I assume you mean renting vs. buying and we always suggest renting first to get acclimated to what to expect out here before jumping into an impulse purchase. It is hard to sell property later because the market is so flooded then your stuck

What neighborhood are you living in???
When you quoted $400 to $800 a month I automatically thought you’re in Sosúa or Cabarete.
I have paid between $80 (1br, 1ba) and $120 (2br, 1ba) in the Monte Rico neighborhood of Santiago where Estrella Sadhalá crosses Avenida Tamboril. It’s very safe, lived there five years with NO PROBLEMS or close calls.

I have native fluency in Spanish having been a interpreter/translator since the 1980s and that helps A LOT as I'm able to talk to people to find out about apartments.
ALL the apartments I've had were by word of mouth. That's how 99% Dominicans do it, just drive into an area and ask at a colmado and look for signs about apartments for rent.
If you use rental agencies, websites and/or newspapers the prices will be very high.

Good video the last one about the Healthcare is super cheap...... wow I'm disgusted with the prices for payouts even with an insurance policy they out here breaking peoples pockets its sad.
Did you guys bring your own household items or did you purchase there? I am debating which is a better option for me, I have my Dominican residence through my wife, but I'm not sure which is less expensive, to ship my stuff or sell it and by new.

Same as the states, 1st month last month and security deposit sometimes and if a real estate agent helps they get one month of the agreed upon rent as their commission.

Nice looking Gato in the background. Thank you guys for the info. I was in Boca Chica back in August of 2018 for 7 days.Rented a nice Villa for $188..It was in a nice area and the Villa was great looking and updated and it came with two nice bedrooms. Me and my female friend that was born in Boca Chica had a ball.

Yes we do, yes all the appliances with an American water heater & all HOA fees for the property & our amenities are also included. We only had to buy a stackable full sized washer & dryer

I'm a early retired Army Vet....I'm 45, retired at 43....been travel for the last two years. Currently in Tanzania... starting in Mexico, to the Philippines, to South African...then on to the Arusha, Tanzania.
I have SSDI AND 100% VA.
Now I will be traveling to DR in December 2020.
Question: When renting, do I need Security Deposits with the first months rent? In Africa, I had to pay all my 6 months rent upfront.

About your incidence on the Nacional supermarket, go and complain to the manager and I’ll bet you that will be fired . Dominicans are not prejudice . Don’t generalize because of one nuckle head. You guys could to mars and I’ll bet you that one day you will find some one that is outline and have hatreds in their heart. You find people going to schools in the us and start shooting innocent kids. Hates is everywhere, there’s too much In dr.

These are general prices we noted that they will be on the high end for cities like Santo Domingo & Punta Cana but cheaper in outlying cities👂🏼so that is why there are the LOW & HIGH end budgets stated
