Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci (Cas-tah-LOO-chee) is a founding member of VoicePlay, when it started off as 4:2:Five back in the mid-90s right out of high school - so he's been making music for a few years now. He and Layne Stein (beatboxer) split the arranging duties for most of VoicePlay's songs, with Eli (ellie) Jacobson also doing a few (but becoming more active).
For his solo channel, he has light instrumentation on his songs - he keeps the a cappella work reserved for VoicePlay. Pianos and keyboards are all done by Geoff, and he uses plugins on his keyboards for the other instruments he needs. All of the vocals you hear will also be Geoff, layered to cover all of the parts he needs. He also arranges, directs, films (sometimes with help, as in this case where Layne was the steadicam operator) edits, and make an initial mix of the sound - final mix is done by Ed Boyer, who mixes almost all of the big a cappella groups around. Eli will usually provide the lighting, and sometimes Geoff will get some help with makeup - but the vast majority of the work is done by Geoff and his wife/production manager Kathy.
FYI: I would really recommend getting a good pair of headphones (or at least good earbuds) to listen to music, especially a cappella songs. Unless you've got a studio-quality speaker setup, I can guarantee you'll be missing some things - those low notes that you said were shaking your table would be shaking your BONES with a good set of headphones!

This one is such a brave one because it's such a favorite old song for many of us "oldsters".
Each song Geoff covers is approached with appreciation for the original and gives it new life. Plus his talents are exceptional. Even when he covers songs that I don't know or love, he brings me on his interpretive journey and somehow converts me into a fan of his piece.

Super nice and "real" video, thanks 🫶🏻
Geoff does not only sing, he reaches right out to your soul and makes you FEEL the song and the lyrics ❤
You can't go wrong with any of his songs 🙏🏼
If you want a split second to prepare for his earth shaking lows, you have to watch his hands 😉

The first album I ever bought was Simon and Garfunkel "Sounds of Silence". I've been getting emotional with this song for 6 decades now. Geoff (Jeff) did this song proud.

Geoff has a magical way of making the emotions match the lyrics better than any artist I know. Even the original artist. He did this brilliantly with Ain't no sunshine too. So much talent and feeling

I really enjoyed this reaction. You could tell that you really appreciated his talent. You can't go wrong with anything in his repertoire. He's a bass singer, but he had a 5 octave range, so all the high harmonies you heard were him. Also, shout out to his fellow Voiceplay members Eli (rhymes with jelly) for doing the lighting on this video and Layne on steadicam.

You wouldn't be the only one that cried. I know I did the first few times I heard it. I think Geoff (pronounced Jeff Cast-a-lou-chee) did an amazing job on this. I feel like he was really trying to portray the loneliness silence brings. How it separates us from each other.
To me it felt as if this was happening on an echoing, empty, dark stage and somehow also all in his head (the vision in my brain) Additionally, there are some harmonies and phrasings that are truly just gorgeous in this. Especially the line about 'echoing in the well'. And that last 'whoosh' back over to the piano at the end, where it all goes quiet and dark again.

This man has a beautiful voice no matter what range he sings in. All the background are him as well.
Every one of his videos are fantastic.
    I recommend for Geoff (Jeff)...
High and Dry. I See Fire. Ghost Riders In The Sky. Unshaken. Jack's Lament.
I chose these because he uses his full range going super high and super low.
Unshaken are the 4 ghost riders when they were alive.
But anything you choose to listen to you won't go wrong with.
My favorites however are.... Unshaken. Rains of Castemere. Ain't No Sunshine.
    Way Down.

As well as singing all the parts he also plays all the parts from a plugin in his keyboard. And does the arrangement, the video editing, decides the sets etc. Jack's Lament and Way Down would make great choices for your next reaction to Geoff.

And the worst part is he’s a really nice humble guy too. Like jeez give the guy one flaw at least. 😂
Great reaction. You can’t go wrong with any of his songs (and his RUclips shorts too he’s got some cracking mini songs there). His newest song “You don’t mess around with Jim” a Jim Croce cover is a lot of fun.
Subbed to see where this Voiceplay/Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci journey takes you and if you want more acapella recommend some of Voice Plays buddies over at Home Free.

Just (Jeff). Geoff's version is the best cover I've ever heard. So beautiful, tender, and worthy. I understand your emotions, it affects me the same way. Thanks for letting us see what it meant to you. One that doesn't get a lot of play is Till Then. It's a song written from the perspective of a fellow leaving to serve in WW2 and hoping his love will wait for him, Till Then. Memorial Day sure made me think about it.

Thank you for an amazing reaction to Geoff (Jeff ). He has a way of reaching deep down into your soul. In every one of his solo videos all the voices you hear are all him. Usually he likes to clone himself 3 or 4 times to harmonize with himself. In this video he chose to keep them behind the scenes. Most people don't know that the Italian alphabet doesn't have a ( J ) in it. So because he is Italian the name Jeff is spelled with a ( G ). I love your reactions, keep up the good work ❤

    • @bjspeck4337

@@bjspeck4337Geoffrey is the spelling they use in the UK. I have known three guys who spelled their name that way and each of them had ancestral roots in the UK. According to Wikipedia, it is derived from Germanic, French and Anglo-Saxon languages. The G does make that sound in Italian, but I only found one reference where they said it was the Italian translation of Jeffrey spelled the way we spell it here in the United States. But then again his last name is Castellucci so maybe they spelled it that way because of that translation.🤷🏼‍♀️

love your reaction. Geoff can make you feel the songs as you have never felt them before. Try "Ain't No Sunshine" that one gets me every time I hear it. Also check out "16 Tons", "Far Over the Misty Mountain Cold", "I See Fire", "Jack's Lament", "Wicked Game", "Unshaken" and his latest is "Don't Mess Around with Jim", which was originally sung by Jim Croce and released in 1972.

Geoff is pronounced Jeff. All the voices you hear in the background are all Geoff. He named his clones when he covered Elvis song Way Down. They are Goff, Jeoph and Jeff. He added the clone Daryl in his cover of Ghost Riders In The Sky.

I think one of the best ways to describe the emotions of this song is:
    The Original was the warning
Disturbed's is the anger for not heading the warning
Geoff's (Jeff) is the sorry for not heading the warning, but there is still a glimmer of hope.
Thanks for your reaction, this song is among my top 5 from Geoff's solo channel.
You should check out his versions of Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold and I See Fire.

Say it as Jeff Casteloochi. :) HIs surname is Italian though Geoff is short for Geoffrey and is commonly used in the UK. CC in Italian is pronounced as CH. Geoff's arrangements always brings the feels to any song he does. Be aware that Geoff also creates all his backing, using piano or keyboard with plugins. Love your reaction. Yes he has such a beautiful soothing voice. And a huge 5 octave range.
