That's shitty of them tbh have they even tried playing the game before they started to hate on it? Great video and thanks for saying at the start that there's no shame in turning down the zombie populations! One of the things that stood out to me about PZ almost 10 years ago was its unbridled customisability, being able to tailor the apocalypse experience and make it fun for almost any player and playstyle sets it apart from the crowd then and now! I've recently been getting back into it myself again after a long break, many updates have passed so vids like this really help! Cheers!
I'm glad you found the video enjoyable Feldynn. 🙂 A lot of people seem to think it's 'HARD MODE' or no mode and that's not really the case with Zomboid. I'd rather players started the game on a super low pop and got used to the game, rather than smashing their faces into a wall on apocalypse setting and giving up on this FANTASTIC game. I'm super happy to see you've been getting back into this game again though! You'll have to let me know how you get on and if you have any questions or anything, be sure to fire away! 🙂
@@Aidanomic Spot on mate, the more people that can enjoy PZ in its myriad of ways the better! Mostly I've been testing options and trying trying a variety of character builds, I picked up the game late 2013 but took a big break from it (probably 5 years at least) so there's a metric tonne of new stuff to learn! Currently running a modified "Initial Infection" preset to get used to the game again, starting at the beginning of the apocalypse seems like a good place to begin 😁. And so far I'm absolutely loving it! Most recent character was a Security Guard that lasted just over 7 days, a thick foggy morning I stopped to check a church enroute to a storage facility and got caught by the sudden appearance of a group of zombies that arrived at the door just as I opened it and ran out.. that was how I died!
I'm super super glad to hear you're still enjoying the game. It's come a long way since its release in 2013. The next update (Build 42) is going to be incredible! Zomboid truly has an amazing future ahead of itself!
Thanks for these tips. I'm not opposed to tough games, but my free time is limited and I wanted to actually survive long enough in this game to actually get a base set up and experience as much as I can.
These are all good ideas for new players! I set my corpse removal for 100, but for new players shorter is better. I also like to set my loot lower than normal, but set the Randomized Houses, Vehicles, and Zones a little higher. I set the Annotated Maps a little higher too. I think that makes the game feel more alive, since it is a single player game. The Annotated Maps kind of give players quests too. Players can also turn on the “Select All Outfits” option so you can pick your clothes that fit your character. Did you mention the green outline in another video? That’s a good one for new players too. Some players turn it off after a while, but it’s hard to see zombies behind trucks and signs so I leave it on.
The green outline has been mentioned in another video. I didn't bother mentioning anything like 'Select All Outfits' as it isn't really going to help new players survive the game.
The 2 hour days means byebye to seeing different seasons. A lot of players that can survive few months get bored around 3-4 months. With days twice as long make that 1-2 months. So you get to see barely start of autumn before you already find all important items in the game and have nothing much to do apart from mods. I think winter is really cool experience and goal to aim for, but with this setting it'll be completely unrealistic to assume you make it that far into the game. Also pretty sure all your bars like hunger, thirst, fatigue drop down 50% slower due to days being twice as long. Basically time for everything ticks down in slowmotion. It's essentially easier to play 2 hour day on Insane pop then if you played 1 hour day on Normal pop. It completely messes up with the difficulty.
Totally disagree with this. The 2 hour days allows you more time to get things set up and ready and is EXTREMLEY good for both new players AND those that are playing on high populations. If the player is getting bored around 3-4 months than they should be changing their sandbox settings, by either making loot more rare or increasing the number of zombies that there is. Again I totally disagree with your last comment, try playing on a 16x pop on either 1 or 2 hour days and I am sure it won't be as easy as you think it is haha
@@Aidanomic My computer can't handle even 6x near the Mall and a lot of Louisville so not an option for me even with blood turned off and I'm sure a lot of players will not have high end hardware either, but anyway the seasons are really cool and having new player goal to prep for winter and living through it to spring is a goal you can only do on 1 hour days. For me it's like the ultimate test to see whether you're still beginner or a veteran, setting tailored around things you like, but turning down difficulty only takes away from the accomplishment. The game is meant to be difficult and the moodles are some of the few challenging aspects which you basically trivialize with this setting.
@laires3355 this guide is meant for basically new players to survive a first week or a month. Two hour days is going to help them with that, the same as turning down the difficulty setting would. I'd rather players turned down the difficulty setting and get used to the game, then have them constantly smash their head into a wall trying to figure out how to survive.
If this guide was for gigachad and BIG MODE players than I would have done that on the title and its more than possible to survive till winter on 2 hour days.
Great explanations of all the functions. Been playing Zomboid for a week and legit couldn't last longer than 1 day ingame. Many of the houses I spawned in had no weapons and as soon as i went outside i got swarmed even when sneaking
Thanks! The tutorial in the game sucked and the game was really hard for beginners, and I was so frustrated I uninstalled the game. Came back to it after watching some videos of it to give it another shot. Your video should have been the main video for beginners for this game.
The tutorial in the game is very ambiguous. I appreciate the VERY kind words it really means a lot, the game is easy to play but hard to master. It takes a LONG while to get used to everything and the mechanics but I 100% recommend sticking it out and giving the game a chance.
I like how people let you play the way you play because alot of old pz player saying its not fun when new player said like i turn off respawn/multiplier or they would backseating the new player.
Hello, late to the party. I've had the game for a while but finally decided to start the learning process and I hate my life. Lmao. Ripped on day 16 after countless attempts while trying to avoid Google as much as possible. The one major problem is actually getting a run going. Every corner you turn there is mini hordes all over the place. It is a nightmare at times. I think the game strongly needs some sort of "grace period" option for those starting out. As it is right now without manually tweaking a bunch of settings I think it's just to much. I've actually had a couple spawns where I load in and there is zombies in the house with me so I immediately die. My record on that is 37 seconds in game time (I have instant zombification, saves me time waiting to kick the bucket) Overall the game is great albeit slightly demoralising at times but if there was no way to tweak things I'd have probably dropped it. Will probably give these settings a go after my next rip. Thanks!
How do I set it to Very low respawns? Do I set: Respawn hours to something like 6000? Do I need to touch unseen and multiplier? Thanks :o (also, the hours are in game hours right? ^^) sry Im dumb : P
You change the respawn multiplier to like 0.1 and then the hours to whatever you want, that means that 0.1 of your population will respawn over that many in game hours and yes that is indeed in game hours :)
In the Sandbox Mode, you can pick Builder as the "base" setting. Than lower the level of difficulty in each item according to your personal preference. The builder settings are more first-timer friendly. So, a real first-timer should lower some of the builder settings in order to enjoy and to learn more about the game before being slaughters by those horrible Zeds. LOL
@@Aidanomic I learned how to fight zeds slowly because I am not used to the keyboard control. It is standard for many games; however, I haven't been playing many PC games for a LOOOONG while. I play on low zombie settings and no respawn, its better than getting eaten by tens of zombies without standing a chance right at the beginning.
