Linus Bayard i agree actually and you may be on to something,as in a way technology might actually be going backwards everytime the Empire is dealt a major setback, and as certain leaders focus on utilising super weapons instead of large numbers of powerful uniform ships

    • @ordohereticus5530
      @ordohereticus5530 6 лет назад +101

Patrick Gunnells umm.... how is technology going backwords if the Empire simply chooses to build super weapons instead of a couple dozen fleets? Technology is actually progressing is star wars, take the Resurgent for example, its the pinnacle of SD design so far, with an abusive size of an armament that is powered by kyber crystals, multiplying the damage out put. Not to mention hyperspace tracking (a major plot point) which was considered impossible up to that point. Ties now have shields and what not. These are just canon examples.

    • @yutterh9153
      @yutterh9153 6 лет назад +88

It wasn't considered impossible up to that point......they jsut wanted you to think that. Episode 4 had the millinium falcon tracked when they left the death star. Boba fett also tracked them in episode 5. Hell the movie has finn saying " That's impossible" then later have him saying he worked in that very room -_- don't take anything TLJ set up as truth, because it was a terrible movie, as well as a terrible star wars movie. Which can't have consistent continuity with itself much less the rest of star wars. Please never reference anything from TLJ as star wars lore. It broke everything and fixed nothing. Just added on more questions and makes the audience writers to explain the glaring plot holes and inconsistencies.

Hi, customer service? Yeah, how's it going? Oh, fine, fine, fine... My name Darth Plagueis and I'm looking to place an order on a few Venator Class Destroyers...Yes, the triangle ones... Oh, ok, sure, I'll hold (contemporary music plays)... Hi, yeah, I'm still here...how many? About 2 dozen for starters. By when? Well, as soon as possible because we got that whole rebellion thing going on and we're really trying to get a handle on that asap. What color? Geeze, I didn't even think of that...Something menacing, I suppose. Black has been done to death and silver, well, it's just silver... Gee, I dunno, why don't you surprise me...just don't make them pink! What? My credit card number? Sure, I got that... Now, do you guys take American Express Corporate? I really don't want to put this on my own card because putting this many ships on an expense report always gets me major pushback and I won't see a reimbursement check until sometime during the next millennia! Besides, the Sith Lords don't like it when we use our own credit cards for business purposes...tax purposes, I think. Yeah, you get it... You'll take it, great! Alrighty then let's get this order placed!

Snokes Supremacy should return in Episode 9. If it's that long it should still be operational even with the 1/5th of it blown off. Just have them repair and seal off the bit that is exposed to space and have it obvious that that bit was destroyed by the rebel cruiser.
It's getting ridiculous that they keep making these super weapons and they get destroyed in one strike, I wanna see one of these big weapons actually survive to have another battle in the next movie.

The Force powers we see in Last Jedi are rather tame in comparison.
Infact a lot of the people bitching about the movie just because of force bullshit probably bitched about Unleashed at some point. So they're massive hypocrites if they don't acknowledge legends has equally stupid shit.
Or bitching because they want to be spoon fed all relevant info instead of going out and looking up shit that's not relevant to the plot.
I can guarantee you if Empire was released today people would be bitching about the Vader-Anakin reveal or screaming 'Why the fuck can Leia hear Luke in the force what the fuck!?!'

And removes any justification for Death Stars if you and just hijack a freighter like the one Han and Chewie had in TFA and set the auto pilot to FTL ram the ship into the Death Star. Or why not build FTL missiles a bit smaller than a starfighter to destroy captial ships, after all if you can fit a hyperdrive on an X-wing, why not? That First Order Fleet would have been destroyed with less than 20 such missiles, the Imperial Fleet at Endor (including the Death Star 2) could have been thoroughly smashed with 40 or 50 depending on how much of a beating the Death Star could take.

jime6688 Keep in mind technology has probably progressed since Return of the Jedi, and it was probably very risky and not worth trying even if it was possible before hand. The resistance had no where to go, were on the verge of destruction, and had no other options.
It also had to probably be timed by a skilled and experienced pilot, or a specialized droid, as you could jump too late or too early. So why would you waste a perfectly good pilot or an expensive droid and a ship just for the chance of a near light speed destruction?

Kinda. One time in Legends, 3 star destroyers came out of hyperspace (still going light speed) smashed into an Executor Super Star Destroyer, but they just exploded when they hit the shields of the ship and the Super Star Destroyer was unharmed. All what happened is the Super Star Destroyer's shields took some damage.

Keadin Mode Indeed. My first question after watching that scene was, why didn't any faction in SW history ever create Hyper space missiles. Like no need for suicide ships when you can fit missiles with hyperdrive.
This scene was spectacular especially for common movie goers but for a SW fan that likes going deep in the lore it doesn't make sense, it is immersion breaking the more you think about it and it just shouldn't be there.

    • @ibraheemahmad7404
      @ibraheemahmad7404 6 лет назад +29

Hyper drive is being used for more than 20000 years now and was created even before. Only now a purple hair lady came up with the idea. No one else before came up with the idea that the technology could be used this way or to come up with some countermeasures if someone ever used it this way. That's doesn't make sense.

The wedge shape on the Harrower is like the Millennium Falcon and the Falcon wedge is used for pushing against cargo containers . My preferences are for the Venator Class with its rapid deploy hangar and the Acclamator Assault Ship. Despite what you said about it, this thing was a beast. Heavy firepower (12 Quad Turbolaser Turrets, 24 Point Defense Cannons, and 4 Torpedo Launchers), Neutronium Impregnated Armor, 16k Clone Trooper Capacity along with a ludicrous amount of support craft like AT-TEs, Bikes, 66 LATT/i and 14 LATT/c transports, and a ridiculously fast Class 0.6 Hyperdrive (or 0.75 depending on your source). The ship also had a range of 250,000 LY meaning it could transport troops from Coruscant to the Outer Rim and return home with fuel to spare. To quote Han, she doesn't look like much but she's got it where it counts.

Call me old-fashioned but I'd plant my flag on a good old Imperial I. Sure, most newer ships of the line can run you down and blow you to pieces with overwhelming firepower. He is saying that having a hyperdrive based weapon would be THE answer to any and all capital-ship size fleets. A torpedo with a hyperdrive system could cut through an ISD like butter if what we saw in the last jedi is the case. Anything larger than perhaps a nebulon B cruiser would be easy prey for such a weapon.

This strategy wasn't used before because the rebellion/resistance didn't have that many ships, unlike the empire/first order. Using this strategy would cause the rebellion/resistance to quickly run out of resources. Anyways, many imperial ships had shields, so x-wings couldn't do as much damage to them as the resistance ship in TLJ did to Snoke's ship.

I'd have to say I love the *Resurgent-class Battlecruiser/Star Destroyer* the most, in spite of my usual love for the classic Imperial I and II's of the Empire, and of course the Executor-class. I do think that for its day, the *Harrower-class* was utterly vital to the evolution of the Star Destroyer as we know it (in-universe) though in the real world obviously the real credit should go to the invention of the Imperial Star Destroyer (The Devastator) which debuted in 1977, also being the 2nd ever ship on-screen in Star Wars history (though the CR90 Corellian Corvette the Tantive IV was the very first ship of any kind seen in Star Wars, and the opening scrawl alluded to rebel ships attacking the Empire previously - from whence we get Rogue One's origins)
The Harrower-class, pioneered by the likes of impressive *Grand Moff Odile Vaiken* thousands of years before, under the reign of the Sith Emperor Vitiate, was integral (in-universe) to the story of the Star Destroyer. This military genius laid down plans which he knew he wouldn't live to see completed, and made the Sith Empire's navy the ferocious power it was in those ancient times. Long after his death, the Sith Emperor's fleet was utterly overwhelming to the Old Republic, forcing them back and wiping out entire fleets which stood in their way. Odile Vaiken even died testing out a prototype Star Destroyer, on the bridge of a new model (presumably akin to an upgraded Harrower-class) while fighting alien factions in wild space, expanding the Sith Empire. A worthy way to go, for such a major figure in Star Destroyer development - dying testing the might of his designs, with even his loss most likely helping make his designs even better posthumously. Utter dedication to his cause.
Even Emperor Palpatine reflected on the Harrower-class thousands of years after they were prominent, regarding them as important models to base the Imperial Navy on. The Kaminoans had already been inspired by the Old Republic and Sith Empire of the long-gone past, in their designs of the Clone Trooper Phase I uniforms and their commissions to Rothana Heavy Engineering for a dagger-shaped carrier/assault ship (the Acclamator-class)
Republic and Imperial Star Destroyers aside, I just cannot overlook the potential of the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer as it is utterly imposing and for its size, far superior to any ship of its kind that came before.
A single Resurgent-class (especially with its Kyber-enhanced weapon systems) would shred an entire squadron of Imperial II-class Star Destroyers, all on its own. I strongly believe that.
It was designed to bully other capital ships into submission in a much more pointed and decisive way than even the Imperial Star Destroyer variants ever were. It was a deliberate, intentional and specific upgrade on those designs.
Pound for pound, it is a far more advanced warship than even the Executor-class, and if it were the same size up-scaled...then the Executor-class would be as redundant in its size range as the Imperial-class was in its size range.
It'd take a few Resurgent-class Star Destroyers to take down an Executor-class, I believe, but I have little confidence in the old Imperial Super Star Destroyer to survive such an assault. It might be able to use its full firepower to bludgeon one of the Resurgents to death with sheer weight of firepower, but that advantage wouldn't last long as the Resurgents overpowered the shields and targeted the bridge.
If I could, I'd have a Grand Fleet of a minimum of *10,000 Resurgent-class* Star Destroyers. The Empire had 25,000 Imperial-class Star Destroyers and they still lost. But 10,000 Resurgent-class would do a better job at protecting a huge empire than 2.5 times as many older design vessels could. I'd say *1 Resurgent-class = 4 Imperial-class* in a straight up slogging match of ship-to-ship battle. Also, First Order pilots and superior fighters would stomp all over the older Imperial ones (though not without taking some losses themselves, don't get me wrong)
Ideally, *30,000 Resurgent-class* would ensure almost total control of the galaxy.
I would also prefer that there are at least 1000 Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnoughts, and a range of other classes of First Order warships. There need to be thousands of frigates, corvettes, cruisers and heavier classes. We know the TIE Silencer prototype, ''The Silencer'' flown by Kylo Ren personally, was him test piloting a new model of interceptor fighter of devastating power and quality. Therefore, it'd make a lot of sense for the First Order to be bringing more and more designs into production, brand new and the very metalwork glowing hot fresh off the production line. We already know that the Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought was brand new and basically being trialled when we see it (the Fulminatrix) in Episode 8.
I'm hoping to see an Executor-class size range Super Dreadnought, built for the First Order. Bigger than the Mandator IV-class, but smaller than the insanely massive Supremacy-class. If I remember rightly, the Eclipse is now canonical again, and *was* taken into the Unknown Regions long ago. Hopefully it is still out there somewhere, and perhaps even serving as a model for Kuat-Entralla and the First Order shipyards in the Unknown Regions, to produce an even more impressive ship. After all, Kyber crystals are utilised in the weapons systems of some of the Resurgent-class, such as the Finalizer. And, if Eclipse is indeed still out there, and maybe even upgraded by the First Order the same way they upgraded a lot of Imperial Era tech surplus, then, that thing demonstrates a super-laser outright to begin with. It'd make sense for the First Order to be building mobile super-laser armed Super Dreadnoughts.
When complimented by a large fleet of Resurgent-class Star Destroyers, and with several other ship classes to fill out a fleet in any given situation, including Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnoughts, then it would be a terrifying arrangement to try to take on. The Supremacy was a wasted opportunity, though.
I'm not put off by its controversial size, so much as the way it was used in Episode 8. It was worthy of the First Order and in most situations would be a monstrosity. But lets just say that it was under-powered in some crucial aspects...

even if you had 100,000 ships; you could only send 1 ship to spend about 52 minutes in all billion star systems in your average galaxy. Control of a galaxy is a fantasy in star wars.

      +uniquelydavid,
Your primitive take on military strategy is clear; you assume that every single planetary system is equally challenging to control at any level.
100,000 ships would be more than enough to control the galaxy, as you clearly refer to 100,000 capital ships - as I mentioned, if you even noticed, I said that there were millions of other ships in many other classes besides the 25,000 ISD's.
The Imperial Navy was staggering. The rebels should never have won, just by looking at the Imperial Fleet alone.
I'll detail more on why you're basically wrong:
      1. Like I say, the galaxy is full of primitive/lifeless/sub-hyperspeed technology capable worlds. While the exact proportion is clearly unknown, the fact remains that *to control the galaxy would only require dominance over the most advanced systems* within it.
      2. Continuing on that theme; to control the galaxy would mean *ruling from fortress worlds and dominating key hyperspace lanes* as well as setting up interconnected outposts far and wide.
If one Imperial stronghold can exert influence over hundreds of surrounding, less powerful systems, that is essentially enough.
In the real world, the British Empire dominated the largest Empire in human history from outposts dominating vast swathes of ocean and land areas. In the ''British Lake'' of the Mediterranean Sea in the 19th century and 20th century, Britain dominated from four main bases; Gibraltar, Malta, Alexandria and Cyprus (Limassol) Britain also had Crete and other bases in the region, as well as a major asset in at the time (during the late 19th to mid 20th century) owning the Suez Canal.
The Suez Canal can be compared to a hyperspace lane of sorts, because its construction was done to avoid having to sail all the way down the Atlantic Ocean, rounding southern Africa and sailing all the way up the Indian Ocean to wherever you wanted to go to. Taking a nifty shortcut from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean via the Gulf of Arabia, helped massively. This was and is the value of that sea lane. The Panama Canal is the Americana equivalent, which prevents the need for expensively sailing round South America to get to your destination, coming or going. Naturally, while still a major global power, hyperpower (the world's only ever) and giant Empire, Britain jealously guarded its rights and ownership of the Suez Canal. With its loss in the events of 1956, Britain's already collapsing Empire faded far quicker. The British artery binding their eastern and western possessions either side of Africa, through Africa, was severed and this made the task of maintaining their imperial bases in the Pacific and Indonesia region e.g Malaya/Malaysia extremely difficult (there were counterinsurgency wars in those regions subsequently, which Britain narrowly managed to get through though losing its dominant presence/air of power in the process itself)
Moreover, British Hong Kong, was even further isolated and its fall to the vile hands of Communism became inevitable.
Speaking of Hong Kong, British imperial control of Singapore and Hong Kong, and other well-developed outposts, ensured that for decades, Imperial and later Communist China, was kept in check to some extent. You don't need to rule the entire continent to win the war - just tough outposts which help winning naval supremacy. In the Star Wars galaxy, domination of key trade lanes and key systems/keystone systems, not to mention their forward bases on random worlds in their exploration of the galaxy, has been proven repeatedly in galactic history to be enough to rule.
      3. It is true SW lore is very inconsistent/written by countless authors, with different takes on how it should be (and a lot of people piss me off in SW they write so much bullshit, just look at the new BS in The Last Jedi my word what a shit show that was)
But that matters little - in the original trilogy, in A New Hope (''The Star Wars'', its original name before Lucas thought of making 6 films in choppy order) it was well established that the Empire was the dominant political force and military organisation.
With the limited details back then, the Empire was always intended to be the boss in the SW galaxy, the big bad...
So, it was *always narrative to the story that the Empire had dominance* and that this oppression was the mirror to the rebel movement trying to smash it.
It was never intended to be anything other than that.
      4. 1 Imperial-class Star Destroyer has the potential means to subdue an entire system. You underestimate the power of this class of ship. It has the firepower to glass entire continents in an hour long bombardment merely, and if a small fleet of these get together they can kill all life on a planet's surface effectively. They are devastating. This is part of why the Death Stars seem even more stupid to me - the Navy could achieve the levels of destruction with ease. Han Solo's ad lib line about how the Imperial Fleet wouldn't be able to blow up a planet and that it'd take more than half the firepower of the fleet is just wrong, hyperbolic at best.
Clearly, if an entire starfleet of Star Destroyers (say, over 100 of them - or 100/25,000 or 0.4% of the number of Star Destroyers the Empire has) bombarded a planet for a few days non-stop I am sure it'd start to implode. It is nowhere near 50%/12,500 Star Destroyers. It was clearly a figure of speech from Han, but his fear and concern/disbelief in it, implies sloppy writing by Lucas (Lucas's writing was famously cringey and there are behind the scenes stories of how Mark, Harrison and Carrie all called Lucas out of lines they either hated or really didn't like/outright hated/wanted changed) There are interviews confirming this. So the line is inconsistent with how powerful Star Destroyers canonically are.
So, 1 Star Destroyer (or, 1/25,000th of the Star Destroyers the Empire has/ 0.004% of the Imperial Star Destroyer totals) could dominate potentially hundreds of minor worlds and be a major threat to a more developed system. Of course, rebel tactics improved so much that lone Star Destroyers became relatively vulnerable to strikes against them, and the architectural shortcomings of ISD's on a tactical level - versus snub fighters and bombers especially, mastered by the rebels unfortunately for the Imperials - became increasingly devastating as a flaw which could be worked around. But that was only the rebels whose entire existence was predicated on their struggle against the Empire by any means at their disposal, going to desperate, self-sacrificing lengths to bring down the Empire. Most other factions/forces/independent groups in the galaxy, stood zero chance of effectively contending with the Imperial Navy. Even the Rebel Alliance took years and years to get good at taking out ISD's and imperial bases, and even then they took massive casualties to learn important lessons. For a long time, ISD's would dominate the rebels in battles and tear them to pieces. Only when we get to events in SW rebels and Rogue One, are rebels successful in taking out ISD's in open battles/sabotages.
Now imagine you're some random planet with a small militia army with outdated equipment and not much contact with the outer galaxy at large - and then, an ISD fully manned by 47,000 crew, troopers and officers, aiming its guns at your capital city from orbit and demanding you surrender blasts out of hyperspace. Erm...yeah, I think you'd probably surrender and convert to the GE rather than be blown to mincemeat by an Orbital Bombardment/Delta Base Zero command order.
Now imagine 100 of those ships with 4.7 million crew, troopers and officers, turn up. Now imagine 1,000 (or 1/25th of the Imperial ISD numbers) show up, with 47 million crew, troopers and officers. Are you seeing what I mean?
      5. Yes, the Imperial forces were spread thinly - relatively - around the galaxy. And yes, the number of Imperial ships at both the Battle of Endor and even the Battle of Jakku seems stupidly small. However, there is a good reason for this. Well, two good reasons:
      i) the limitations of budget, production time, visual effects and film elements in the 1983 ROTJ film.
ii) the story element that at the Battle of Endor, the Empire didn't want to attract too much attention by moving too many ISD's around to one corner of the galaxy. The 30 or so ISD's at Endor were dripping slowly into the rally point one by one, not drawing unwanted attention, to ensure secrecy. If 400 ISD's just blasted up the backside of the Rebel fleet out of hyperspace (as they so easily could have, I believe, and should have) then it'd be bye bye rebel fleet, bye bye Rebellion full stop)
Imperials got nerfed so badly. But there is some logic in ''only'' 30 ISD's being present. 30 ISD's would normally be fucking terrifying but in those circumstances where so much was at stake, Palpatine should have brought more to the fight. But they were going to lose from the get go - the fucking film title is a clue ''Return Of The Jedi'' lol...
Even with that strategic situation in mind, the Empire was still the dominant power for a year and 4 days after the Battle of Endor - until the bloody Battle of Jakku ended the Galactic Civil War.
The Empire should never have lost the war in my view, they simply had too many forces to be beaten. They could have endured a dozen Battle of Jakku sized defeats - and it'd only take 3 or 4 of those kinds of defeats to bleed the Rebellion dry. Jakku cost both sides horrific losses and the Rebels were almost spent themselves, even in victory, losing so many hundreds of thousands of lives to win. Sure, the New Republic could then, while the ruling power, recruit millions/billions more units, but their anti-military policies which even turned against General Leia, meant they disbanded and banned vast armies, and this made them vulnerable when the First Order attacked them. Idiotic communistic rebels lol
      6. You need to learn about the importance of naval strategy.

The final evolution; Let's make a 2.5x scale ISD. Let's stick a "death star" laser on the bottom so it can blow up planets as well. Then let's bury about 1000 of them so we can get wicked visuals when they are revealed. But we want to give that pesky resistance a sporting chance yes? Well let's make it so their shields don't work inside atmosphere, the navigation system (or pilots) can't tell which way UP is, and also remember that death star laser? Let's make it so hitting that with anything at all blows up the whole ship.

it probably doesnt work as well if it isnt a surprise. if you know that the enemy will try it, there are ways to counter it. plus you can only do it so many times before you start running out of ships or people. i suppose they could always try equipping a missile with hyperspace tech but that would make it extremely expensive to produce. you might as well build a ship around it for additional mass for the impact. not to mention im sure there would be drawbacks to launching a missile out of a tube on a ship at light speed.

because the fact you can ram shit in ftl renders the death star pointless. one striped down hyperdrive with a guidance system hitting a planet would outclass the energy of any super weapon in star wars if were using even slightly realistic physics. the rebelion should have been able to one shot the death star with a glancing blow from one striped down X wing. granted this is star wars and real world pyhiscs is pretty far removed but still.

For me, sometimes the simplest solution is the best. While perhaps not as flashy or specialized as its forebears or decedents, the classic Imperial I Star Destroyer is still my favorite. Distinct, imposing, a touch regal looking and carrying enough firepower, fighters, and troops to shred an entire fleet of lesser ships or slag a civilized world all on its own, the Imperial was as much a symbol as it was a machine of war. Just one showing up in system meant the Empire wasn't screwing around and though costly and not without its design flaws unless you were aboard a Mon Cal there was very little you could do against it a straight on fight.
If you want to rule the galaxy give me 250,000 of those over a Death Star or Galaxy Gun or World Devastator any day.
