way.

Bundan tam 30 yil once Empyriumu dinlerken daha memlekette grubun adini duyan insan yoktu. Tiamat Empyrium gibi gruplari dinlerken bu muzikleri dinleyen, anlayacak derinlige ruha sahip bir kiz varmidir bir yerlerde diye dusunurdum. Varmis anlasilan ama henuz dogmamislar o yillarda.

The best album Agalloch never written
Agalloсh is one of my favorite bands, so I guess I'm biased. But nevertheless, this is a completely different genre and I definitely would not compare Empyrium and Agalloch. Despite the fact that I love both teams. And this last album is wonderful.
@@ДанилаКоржанский Overall you are right, I was drawing the comparison to "The Mantle", which is stylistically closest to Empyrium, and partially Marrow of the Spirit. IMO Agalloch went downhill after the Mantle. As far as this Empyrium goes it was as a big, and pleasant surprise for me; this is perhaps their only album that I can digest from start to finish, and miles above anything they released prior to it.

There’s one of my fav, Haggard, but it’s more medieval (a bit like the recent band Apocalypse Orchestra).
Powerwolf’s singer is classically trained if you’re into power metal.
For that voice tone, the neofolk genre have some choice, but it’s quite calmer.

YES! Uaral and Empyrium are my favourite neo folk / doom bands. Wouldn't call them blackened, though Empyrium are, of course.

Pure beauty
I "discovered" these guys in 2001 , on my first fast internet connection using audio galaxy. Not sure why and how but maybe it was "Kein Hirtenfeuer Glimmt mehr" that got me intrigued because of the german title. The mp3's were on my playlists for years and every once in a while i was still playing "Many Moons Ago" "A Pastoral Theme" or " Wehmut" The songs always were stuck in the back of my head and when I recently saw that the first 3 albums were available on Vinyl , I had to get them. The other day, listening to them I thought " What a shame they are not releasing anything any longer". And then this video popped up. Not only did this take me back 20 years in an instant, it also made me actually google them, find out that i am missing out on two more albums and that a new one is coming up. I am stoked they are back and sound as hauntingly beautiful as they did "back in the day"

What artistry! The music, the atmosphere, the visuals... Though Empyrium is one of those bands whose art I appreciate the most, I hadn't listened to them in many years, and this video was an absolute delight to discover.

Markus’ music always takes me to that “magical” place. I could die with a smile on my face while listening to anything he composes - such beauty and talent he possess, it’s just mesmerizing to my soul.

When there was such a long silence after Weiland's 2002 album, I thought that I would never hear them again. But they returned in 2014. And it was a masterpiece. Which I no longer hoped for.
