Hi Katrina! Copywriter here who was also at my first agency job for 4 years. I joined another agency before working for myself and let me tell you, as scary as it is, you are so ahead of the curve. You are totally employable because your designs are catchy, you seem like a great co worker, and you are so good on social! I was actually “let go” from my last job, though through a contract ending so it also felt like not my choice. I was heartbroken but chose to go all in on my longtime dream of video as well. I am a bit older than you so I have my own fears, but as someone with about 15 years now of consulting / contracting experience, i know you have what it takes to build whatever thriving direction you choose. Ps your mom and sis made me tear up; that’s the pep talk I wish I had. Looking forward to all the gifts 2025 has for the both of us!! Cheers!
Spent 4 years managing their branding, now you get to focus on your own branding full-time! Based on the quality of this vid you're gonna be just fine, congrats on what lies ahead
Girl, you’re one of the most talented designers out here, I believe everything happens for the best, and your career is just starting now- you’re going places!
I got laid off after 5 year’s of being with a company. Also because of budget cuts. Took 4 months off, then became a freelancer. And in just one year, I am getting paid more than before. I get to choose what to work on. I also have time to pursue a new passion, calligraphy, which has given me multiple job opportunities. Honestly, if you have planted the right seeds in your life, something will grow out of it without having to panic. Jobs came to me, I didn’t look for them. You probably already have people watching you and interested in collaborating. Being laid off is a good thing. Especially since you are very young. We get too attached to projects and maybe don’t notice that there are many more opportunities to grow out there. Sending a big hug!
The way your mom reacted was so unexpectedly beautiful caring wholesome and quick. She had no doubt you'll be able to pull through, and was so validating and empowering. It caught me so off guard it made me cry lol. She sounds like an amazing person who's been through it and gained so much wisdom, and someone to keep as close as possible 💖 I'm super excited to see your RUclips journey!! Blessing in disguise, new beginnings, and a fresh start ^.^
Thank you for sharing this vulnerable part of your life, Kat! Not sure if you remember, but you taught the Branding elective at Cal and I was lucky enough to be one of your students! You seriously inspired me and so many others in that class, and continue to inspire even more people with all the content you've been making. If I remember one thing about you and your talents and work ethic, it's that you are so creatively powerful. You will get through this and it will get so much better for you. Your mom is right- you are SO. GOOD. Can't wait to see what you do next!
I agree with your mom! Definitely a blessing in disguise! You are super talented and your talent is needed elsewhere this upcoming year. It sucks at the moment but later on when you experience why it had to happen, it’ll all make sense ( I left my two year teaching job in Korea to work for kbeauty branding in NYC- so I know firsthand!!) keep going girl! You got this
im glad i discovered your channel this year. you've inspire me to create more and even learn new things! im sure im not the only one. rooting for you!!
Gurl, you’re the best. I can’t wait to see more of your personal projects in the coming days, I’m sure they’ll be FIIIIIRE!!! You are so creative and inspiring, things are going to be even better now, I am deeply sure of that!!! ❤
I’ve been following you for a while now, ever since my 3rd year of university when I was starting my first real job (in an agency) and I just wanted to say what an inspiration you are to so many of us! I’ve graduated now (so it’s been like 2-3 years that I’ve bed following you?) and I’m still here because you inspire me every single day. I know you’ve probably heard this a million times but you will 100% be fine!!! And just like your mom said, this is a blessing in disguise. Its your chance to follow your dreams and do your own thing and I bet it will all work out and be 10x better. 🥺🥺🥺 I hope this holiday season serves as a good break and introspection moment so you can feel energized for whatever comes next!
it's okay to let dreams die. It means you can create new ones. It sounds dark, I know. But, you're young, talented and got plent of great opportunities ahead. Your passion for design is everywhere. You can feel it in your place. I love it. I was laid off back in March. It sucks. Better days a head. You're young and talented. I have no doubt you'll land on your feet okay. This is the opportunity to relax for a bit. Always apply everyday. But, make it a goal to recharge.
Thanks for being so transparent and sharing 👌🏾 It’s the company’s loss imo 🤷🏾♂️ You will be an asset wherever you go next and you will thrive as an entrepreneur 🥳🙌🏾 can’t wait to see what you do next 😊
Your mom is so nice and she's also right. This will more than likely allow you to achieve more than you would trying to balance a job, freelance, and content creation. It may be harder in the short term but you'll end up in a better place. I'm in the same position where I probably should leave my job but I'm afraid of losing the stable paycheck. Sometimes you need someone to push you off the cliff...you'll be fine! looking forward to more content now! haha
I’m so sorry you got laid off! Thank you for sharing this vulnerable moment with us. You have a great support system and you’re an amazing artist. I know you’ll absolutely kill it in 2025!
I also just recently lost my job and want to bet on myself with this freelance website project underway, and it's scary as shit having animals and no health insurance. Also I stumbled upon this video in my feed, but I also saw your I'm Rich cat poster design video, and you earned a supporter for you going full time entrepreneur!! You'll kill it 🎉🎉
the phone call with your mom was so wholesome to watch. My parents also say, "It's a blessing in disguise." Definitely shaped my perseverance in life too.
I love how supportive your family was! I had a similar experience in my early 20s and getting laid off from my dream job was the worst but when I think back to it, it really redefined my goals and purpose in life. I definitely had the whole WHY ME?! breakdowns but it really pushed me to be more fearless and just try things I always wanted to try. This is just a little hurdle- and I know you'll get through it and find your next big thing!
when we won't make choices that lead us the right way the universe finds a way 😂 You will do great, you have the experience of a whole design team and creative director. Congrats on what's next!
Katrina, your mom’s reaction made me cry! Thank you for sharing this ❤ my mom is gone now and I miss her words of encouragement during trying times. You’re doing great, girl! Keep it up.
Doesn't matter where u live, it always sucks, especially at the year's end. But from my perspective: you are young, have skills, and a boyfriend, and you went to college! So look back to what you already accomplished, and keep going with your life. PLUS YOUR MOM IS SUPPORTING YOU. By the other hand is important to see how much you have in comparison with other people around you, and around the world. That helps sometimes!
moms are honestly the best. she’s so right, it may not seem like it, but this lay off was a blessing in disguise. i’m very excited to see what opportunities come to you/you create for yourself in the upcoming year 💕
I was recently laid off too! So I felt like I connected with you and this video. Thank you for sharing this I think it has helped me kind of process it the same. I felt like what you said like that dooming feeling but also hopeful because of the season we are in. So thankful for your channel! Wishing you success for 2025!
I have complete and utter faith in you going into 2025! you've been a big inspiration in showing me how to embrace the creative life and i hope you'll continue showing up here on YT. I wish you nothing but the best
Dear Katrina, I’m so sorry. Every person processes things differently, so my love, take time for yourself (as you need it…). Changes are scary at first. Feeling this way is completely normal. Go your own way at your own pace. I am so proud of you. I appreciate you so much and I wish you the best. Biiiiiiiig hug 🤗
Omggggg. You are like my biggest inspiration and if anyone can do it, you can. I want to go full time in design in 2026 and I can wait to watch your journey and see all the amazing things you do. This is just the beginning!!!!
Hey, katrina. Merry christmas and happy new year in advance. Every video of yours is so inspiring and educational. I literally wait for you to post so that I can learn something from your videos whether it is a small tutorial or life lesson. To be honest, I am saying this from my heart, you're my favorite graphic designer and content creator❤
KAT CONGRATS!! This is definitely a blessing in disguise and I’m sure that you will turn this into something awesome! Wishing you luck and I’m so excited to see what you do next! ❤
AHHHH, thank you so much for sharing this super personal experience with us! It's honestly really really inspiring seeing you power through even with a sudden and unwanted change in your life! We know- and you and your family know- that you are going to be just fine because you have the passion and the skill to make it as a full-time content creator and freelancer!! Also, your ate's and mom's reaction to you getting laid off are soooo adorable! They're SOOO supportive
Hello Katrina! I love your video and your creative journey. I hope this will be a great start for amazing 2025 ahead and I know you got this. Hope to see your future creative journey 😊
Going through almost the same exact thing. Laid off from a small architecture firm early december after 5.5 years and although it's sad, it's also a bit freeing and feels like a new chapter. But it's only been a few weeks since so who knows. Good luck in your endeavors.
You are a legend. Most would not record themselves after such an event. However, you took it as an opportunity. Plus I know you're mom and yourself are correct that you want to do freelancing and i know you will continue to evolve.
I totally feel you-I experienced a layoff recently during the holiday season, and it truly feels like the best present in disguise. Your videos are so motivating and have inspired me to keep going after what I want. I’m now creating my own product, and I just wanted to say thank you for everything you share. Wishing you all the best on your journey!
I'd love to pay for any kind of class like teaching you could do! To learn some things you've experienced head on in that career path would be amazing!!

If you see the vision within you, come what may, you are covered and will be right where you need to be. ❤
dude... your mom made me tear up. The absolute reassurance and certainty that you will be just fine gave ME peace, and she's not even talking to me😂🤣
Laid off before Christmas is asinine. That sucks so much. Like your mom said it’s a blessing in disguise!!
excited for you this upcoming year kat :,)

girl I am in THE SAME BOAT. I got laid off this month from my first job which was kinda a dream job of sorts. I am also pursing freelance work as I am a videographer and photographer. It's terrifying to not have consistent income anymore.
Hi, this isnt me trying to shove my faith down your throat, but at least for me something that has given me a new sense of comfort and peace in the state of uncertainty is that "Theres no decision I can make that isnt being monitored by God" and in essence, i know that everything, no matter what it appears on the outside or as uncomfortable as it can, it will ALL be used for my good in the end.
If you see the vision within you, come what may, you are covered and will be right where you need to be. ❤
mom is sweet
