The brake dust on my base C7 stingray was insane. I was washing my car every 7 days just to keep the rims clean. I can't wait to see what this hybrid is going to be like :D Regen braking = less dust
Carbon ceramic brakes create zero dust. It’s one of the hidden benefits nobody talks about. Cost, loudness, and Initial bite in wet conditions are the only downsides. CCBs are the best 🤌
I'm proud. This car is the gold standard of quality, craftmanship and value. While we are at uncertain times, GM continues to keep it real from an engineering aspect. Hopefully, employee relations issues will get ironed out soon.
That was a fantastic video. Big Corvette fan here. I owned a C3 and a C4 when I was younger and I bought a C7 Z06 five years ago that I daily drive April through October. Not sure if I will ever upgrade to a C8 unless they offer a manual transmission at some point, but that is one amazing car. Thanks Jay and Tadge.
Unfortunately they made it "impossible" to put a manual in the c8. They made the central tunnel boxed off at all sides. So they knowingly killed the manual permanently🤦♂️😠
@@flexinclouds So sad... Half the fun of driving is rowing your own gears. I will always want manual trannys in my "fun" cars. Right now that includes a C6 LT1 Camaro and a 2020 Miata. Both have fabulous 6-spd trannys. No automatic will EVER compare IMHO. 🙂
Besides Porsche, and only on some models, what high end “super car” has a manual tranny any longer. Rocking Chair memories boys. Keep ‘em, if ya got ‘em.

Thanks for all the years of incredible Corvette engineering Tadge...you are a Legend and congrats on your retirement! This is a dream car...and yet, attainable! Looking forward to the used market here in a few years. LOVE the E-Ray!!!
Undoubtedly won't cover the main issue: production. The Z06 is still $200k + everywhere. No control over markups. Not enough supply to meet demand. Corvette used to mean a high performance car that the average person could hope to get one day, no more.
@@joshuad1716that isn't true. There are lists hundreds of people long for dealers with only 2 allocations a month or less. The Z06 might drop to 10-20k or MSRP by 2028 for people not on the lists. Ugly rear end anyway, I won't be trading my C7 in even if they were msrp
Well, the math dictates they had to save costs somewhere. Not that it's a bad thing, but is an overlooked and most difficult skill in engineering. It doesn't take much talent to build performance with no budget limit. Maximizing the cost/performance ratio and choosing the best compromises and making those up elsewhere is very difficult, and Corvette has done it.
Again! - sure has been wonderful watching them evolve the car over the years - I'm sad that zora-duntov didn't get to see his mid-engine dream become reality...
I picked up my New C8 Corvette HTC on October 6,2023. I originally ordered the 2023 C8 HTC mid December 2022. My dealer called me the end of July to tell me that I was getting a 2024 HTC C8. I picked it up on October 6,2023. Really enjoying driving it. ❤
@Landcruiser150 Take a pickup truck here in sweden, the price is always a lot higher, almost 3 times higher and the insurance is so expensive that only companies use them, and the gas price is also much higher, more then double compared to the US.
Looking forward to this one. I just dropped a sweet custom z06 to an 83 year old man who had to wait 3 years to get it because of the pandemic. Poor guy really didn't think he'd live to see it!
I want an EV. I want a little pickup virtually identical to the ones I had in the 90's and 00's except with an electric drivetrain. But people willing to sign up for a lifetime of debt and paying interest would rather have luxury and performance than utility. That's why most EVs are luxury and performance cars and all automakers stopped making 90's mini trucks.
A big factor with the smaller trucks disappearing is the 25% tariff on light trucks that comes from the Chicken Tax from the 60s that we haven't been able to get rid of...
@@MakoSDV the whole point of the chicken tax was to give American automakers an advantage. Even with that advantage American automakers knew they can make more money selling midsize pickups with more luxury and performance to people who didn't have any money than selling utility to people and companies paying cash.
I really like interviews like this. Two guys - one that loves cars and another than knows how to build and design them Just straight, honest and no BS.
Watching this video, you could just see those two driving from Costa Coast and never run out of something to say it’s really cool to have someone talk about a car and get as excited as he did about talking about it
Love how the GM guy stays poker faced and laser focussed on the chat, despite Jay's speed. He's clearly been in plenty of hard charging cars. Wonderful
Always a comprehensive vid hosted by a true car guy and the engineering is superb and should make any kid drawing his dream car in study hall want to aspire to one day own one. Unfortunately what the video/GM fails to address is the greedy dealership mark-ups which makes the MSRP somewhat irrelevant.
GM builds 3 cars and like 35 different trucks and SUVs. Corvette, Camaro (to be cancelled) and one Cadillac. Not many American cars are built anymore, as it's the same at Ford. Ford builds trucks and the Mustang.
A friend was recently looking at this car at a dealership in Souther Cal. There was a $50K premium adding to the purchase. He walked. He just bought one from a dealer in North-Central AZ with $0.00 premium. It cost him $94.5K. Good thing he didn’t have to add an extra $50K.
Do I have this right? The V8 engine drives the rear wheels and charges the battery while the battery powers the electric motors that drive the front wheels. Ingenious!!! That said this guy looks like Clint Eastwood.
Yeah it's a clever and innovative drivetrain. Hard to get right so power delivery feels natural and not intrusive, but it seems they got it right. Of course a lot of the charging is provided by regenerative braking too.

Tadge is spot on, a real enthusiast! Great episode. And the corvette obviously a great car and built to last as every excellent car.
***You know Tadge is getting up there and I was thinking GM must have a guy right on his heels following him around getting as much knowledge as they possibly can but man can he really be replaced? His knowledge of every nut and bolt on that Corvette is amazing especially when you think that he is designing a Corvette four years in the future from now so he has all those continuing Corvettes to think about as well. He is an amazing guy.***
My Grandfather used to own a Chevrolet dealership for over 45 years. I drove a ZO6 vette it was a 2004 model with 4,700 miles on the clock and this was in 2010 when I frist drove this car it was very FUN AND FAST I LOVE MY CHEVROLET AND GM HAVE ALLWAY BEEN A FAN. GREAT VIDEO JAY 🥳 👏 ❤❤❤❤
It is truly comforting to see Jay discovering new clothing materials. He's likely still rocking the all-cotton Fruit of the Looms but we won't go there. We'll leave that to the Subaru rep. after hell freezes over.
Did you see the episode where he showed all the jeans and stuff that he has. He has like 50 pairs of jeans and shirt
He looks a lot older. He's got old-woman flabby flapping triceps. Back to long sleeves, please!
Well Larry - we all get older. I just don't get the old people that wear jean material developed for miners when there are so many fabrics today that are as resiliant, but so much more comfortable. These wonderful fellas could both afford to stop wearing clothes made from civil war era canvas tents and then dyed blue. But enough. Terrific car. I am too old for corvettes too sadly. @@larrysmith6797
My 24 2LT Z51 wheels get really covered in dust. It will be Carbon Brakes on th Wed next one but I love the car othewise.
I'm proud. This car is the gold standard of quality, craftmanship and value. While we are at uncertain times, GM continues to keep it real from an engineering aspect. Hopefully, employee relations issues will get ironed out soon.
@44:40 - Such a great point! It’s not just the cost to buy it, it’s the cost to own it. Such amazing performance to cost value.
What an amazing interview. I wish more cars were designed and then presented to public by the engineers proudly standing behind their creations.
Thanks Jay and Tadge! Absolutely fascinating. Astounding accomplishment by the team!
@@flexinclouds You could still have a manual transmission sans the mechanical linkage
Hybrids rock. Mine is 13 years old and still smokes most other cars (normal hp rating) with very little effort and gets 35mpg. HV batteries still rocking almost as good as new after 150K miles.
What is it?

I took delivery on my 2023 2LT with the Z51 Performance package....what a car. My 5th Vette. GM got it right and then some! Great video.
Jay Leno
You are a true inspiration to me as an older guy (my self included). Your continued love for cars particularly sports cars will always keep me living to be in one. No matter how hard it may be for me to get in the thing to drive.
Bad Knees & Back…… I Love a sports car!
Great video Jay and Tadge! Very excited Can’t wait to have an opportunity to drive one! What a beast!
I'm so glad I watched this so I understand the technology this is incredible . Complete separate systems married together in unison out high-speed that's mind-boggling.
Love these sessions with Jay and Tadge. So down to earth and very informative. I wish I could get myself into a C8Z but unfortunately I can’t afford this car comfortably like my C7Z… the insane mark ups are probably the only downside (and im still a sucker for a true manual haha)
I love that colour for a Vette. Still one of the beat value super cars you can buy. Like Jay says 0:30. This video was impressive how Corvette's chief engineer talks about the great build quality showing a cross section cut car- you never see this otherwise. You can see how the the body is constructed and most manuf wouldn't give up this vantage point.
Hi Jay I live in Kapuskasig and I saw Corvette in cold weather test here for 30 years GW for 2 year now in cold and snow corvette _E_Ray in this Town ty Jay
Nice to see Mr Leno is back to full mobility with his knees.
And celebrating Carroll Shelby by putting his foot on the tyre to view the mechanics.
and Richard Petty....and Captain Morgan! lol -I noticed that too
I could listen to these guys talk for hrs.. Two Legends in a Legendary car! Outstanding 👍
Watching this two big kids enjoying a ride in the car they dreamed about in elementary school, priceless. ❤
With over 45 years of driving I owned many vehicles, mostly GM and never regretted it, can’t say that for the other makers vehicles I’ve owned 😮
Z06 is down to 10-20k mark up at most dealers and some are msrp….c8 values are falling hard already as well…
@@joshuad1716that isn't true. There are lists hundreds of people long for dealers with only 2 allocations a month or less. The Z06 might drop to 10-20k or MSRP by 2028 for people not on the lists. Ugly rear end anyway, I won't be trading my C7 in even if they were msrp
@@RepEvox Ugly? Wrong. This is the best looking Corvette ever.
@@RepEvox LOL a C7 owner talking about ugly rear ends?! 🤢
@@nyobunknown6983 saying wrong on a subjective opinion. Smart one we got here
Well, the math dictates they had to save costs somewhere.
Great episode. It's always the best when they get an engineer on to talk nitty gritty. It seems like Jay really enjoys that too
It's the little details that make such a huge difference!! How by just painting in all that black trim makes the Vette look 100 times better
Watching them get into the vett was classic! 😂
Great episode! 24:47
Fall into 😂
😅😅😅
When I get in to my C8.. I Is tried to be very careful.. lol😅😅😅
This car cost over $300k here in sweden, almost the same price as a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
mark up is nuts... so much for the "everyman"
Most cars in USA are a lot cheaper for some reasons…
@Landcruiser150 Take a pickup truck here in sweden, the price is always a lot higher, almost 3 times higher and the insurance is so expensive that only companies use them, and the gas price is also much higher, more then double compared to the US.
Looking forward to this one. I just dropped a sweet custom z06 to an 83 year old man who had to wait 3 years to get it because of the pandemic. Poor guy really didn't think he'd live to see it!
I think 83 is the average age of the Corvette owner.
That's not the Corvette I'm used to but, it is a great piece of engineering!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎉🎄🧑🎄🌲
Looks way too Italian if you ask me... and with a price of over $100,000 you may as well just get a Lambo or a Ferrari ffs.
Bravo J&T《☆》U can Step on the Gas & the Battery simultaneously now👍🏾🍔🥤🤳You're Multitasking Bro✌🏼😁☯️
Super interesting video. I learned a lot about the engineering choices in this vette. 👍
From Union shops, that just went on strike. Best luck to the workers!
I really like interviews like this. Two guys - one that loves cars and another than knows how to build and design them Just straight, honest and no BS.
Watching this video, you could just see those two driving from Costa Coast and never run out of something to say it’s really cool to have someone talk about a car and get as excited as he did about talking about it
Is jay feeling okay? No denim shirt????
*Jay's garage* on a Fri.! What a treat! ❤
⚡🔨
Love the part where Tadge mentions the Z06's owners bending over with their Wallets #DealerMarkups
So grateful this interview was with an articulate engineer. It looks like it was all done in one take.
Jay, the kind of guy that wears his seatbelt like he’s driving an ‘82 Datsun B210.
20 years ago I remember hearing that the Corvette might go mid engine. Glad to see it finally did. Hats off to the engineers that designed it.
Do I have this right? The V8 engine drives the rear wheels and charges the battery while the battery powers the electric motors that drive the front wheels. Ingenious!!! That said this guy looks like Clint Eastwood.
In the shop he's referred to as the "Clint Eastwood" of engineers because he makes everyone's day
Yeah it's a clever and innovative drivetrain. Hard to get right so power delivery feels natural and not intrusive, but it seems they got it right.
Of course a lot of the charging is provided by regenerative braking too.
They killed it; great job Chevy.
