    I have hope for this based on what the director said in an interview.
    “We all saw it as our job to basically not touch as much as we could, leave Charlie’s writing as much as we could. We wanted to add more physical stakes. To me, it was mostly about the stakes being really clear. [It was] about what the characters wanted and making sure the audience felt that… The rest was Charlie making an incredible script for us.” - Sean Charmatz

    Knowing Kaufman and his work, I have a feeling that this movie is going to be more than just a kid being afraid of the dark. Prepare for an existential field trip, kids!

      @Accountnamehere1968 11 месяцев назад +3

      Particularly because last I recall, Kaufman wanted it to be as faithful to his script as possible.

      The trailer purposefully keeps out a bunch of Kaufman stuff. Its tone is definitely a marketing move to make the film more appealing to regular audiences

    Well, I read the short children’s book this was based on to kids when I worked in a daycare. Was maybe 20 pages long. Did not expect to see it interpreted by fucking Kaufman.

      Kaufman saw what Spike Jonze did with Where the Wild Things Are and thought “challenge accepted”

    The premise of this movie reminds me of “Scary Godmother” where a scared girl gets to know a witch, skeleton, and furry. They teach her to not be scared of monsters.

    Was looking to see if Charlie Kaufman had done any other animated films other than like Anomalisa. Apparently he consulted on Kung Fu Panda 2?!?

    • @michaelstrong5383
      @michaelstrong5383 11 месяцев назад +29

      That would explain why the script of Kung Fu Panda 2 was so great.

      Knew about that before, and that's not that surprising to me actually considering how it dealt with themes of genocide and trauma.

      Yeah! Specifically, he was a script consultant for the movie, but he went uncredited, it’s on the movie’s IMDb page if your curious

    • @dracocrusher
      @dracocrusher 11 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, that makes sense. Kung Fu Panda 1 was already a really good movie (despite being a bit generic), but I feel like 2 genuinely is just better and there's so much about it that works so much more than you'd ever expect it to.

    I honestly really dig this. It might be mid, but they've got a unique style going, we're going to do a whole character-focused thing about exploring his fears and having what seems to be this visual metaphor for how he feels about the world, it's giving me the impression it'll be a whole "Scary things aren't always bad" type of deal which is usually pretty fun...
    I don't think it's going to be amazing, but yeah, this looks cool. I'd watch it.

    I usually agree with Adum's take on the 4k thing, but with animation I don't really think it's that big of a deal because it's not as simple as just filming it in 4K. The textures have to be made and rendered in 4K, as well as all the models which can be really intensive on a computer, and you're talking about at least TRIPLING the render-time & computing power if you wanna export the animation in 4k. Not saying it isn't possible, but maybe with some of these budgets it just isn't worth it to.

  • @stefenlunn113
    @stefenlunn113 11 месяцев назад +10

    Adum, the simple fact is that a vast majority of subscription based users simply cannot and do not tell the difference between 1080p and 4k. I've sat with family members and watched the quality dip to what is clearly 480p even on high speed connection premium subs, and nobody in the room bats an eye.
    It's cheaper for server space and bandwidth costs, so I'm sure Netflix and Co. has already done tests and calculations to figure our the bare minimum they need to get customers, even the ones that pay for 4k.
    The percentage of people who understand compression in the context of streaming is less than 0.1% of the user base, and that vocal minority spits out so much misinformation that the average user will likely not ever figure it out.

    Why hire Kaufman to make a script if they're gonna change it later, and more probably than not, dumb it down. The style is kind of bland for me, kind of boring, in a time when animated movies have become quite experimental with their styles.
