The boss that gave her that discount despite the fact she was given 48 hours yet she showed up 2 weeks later is exactly why these customers continue to act like this.
I’m convinced that management exists to reward bad behavior. At the store I work at now we have a strict policy for returns. We cannot accept the items if the tags have been removed… that is unless the customers whine and complain to a manager than they get exactly what they want which only allows them to do the same thing again in the future.
No. NO. NO. no, no, no, no, No! NO! Other manager should have told her no. The world might be a better place if some of these entitled jerks get told no more often.
Her manager is not unique. The crazy shit I saw my manager let customers get away with, I tell you. And it's all done because they think that their reuptation will somehow be ruined if they stand up to these people (fyi, 'these people', these 'karens', are TOTALLY all 100% of them, government employees. That's why they behave this way.)
"I DECIDE WHO GETS TO TOUCH IT" was me at 7 years old getting unreasonably and unjustifiably angry at my 4-year-old brother for touching one (1) toy of the many toys that I was playing with
Or the only toy you weren't playing with. Someone else touched it and kid brain kicks in and is like "excuse me!? THAT. IS. MINE! You can't touch it unless I say so and because you touched it before I said so you can't have it!" Proceeds to move on to another toy "Not that one either! It's special!" Lol. Sorry, being reminded of the dumb kid arguments we all had as kids always makes me laugh.
The amount of contempt and passive aggresion you gave her is just fucking hilarious. I love it. I remember when I worked at Fry's electronics and someone tried to buy a gaming steering wheel that was really expensive. some customer moved it to another spot and he was mad that the price didn't match. the assistant manager told him no that we weren't going to do that. the tags on the shelf clearly said that it was something else and wasn't just a number. he Karened so hard that the manager came out and just gave it to him. What made me quit was shortly after that, we had this one kid who the manager took a liking to. He was super lazy and like 17. at one point I caught him putting DVDs back while he was laying on his side on the ground. I said that he shouldn't be laying on the ground, not only is it just fucking lazy when were all working hard, but a customer could trip over him. He brushed me off. I told the manager and he did nothing about it. Later that day the same kid was talking about how he was a harder worker than the rest of us who were running around doing shit all day and helping customers find the right product while he literally laid down on the job and I told him off and said he was lazy and he didn't know what he was talking about and he apparently told the manager and went home crying. The manager came over and yelled at me and said I had no right to say that. I told the manager off. The next day I was supposed to work and my friends invited me out to sushi and I said I couldn't cus I had to work. They told me to just bail that it was bullshit. I didn't show up and I ate sushi for the first time in my life. best decision ever.
I would have reverse Uno'd that discount nonsense. "I want a discount for this situation." "I can do that for you, we'll be charging a storage fee though."
Managers undermining direct reports on the policy they're required to adhere to is why these people get this bad. Each time this happens, it tells them that they can be as terrible as they want, as long as they push the right buttons and talk to the right person, they can get exactly what they want. If it didn't work, they wouldn't do it. It's really frustrating.
you get yelled at for overpouring because you went half a count beyond what you were instructed to, or even under what you were instructed to, and then get yelled at because someone thinks their drink's not strong enough, as if I bought the glasses or threw my voice out your mouth
You have 48 hours to pick it up or it goes back onto the sales floor to be sold, you will get your money back minus a processing fee of $50 unless you call and make alternate arrangements for a longer period.
Honestly even then telling someone with INFECTED EYES to GET THEIR EYES CHECKED is not an attitude that can be passed off as genuine concern. Maybe that’s me being autistic and saying what I mean often coming off as rude when not intended but still for the higher up to not even note that her eyes are literally not working??????

I adore my current event manager! I refused to sell someone a ticket because 1. Registration was closed and 2. The amount of trouble you’ll get in from your higher ups will depend on the store you’re working for, but as the current representative of the store you are working for, you have the legal right to tell an abusive customer to leave and then trespass them if they refuse (i.e. call the police and have them removed). I personally would not have done so to this woman, but I probably would have gotten my boss involved a lot sooner just so I didn’t have to listen to the circular bs anymore or take the fall for giving her a completely unwarranted discount. I took a lot of abuse during Covid and my final days working retail, and I’ve just made it my mission to give people the permission I felt I needed to stand up for oneself. You might get in trouble with the higher ups to some degree or another unless you were pretty fortunate in having very reasonable bosses like me (it was a family owned company, which makes a difference), but if you’re not ALLOWED to protect yourself in the most basic ways I would seriously look at getting work elsewhere. Retail jobs are easy enough to get into and even if they weren’t, no one should suffer abuse just for a few dollars an hour, and the more people stand up for themselves the more the higher ups will learn they need to do something different to hold employees. Just to be clear, I’m not saying we should berate people or get back at them in any way, but as a professional give yourself permission to remove yourself from a situation where you’re being verbally abused or ask the person to leave.

Same couple held me at their spot while they were "um"ing and "aw"ing at their menu but telling me not to walk away, and the other bartenders had to tend to my meals in my absence. They told me they didn't want soup then complained to both other tenders that they hadn't had their soup yet. Then made me get a manager to take a 2 dollar charge off of their linguini because they each got a shellfish dish which is 1 dollar more for linguini instead of the default rice or some shit. Shit lasted 25 minutes. People who spend over 40 bucks on dinner have no idea how food works.
In the film "Clerks", Randall has a line that sums up my whole experience working retail. "This job would be great if it wasn't for the fucking customers."
When I worked at a western store two years ago there was a lady who came in looking for a black pair of boots. I helped her to EVERY SINGLE pair of black boots in the store because she couldn’t make up her mind. Then she found a pair she liked but we didn’t have the size so I told her we could order it in and with an attitude that seemingly came out of nowhere she said “there better be a discount because it’s ridiculous that you don’t have my size!” I just smiled and politely told her that I wish I could, but I can’t offer a discount for ordering something into the store. When I went to go order it using our shitty old store kiosk it wouldn’t let me complete the order when I pressed on the screen. She was getting frustrated and said “what’s taking so long? I have to go, dude!” I calmly explained to her that it was not my doing, but the kiosk was just having a technical issue. She was making a fuss and my manager came over to see what the problem was and she asked my her if she could get a discount on the boots she was ordering to which my manager agreed to which only made me appear more like the bad guy to this woman. Finally, the kiosk responded but an error came up saying invalid payment. I naively told her that the payment was declined for some reason, and she snapped at me again “THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT CARD HAS A $5000 LIMIT.” I told her I may have just entered something in wrong (I had to hand key everything myself, the technology was that awful) it was then that I learned that the code on the back of her card was the wrong code. I’d only ever processed Visas and not American Express Cards and was unaware the CID was on the front of the card which is why the payment didn’t go through. She called me a few names, insulted my intelligence and threatened to have the order cancelled even after we had just given her 15% off of her order. She also said I was horrible at my job, that this was the worst experience and service she’s ever gotten in her life (dramatic much?) and that she would never return. She claimed that she would definitely know because she “had worked retail for many years” which I seriously still doubt because she wouldn’t be such a raging bitch if that was the case. I’ll never forget her last name, Faragasso or as I like to call her faragASSHOLE. I stood up for myself but my manager told me to stop arguing with the customer. I was a little more timid back then, so I just let it go but I can honestly say that after all this time, I too wish her only the worst in life and I’ll never understand these kind of people that are such jerks to the person who is trying their best to help them.
The undermining is unacceptable. And that's why people act like they do. Even people who are not upset will pretend to be upset & make a scene for a discount. How is she going to be looking into "cleaning options" for a dusty chair when she's rockin 2 dusty ass eyeballs for 2 weeks?! Maybe the dust/damage she was seeing was actually within her eyeballs.
Ah yeah, the good ole "boss swoops in and gives a discount and is now the good guy, even though said boss has yelled at you for giving discounts." That ones my favourite.
I quit a job because of the President’s wife. We had an educational foundation to benefit employees and their children. They made her in charge. 😳 She decided she could just make up rules after I met with the committee explaining the restrictions of the FOUNDATION board. I had kids coming to get reimbursed for unapproved items. I had to tell her those were not approved by the board. So she actually gets her changes approved by COMPANY board. I had to explain to the idiot “wrong board” company board has zero control over the foundation. She was such a B to the foundation board that they gave her what she wanted and then resigned. B had hubby write email to GM trashing me for not kissing her 🍑. Gave my notice (6 months). I got called back 7 years later to get them through the audit working remotely (at auditors request) they had to pay me a boatload of money 🤣 I wasn’t there but I got a video from the annual meeting praising me up and down for saving them. Yes they had to sit through it. 🤣
Wow sounds like you really did your best to do your job professionally and give your manager wiggle room to deny a rude customer a discount. It's funny how you frame yourself as a hero when you clearly made your bosses job harder before they even arrived to help you, honestly it's probably a good thing you quit, it'll leave open a space for someone who can handle it.
Sounds like to me you got mouthy with a customer, provided no real customer service at all, in fact didn't even try to provide REAL friendly service, then proceeded to make the ACTUAL bosses job harder, forcing them to give special treatment to the customer, and getting you fired. Because if it was really the last straw, you wouldn't have shown up for another shift, no one does.

Good for you.
Kaelin PLEASE post the Jay Jill story I need to send it to my friend so badly 🙏
You are so beautifully amazing ❤ one day I hope to post about every disgusting boss I've ever had❤much love!!!
I don’t remember if you said…did you tell them why you’re quitting? Did they have any defense for overriding their own rules and workers?
People SUCK good on u
Why didn't your boss tell you when you COULD give a discount?
I feel that :(
The discout is all that ut takes to nake disrespectful behavior ok when it's not
So what did they say when you quit?
Wow. Looks like you suffered for your art on this one. WTH did you do to get your eyes to look like that?😲
U gorgeous 😍
Honestly if you would've pulled the cutting me off to ask me how I'm doing while ignoring me when I'm trying to talk, I wouldn't have left with a sofa, I would've left in cuffs
My God I just looked at your channel, all you do is complain huh? I hope this pays the bills because I don't see you with any other job for any meaningful amount of time.
Pale of FEET she Awesome REAL 🫳🏾🫴🏾🫴🏻🫳🏻🌷🌷🌷🌷💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓👁️.👁️
You should not be working retail you should be modeling.
Didn't you quit your job already???
I work at a Ross in CA and people LOVE asking for discounts for DUST!!! like come on bro, you're most likely gonna wash this so it's most likely gonna come off! My favorite is when they ask for a discount bc the box is SLIGHTLY damaged, like it's gonna get THROWN AWAY!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 it's literally already DISCOUNTED.
