    I do agree with Raceroom as a great game for controller. When I was starting, I went from PC2 to AC to R3E while using Xbox pad. PC2 was quite good in terms of overall control, but the rumble feedback was pretty dead and it felt a bit floaty. AC I was just never able to make work for me on the controller, the cars didn't seem to turn in correctly no matter the settings. R3E was just great out of the box, both in terms of controllability as well as great rumble feedback.
    2 years later I now have T300RS and the R3E is still my favorite sim I play every week.

    Wow you’re right about RaceRoom. I’ve just tried it out and it’s perfect. The car handling on the controller and the chase cam are the best I’ve seen in a sim racing game. Not only that, but the sense of speed and the camera angle makes it really easy to judge distance and makes the driving very intuitive.

    I think it was Graham Carroll (I might remember the driver incorrectly) who drove in the iRacing World Championship Grand Prix Series with a gamepad. So, if you know what you're doing, you can be bloody fast with that thing. Also, iRacing does allow "relaxed camera views", aka Chase cam, however only in hosted races and only if the server host allows it. But for a very long time (until 2014 or 15 I think) you were actually allowed to race in official races in the relaxed camera view.

    I have to say that the original Automobilista is the best simracing title for those wanting to play with a controller. I can never imagine not using the right thumb stick as your throttle and brake pedals and AMS lets you do just that. The experience is very pleasant let me tell ya. The only downside to AMS is that it's too short content-wise.
    rFactor 2 is featured in this list but I have to say it's quite a hassle if you'd like to get your hands on this game with your Xbox / PS4 controller. I've put thousands of hours into this game only to find the sweet spot. What I mean by that is the cars are either too twitchy, or the game becomes something with cars that don't want to turn into corners. There's not a middle ground for it.

    • @albertmas3752
      @albertmas3752 Год назад

      Using the right thumb as accelerator/break isn't a good way to play sim racers. It's ok for beginners but when playing in a more advanced way many times you need to push break without releasing the accelerator and that's not possible using the right thumb. Racing games in PS1 and PS2 used the right stick for accel./break only because Dual Shock and Dual Shock 2 controllers didn't have analog triggers but once Dual Shock3 (PS3) came out no game used that configuration by default leaving it as an extra configuration for those players coming from PS1/2. But being able to use this configuration (or being used to it because of my previous blah blah) doesn't mean it's good.

    Oh man you sooooo wasted an awesome opportunity: Play a sim with a DualSense controller using 6axis gyroscope.
    Tested on BeamNG, AC, RaceRoom, and it is a BLAST. The only lackluster is the force feedback, really, and quicker/more precise reactions when counter steering for a spin recovery. Other than that, it's a quick fix for a race enthusiast on a budget. Even the vibration is enjoyable, albeit not that useable.
    On top of that, you have an integrated mouse to navigate your PC and menus around. What's not to like about it??

    • @justpostedagain
      @justpostedagain 2 года назад

      I came here to say this. I played PC2 using a Steam Controller gyro for about a year before I bought a wheel. Feels a bit funny the first couple of times, but the ability to do small adjustments is miles ahead of the stick.

    • @EddieOtool
      @EddieOtool 2 года назад

      @@justpostedagain Agreed. I don't know about the Steam Controller's gyro, but I can say the Dual Sense just felt natural to me from the get go. After tuning it in properly, it behaves just like you expect. No lag whatsoever; very responsive, and very precise on top of that. Jimbo tested a gyro wheel once, and it looked very funky; the DualSense looks nothing like that.

    Let me share my control pad settings for RACE ROOM EXPERIENCE, for those with a Xbox One pad. Can't promise it can work for PlayStation pad too...
    Assist:
    Counter Steer: off
    Video:
    Wheel rotation: 180 (not sure if cars are literally 180 degrees or just cockpit animation)
    Advanced:
    Speed sensitivity steer: 24%
    Min steering speed: 0
    Max steering speed: 444
    Steer dead zone: 2%
    Throttle low dead zone: 0%
    Brake low dead zone: 0%
    Throttle upper dead: 100%
    Brake upper dead: 100%
    Steer sensitivity: 0%
    Thottle sensitivity: 0%
    Brake sensitivity: 0%
    Throttle release: 100%
    Brake release: 100%
    Analogue sector 1, 2 and 3: 1000%
    Return multiply: 1000%
    Force Feedback (vibration rather...) I may come back later for this bit.
    Strength: 100%
    Linearity: 100%
    Minimum: 0%
    Maximum: 100&
    Stationery: 50%
    Immersion: All switched off.
    Notes: You will need a steady thumb. So that means no jerking and no abrupt thumb movements unless catching unwanted oversteer. Speed sensitivity is set low so you can catch oversteer, if that is set higher, you will have a harder time catching slides. And vibrations help you indicate front wheel scrubbing and impending throttle oversteer on corner exit. You will also have to rely on visual cues too.
    More notes: Analogue sectors, return multiply and speed sensitivity are the most important setup I think!
    Extra notes: You are better off using a control pad on a PC sim racing game than a console racing car game. My settings are designed to provide accuracy and control, stability and consistency. Here is a test: Use a fast car such as a formula one (no older than eighties), group C, red bull car, indy car, etc. Don't use a slow car or else my test will be useless! Use my settings and drive those cars. Then go to either Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport (any pad setting) and drive the same cars and compare how it handles to my pad settings.

This script redefine how the game interprets controler inputs. Orginal AC was designed for wheels only so steering controler feels simply wrong and unrealistic whitout this mod and in-game settings cannot deal with it too much.

      Update: Its been two months and I'm back. I got more information...
      There's a reason why I set speed sensitivity so low... You can counter-steer. You won't be able to do that if sensitivity was set higher. I can't remember why I set it low as I haven't used control pad in a very long time. Now I remember.
      Wheel rotation to be set at its lowest. This is found in car setup, not in options. Setting wheel rotation low allows your thumb to move around a little more.

    The Xbox Series controller has a lot of trouble on AC. When it comes to Xbox 360 controllers (and the compatible ones) it's perfect unless you're using a bad qualiti controller like I used to do. Everything works fine, Start button works as intended... all the right boxes checked. But man, when it comes to Xbox Series controller... at 1st it doesn't recognise it. Well to be true it recognises the controller, the Settings/Control menu shows correctly all digital/analog buttons used but when it comes to play nothing works. You can configure Steam to activate Steam Input for Xbox controllers and it works but some buttons don't work like Right Thumb or Start (while strangely the View/back button works as intended).
    I wonder if there is a plugin or mod to allow Xbox Series controller work with no problems and use the non-functional buttons.

      I find ACC to be the best of all the sims I've played with gamepad. Jimmy Broadbent did a video on AMS2 the other day which inspired me to try it again but I had the same problem I had with it before. The car doesn't feel like I'm steering it when I play with controller. The steering wheel barely even moves in cockpit and yet my car is whipping back and forth like a windshield wiper when I move the stick one way or the other. Even when in a turn the wheel barely moves. It feels more like I'm playing an FPS and using A D A D strafing when I steer instead of actually steering and I have yet to find any gamepad settings that actually make it feel like I'm steering a car. ACC on the other hand feels great and looks fairly natural when I drive with gamepad on it, especially once you turn off the steering assist setting.

    U can play almost every racing game with a controller. Can be fun IF u don't try to be competitive. If u do, u gonna be frustrated.

    Is WRC 8 good on controller?

    • @ElShogoso
      @ElShogoso 2 года назад +1

      It's ok. Very sensitive though. WRC9 and 10 are a little better in that regard. Feels great on the dirt tracks but you need to be extremely precise with your inputs in the tarmac ones.
      DR 2.0 has better pad support.

      I could really use some help if figuring out my controller settings I'm usually a pretty good driver but all the RUclips videos I've seen are extremely difficult to figure out everything also when I turn the wheel the way they have it set up he really turns his hands fast how do I change that

    • @gate-10
      @gate-10 2 года назад

      @@jeremysloane3921 that’s because the controller has such a small range of input that the game has to turn that in to a full steering movement from left to right… that’s on standard settings! If you want it slower, you have to turn down your sensitivity! I’m on standard settings cause I managed to drive with it! I didn’t change it cause if it’s faster I can save my car faster if you know what I mean? Like if my back wants to turn because of oversteer, I can save that really fast if I have it on standard sensitivity! If not you might get problems with that…

      Yes. And only keyboard. Mouse is just used for side/back looking. But for years we played only on keyboards or digital controllers and everything was totally fine. Obviously not as great as with analog devides (analog controllers and steerring wheel) but once you get used to it it's good.

    Assetto Corsa and Controller (XB1 and PS5 DS) is NOT good. Even with your settings understeering is a total mess, always annyoingand you always tend to understeer your car in curves.
    You have no appropriate haptic feedback on controllers. Also breaking would urgently need Dual Sense support, as your car always tends to spin when intensively breaking.
    Good racing games for controller are Need for Speed Shift 1 with community patch 1.05 and Shift 2.
    Good rally games are Dirt Rally 2.0 and WRC Generation (PS5 DS)

    Doing a video about controllers and not knowing the difference between vibrations and haptic feedback...

    • @albertmas3752
      @albertmas3752 Год назад

      Vibration and haptic feedback on controllers is mostly the same in the way that HF uses vibration. Both exist to comunicate to the player certain conditions in the game but while simple vibration is exactly what its name means, haptic uses a large array of different kinds of vibration to comunicate different events in the game. And HF has been with us since PlayStation1 era as its 1st DualShock used 2 differently sized engines to generate multiple kinds of vibration (opposed to Dreamcast & N64 that used only 1 engine and could only do longer or shorter vibrations).
      Sony focuses on the "haptic" feature because it looks something fancy and new tech (and that sells consoles as the PS5 "magic" SSD did) but it's been with us since PS1 era.
      So next time you talk about haptic feedback and vibrations educate yourself a little about it because Overtake_gg said nothing wrong about it.

    good review but i have something to say, which pun intended, "really grinds my gears" .. ACC why have kunos enforced using L2/R2" the left and right triggers, for accelarate and brake? what made them believe that all controller players want these inputs for those parameters?, because i for 1 have ALWAYS used L2/R2 as gear down and gear up respectively .....and i have ALWAYS used the right analouge stick as accelarate and brake........what's more EVERY other sim allows the player to do this EVEN including Kunos original game and prob the best game with a controller imho assetto corsa...it's arrogant and bigoted attitude, to presume something so fundamental for the player......to me it's a bit like not having inverse controls on a flight sim or first person shooter....and it's simply disrespetful...other than that the game is ok with a controller
    easiest sim on controller snowrunner & ETS2/ATS yeah i know they are not racing games ...in snow runner using the triggers for acc/brake is acceptable ..but only because of the nature of the game, my fav i already mentioned it, is the original assetto corsa, best mod? , you were using it, content manager , it may of been forgotten bu the original automobilista apart from being better then the sequel was also great with a controller
    cheers

    • @albertmas3752
      @albertmas3752 Год назад

      Because using the analog triggers is the best way to play with the controller. 1st of all using right thumb you lose access to the main buttons. 2nd and most important: in sim racing using right thumb for accel/brake is ok for beginners but when you're more advanced many times you need tu brake while still puching accelerator and that's totally imposible using Right Thumb for it. Literally, using right thumb for speed control you lose access to 4 buttons as you cannot speed up or brake and use those buttons at the same time. With analog triggers you have 2 fingers on the triggers, 2 more on bumpers and right thumb free for any other extra option you may need which includes access to start/back, right stick and A/B/X/Y buttons while still being in control of acceleration and brake.
      Right Thumb for speed control was the only way to go during PS1 and PS2 era. The Dual Shock and Dual Shock 2 controllers didn't have analog triggers so you were forced to use the analog thumb. But after Dual Shock 3 (PS3) came out that previous configuration was pointless and it was scrapped from games or added as an extra config but never the default one.

      @@albertmas3752 best way for you,,, and that's it, do not imply it is the best way,, for all, that's exactly what kunos did here and it's bigoted. and what's more completely uneccassary, what they should of done is allowed the player to choose what they want.. it's really simple.
