  • 3ds Max Tutorial - Cloth Simulation MassFX
In this 3ds max tutorial I show you how to do cloth simulations using MassFX. In this tutorial you will learn how to apply a basic mCloth modifier to a plane, and also how to attach your cloth to an animated object using a preserve vertex group. You can use this technique to create clothing in 3dsmax etc. I also show you how to add wind to your scene that will affect the cloth simulation.
Any questions regarding 3dsmax cloth simulations please ask away in the comments below and I will try my best to answer.
Let me know if there is any specific tutorial you would like to see on this channel.

HI, nice tutorials, just one question, can you explain or make a tutorial how can i make a trampoline with mcloth... i create a circle, garment maker and mcloth applied and preserve all borders vertex. create some spheres as dynamic rigid body droping in the circle and they dont bounce, they pass true the cloth even with rigid body colisions turned on!

i have modelled a terrace with a wide door. i have some thin curtains hanging in in front of the door as well as the windowfront besides. when i apply a windforce, will all curtains sway or just the ones in the opened door? will it know that the windows are a solid object where no windforce will pass? im just asking because im about to get me some fancy plugins, but i dont know wich ones to get yet. but cloth simulation is something i need in the long run.

Pieter Vogt I think so yes! If the solid objects are part of your simulation then it will work as in real life. Start by doing some simple tests - that's how I am learning at the moment :) You can also animate the wind strength so that is another option to up the value when the door opens etc...

im not even animating, dude. totally basic stuff here. just architectural renderings :) i was thinking if there is some sort of box i can limit the wind with, like in fumeFX. would obviously have the shape of the opened door :P

Pieter Vogt yeah any objects might work - or maybe deflectors. Give it a try ;)

Looks cool though I still don't know where to use it on practice. Thanks!

The cloth animation at the end is all wrong. The cloth is going the wrong way and it just does not look right. 34 of your views some how convinced you that you did a good job. Be honest dude you are being praised for a big fuck up.
You are also supposed to switch the mCloth property from kinetic before it hits anything to dynamic when it hits.. You have it set to dynamic all the way making the cloth have a force field rather than reacting to a collision.
