Wow, probably one of the most sober and mature commentary about Titanfall so far. Great going Bunnyhop, I'd love to see some more content on this after the release!
You have the best impression videos. You are always able to deliver a fresh and unique point of view. I enjoy your uploads more than Totalbiscuit (much love to the Cynical Brit) these days. Your love and devotion for gaming really shines through your videos. Keep up the great work and I wish you the best as your channel grows.
thanks for your input George, I would not have thought about getting this for a second from just the gameplay vids and limited feedback I have run into at this point. Mildly interested now, better wait to see what volume of content is packed inthere when reviews hit
The common theme is "Game could be among the best, a fantastic new franchise - please don't mess it up EA". I'm almost certain though that EA know this is their new cash cow and are even now eyeing up ways to extract more money post-purchase.
terminator847 well the want isn:t the problem but I am worrying that they will try to overpower players if they spend $100 on weapons and special burn cards. there is nothing wrong with dlc but if it:s bad and changes the playing field or makes it not fun for those who don:t want it then thats bad
terminator847 There's a difference between making money and being a sleasy con artist like EA. I will never buy an EA product ever again after dungeon keeper
You forgot to say that you can hack enemy spectre, turning whole squad as your minions. You can ride on ally titan back preventing enemy player from doing same.
Schnookism It's actually not that bad of a thing to do. Hacking spectres make them follow you and in doing that, your character model blends in with them (because the models between pilots, grunts and spectres aren't that distinguishable). For other players who tend to ignore minions once mid/late-game, it makes it very easy to move around the map largely being ignored by others.
Schnookism Continuing on the MrCythos Spectre hype. Spectres also use rocket launchers to shoot enemy titans. Do they do a lot of damage? Not really, but they stop shield regeneration. Spectres automatically win grunts if they meet on the battlefield.
Another awesome video. You have summarised the feel of Titanfall very well. I had huge connection issues in the UK so I couldn't enjoy it fully and I agree that matches did end a bit too soon. I played this on a 3 year old laptop which can just about play Portal 2 on high settings. It was smooth overall but the grey concrete colours made it difficult to spot enemy targets without the big red name about their heads.
Wait at ~ 11:45 did those ships jump into atmosphere from near light speeds? Does anyone else think they should have burned up from the ludicrous amount of heat generated by that?
What do you feel about the amount of players and map sizes? I would really like at least twice as many players, and perhaps map sizes as much as three times as a large as what it is, but I recognise it might influence pace and structure of the gameplay in a poor way, as Unreal Tournament-like as it is. Gosh, playing this game, as fun as it was, left me wanting another Unreal Tournament game.
I knew this was going to come up. I think 6v6 works fine as it is, I don't personally see any reason to go smaller or larger based on the current map sizes and AI numbers. After all, counter strike is 5v5, GoW is 4v4, and the hottest competitive Quake matches are often 1v1. I'm saying all this in ignorance. Titanfall plays well as it is but we'll never know what it's like with more players unless we don't have the option to up that limit. And with the way they have their dedicated servers set up, it looks like we won't.
Not sure why people are confusing DICE with Respawn. The only thing that sucks about being published by EA is going through Origin. It uses Azure too if I am not mistaken. But hey, abstain while I enjoy. And Respawn said there is no micro-transactions so don't worry about the burn card exploitation.
~3:42 "It's a MOBA concept that hasn't really been applied to an FPS so far..." *sheds single tear for Borderlands 2* *realizes the difference between an RPG and a MOBA* *sheds more tears*
I'm glad I'm not the only one to do a total 180 on this game, going from Titan-what? To "DUDE, DUDE DID YOU SEE THAT!? I was like totally jump and spin and kick!" I'm looking forward to what they can do with the final product.
It's CoD with mechs... and jetpacks and parkour and different abilities for your pilot and wallrunning and different weapons and burn cards and it's just 6v6. Some people forget that the people who made the few good CoD games are the ones making Titanfall. It's not the people who made CoD: Ghosts that are making Titanfall.
Super Bunnyhop They've said that EA's new shooter rotation is going to be Battlefield, Titanfall, Battlefront. So we can except to see Titanfall 2 in 2017.
As someone who is very cynical about modern first person shooters, CoD especially I was pretty shocked how much fun I had with this when I tried it at a friend's house. I actually found myself having a lot more fun than I did with the CoD4 beta way back when, and I enjoyed that game a lot when it first released. It's very unfortunate that it requires origin though, as I'll never be buying it myself as long as that's true.
I share your opinion on the beta pretty much, went in with really low expectations and figured it'd be a variation on CoD. But my god, it's such a blast to play hopefully the 60$ price tag contains enough content to hold me over.
Reminds me a bit of Crysis 2 online, which was basically CoD but with nanosuits. It was fun for a bit. It's too bad Tribes: Ascend doesn't have a big following anymore, because it looks like it does high speed FPS much better than this. Good to hear it isn't a piece of crap though.
The game looks great but I'm worried about the possible lack of content that the main release will offer, considering they haven't released a ton of details about content yet.
I enjoyed the wallrunning and the epilogue escapes. However, I didn't find Titans all that exciting to play and the maps didn't support wallrunning as well as the tutorial sections. Also, in the Hardpoint game mode (capture 3 nodes on map), the Titans didn't even feel all that useful, since they could easily access only 1 point out of three, turning that game mode into "camp near a capture point with a shotgun and win". I would've preferred if the game did not have any Titans and had more projectile based weapons. I think a Capture the Flag mode could work but that was nowhere to be seen in the beta. I played the beta for around 5 hours which probably barely even scratched the surface but I'm not going to buy this at launch. You just know there's a flurry of DLC incoming, if I do end up buying this it'll be at a lower price point with the DLC installed.
Huh. I hadn't expected Titanfall to be more than a modern military shooter with a fun gimmick, but I keep hearing good stuff from the beta. At this point the only question really is whether EA will bugger it all somehow.
Bunny! I do agree with you, it's feels different of what it looks like. It's fun, i would call it a disapointment but i'm waiting for the full release. But like you said, it's more movement based than shooting skill based. For me it feels like a shooter for people who don't like shooters. That's why the minions, smart pistol and titans.
I didn't care about this game at all, but now I'm kinda curious about it. I think I might actually pick it up... in a few years, if it gets on steam, during sales.
Titianfall tottally reminds me of the allure of AAA games of the past, a solid, polished experience that's fresh. It reminds me of the great days when I was on the xbox, where every year there was a Halo CE, Fable 1 or Starwars republic commando. But that was 13 years ago and I've moved on. Titianfall looks cool, but not cool enough for me to get origin or an xbone. I've done the first person shooty shooty thing for nearly a decade and I've moved onto other genre's and platforms for a much more diverse and free experience...
Hey george have you ever played MOHAA online? besides CS1.6 it was one of the best tactical FPS out there, Competitively it never became as big as it should have, EA never realized how big their original game was in europe and focused instead on the Spearhead and Breakthrough expansions. They poured a lot of money into promoting Breakthrough as an eSports game, when they had no idea about the tens of thousands of players hooked on the original allied assault. It's a game I still play now and then. Once you get used to the movement speed leaning around corners and recoil of the weapons, the game is very fast-paced and somehat arcady, but with a high skill ceiling. Take for instance sniper-only in V2 or Stalingrad, it can be a lot of fun.
Lubomir Danov Correct, grabbed from a post-Militia victory lobby. The MoH:AA songs used are "Rangers Lead the Way," "Aircraft Facility," and "Schmerzen"
Super Bunnyhop Have you considered diving into the topic of video games as one of the two main mediums (apart from movies) contributing to today's development of "classical music"? Game development studios as modern-day patrons? I know I'm a bit ignorant on the topic of creation of classical music today, so I might as well be greatly mistaken.
Great video...Although you did say that you can use burn cards once per life; once per match and once permanently, I believe though they all are once per life and deactivate once you die.
Going bit off topic, but that Medal of Honor clip in the start reminded me of video game music... as it is today. You know it's a shame, video game score feels so degenerated nowdays. It tries too hard to be cinematic, meaning there will be more of those "ambient" tracks, than those epic melodic tracks, or just melodic beautiful tracks. Which is a shame. I remember most of the tracks from older games, but I have to work really hard to remember the music in modern games. But one game from modern games has a soundtrack that REALLY stood out for me. Metal Gear Rising. I still listen most of it's tracks. It felt so refreshing to have a soundtrack that FITS the game. What reacts to the events that happen on the screen. And the melodies are just awesome, I even find myself singing along as I play the game and fight against some of the bosses, heh. It's a shame video game music has degenerated to the background, instead of electrifying the game's atmosphere. Atleast in the AAA-games.
They tried hard to be cinematic back then, too. I know Steven Spielberg was personally involved with the MoH franchise during its early days, and you can tell that the Allied Assault score was made to sound very John Williams/Star Wars-esque. It was made far past the era of melodic chiptunes from the two console generations earlier. Sure, game music tries to be cinematic, but what does that mean when cinema scores have degenerated themselves? I think they have, and I blame Batman. I hear "Batman music" everywhere nowadays, you know the theme. The one where the same four notes repeat ad infinitum, building higher and higher up to a climax that never happens. It might've worked the first time I saw it, but it's just so incredibly damn repetitive, derivative, obvious and lazy that I can't stand it anymore. It's, like, I dunno, misplaced minimalism or something. You hear it in shlocky, campy blockbuster action movies, but their score sounds like bassy Phillip Glass. Here, have some Batman music. See if you can tell the difference between these three themes: The Dark Knight Theme and RoboCop - Made in China - Soundtrack Score HD and Oblivion (The Movie) Soundtrack - 02 - Waking Up
Super Bunnyhop Haha, yeah... exactly, EXACTLY what I mean. Those soundtracks are just what I've been "aiming at" when I sometimes rant about the music in current video games. And the word "lazy" fits the bill so well. :)
Super Bunnyhop Two words mate 'Remote Control'. An entire company dedicated to ripping off Hans Zimmer's worst scores (Batman, Man of Steel etc). And they are the reason why all modern film/video game music sounds really, really samey; at least in terms of big budget projects. Shame too because they do actually have some decent composers in that company like Lorne Balfe and Ramin Djawadi but they usually make their best scores for smaller projects.
i was the same way i was pretty sure this game was going to be a cod clone so i was like screw it and signed up for a beta but this was like taking a shower for the first time in years this game completely changes the way multiplayer matches can be like he said the matches are so fast paced that something is always going on and its less about who shot first and more about how should i shoot
I think you're the first person I've seen to mention distaste towards the huge notifications that appears whenever you complete a challenge and I agree. To me, it all just feels really condescending. It's like they're jingling keys in front of your face to keep you interested.
Respawn has said twice that they have no plans to do microtransactions for Titanfall. DLC maps yes (which some may consider to be a form of microtransaction), but I will be disappointed if they pull stunts like buying packs of burn cards.
I played the beta and it didn't really feel like onslaught mode from ut04 to me at all. The movement was really good and has a lot of potential but thats honestly the only redeeming thing about the entire game for me. The game has pretty generic gunplay and the game modes were just mindless dming with no engaging objectives. If there were attack and defend modes like enemy territory I would be all for this game, but at the end there will be nothing to keep me playing a game like this other than grinding out unlocks.
When you think abot about it, futuristic war would not really be like this at all. One small burst from a vulcan cannon with advanced tracking on every bullet 1 kilometre in the sky and it'd be all over for about 50 personell. That or flying bots that are in the movie Oblivion with Tom Cruise. Or just nuclear flamethrowers from the sky that glass entire continents. Also, STAR WARS IS NOT POSSIBLE. With super advanced technology, wars would not be wars. Each side or one side would be obliterated in an instant by thermonuclear proximity cloaked devices so no one would see the thing coming. Big ones. Really big ones.
Super Bunnyhop YES. I think civilisation can only get off the surface once peace is had and felt from the very depths of all people to the planet as a whole. If humankind is united again, in love and harmony, everything will become possible.
I got to play this for free for a while and I must say I had fun. Not sure how good the game actually is but it was addictive to play, at least for the time I had with it. Maybe it will get repetitive after a while like many comments keep stating.
I will not be picking this game up for one reason: Exclusivity. It is obvious that Microsoft and Respawn/EA have something going on behind the scenes, because this game is only being released on MS consoles. It runs on the Source engine, yet they couldn't get it on PS3 or PS4? They managed to port the game to X360 but not any other console? It's the freaking Source Engine! I assume this game is exculsive to Xbox console and PCs because of the same reason EA's BF4 had exclusive DLC for Xbox One.
Actually the snowballing is way worse in the game than this video tell you. With a competent player it can literally turn out to be "who gets the first titan?". The burn card system is also utterly broken, the worst case scenario being the enemy team starting the match with 6 titans. Another unmentioned issue with this game is the netcode. Nice to be played on dedicated servers, but lagging players will still jerk around like crazy. Killcam also has shown me a diffirent reality quite a few times.
darkcarnage1234 You're committing a fallacy of equivalence here. When MasterCheif says "play" he means playing the game regularly beyond first attempts. When you use that word against MasterCheif, you use it as playing the game for the first time. So, statements like, "why do you watch so and so, if you hate him" is actually valid and immune from the standard reply of, "how would he know if he would like so and so without having watched him first" because ppl often refer to "watching" as doing so regularly after the first preliminary attempt had sedimented his judgement on the said media. Of course, this doesn't work for movies, as you've pointed out, as you can only watch a movie once, unless the guy re-watches said movie.
I have a shitty GT630 that limits my ability to play this game. Other than that, the repetitive gameplay (which I don't mind), and the lack of the content, this game was actually fun. Especially with friends. IMO, To me, this game is like a testing bed for the new IP that EA has produced.
Super Bunnyhop, now that the game is out do you intend on going back to it? I promise you there's plenty of hope and disappointment. Plenty of stuff to complain about.
As interesting as it may be. No way am I giving EA one red cent. You may have heard this before but its been two years since I've directly given them money. Never again.
You arent screwing EA at all by doing that, you're screwing the devs that work for them. You not buying a product from EA isnt going to make EA think that they're doing something wrong as a business, its going to make them think that the devs did something wrong by making a poor game that wouldnt sell.
You find the positives in a lot of otherwise mediocre games. Would you ever do a video on Dynasty Warriors? As I've heard many times there are 2 types of people. Those who like Dynasty Warriors. And those who don't. I have many friends who outright hate everything about it. And a couple who absolutely love it. No in between.
Some recent gameplay footage, and now your impressions, are leading me to the awful conclusion of installing origin. Blast your articulation! In all seriousness, this game is really starting to surprise me, it might be able to fill the hole halo left on PC.
Finally someone else made the comparison with playing scout in TF2! I've been maining scout for a while now, so Titanfall was very easy to pick up.
Wow, probably one of the most sober and mature commentary about Titanfall so far.

I know. How dare those loan sharks make money, or those banks that charge 20% interest .
You forgot to say that you can hack enemy spectre, turning whole squad as your minions.
You can ride on ally titan back preventing enemy player from doing same.
It's cool that you can do that stuff, but hacking spectres would just be a waste of time.
Schnookism It's actually not that bad of a thing to do. And I forgot how awesome the MoH soundtrack was until you reminded me.
Thank you Mr George Personman.
Really good and informativ video, you have become one of my favourite RUclipsrs. Thanks.

Allied assault was called frontline in the uk
Everyone should guess how many sequels this game will have before it dies out. I say nine.
Hmm... we could make it interesting. Think they'll do a two-year or three-year development cycle for those sequels? I'm putting $0.05 on two-year.
Hmm...I'll be putting $0.10 on a two-year development cycle, with map packs to hold people over. It's an easy cash grab for the publisher.
Super Bunnyhop i read your comments in your voice :D
Super Bunnyhop but the IP belongs to Respawn so that'll probably stop other studios from touching it. Maybe 3-4 years?

It might've worked the first time I saw it, but it's just so incredibly damn repetitive, derivative, obvious and lazy that I can't stand it anymore. It's, like, I dunno, misplaced minimalism or something. You hear it in shlocky, campy blockbuster action movies, but their score sounds like bassy Phillip Glass.
Here, have some Batman music. See if you can tell the difference between these three themes: The Dark Knight Theme and RoboCop - Made in China - Soundtrack Score HD and Oblivion (The Movie) Soundtrack - 02 - Waking Up
Super Bunnyhop
Haha, yeah... exactly, EXACTLY what I mean.
You're a good man, Weidman.
This is the second time I've heard someone refer to Titan Fall as similar to a MOBA. I wonder when the inevitable MOBA spinoff is due for release :P
i was the same way i was pretty sure this game was going to be a cod clone so i was like screw it and signed up for a beta but this was like taking a shower for the first time in years this game completely changes the way multiplayer matches can be like he said the matches are so fast paced that something is always going on and its less about who shot first and more about how should i shoot
Hi i'm mike. I live your reviews and i'd ti see a review on the room. And the room 2
Yeah I really like this game I have played it a lot and I really can't wait for the second one.
I think you're the first person I've seen to mention distaste towards the huge notifications that appears whenever you complete a challenge and I agree. To me, it all just feels really condescending. It's like they're jingling keys in front of your face to keep you interested.
i will buy this when the wildlife comes, and if it comes.
Respawn has said twice that they have no plans to do microtransactions for Titanfall. DLC maps yes (which some may consider to be a form of microtransaction), but I will be disappointed if they pull stunts like buying packs of burn cards.
I've grown into the habit of never trusting anyone who says they won't do DLC.
Honestly I thought the tutorial did a good job of preparing me for the multiplayer, I didn't feel it outstayed it's welcome either.
WELL STAR WARS WOULDN'T BE CALLED STAR WARS THEN NOW HUH. CHECK AND MATE!
Super Bunnyhop YES. I think civilisation can only get off the surface once peace is had and felt from the very depths of all people to the planet as a whole. If humankind is united again, in love and harmony, everything will become possible.
Super Bunnyhop Siick game though. I love the tracking bullets.
GreenTimeEagle
Star Wars? More like... Star Wuvs.
It is a lot of fun, but I couldn't see it as a competitive game and most of the weapons are really outshined by the shotgun.
the game still has lot's of players, still fun!
Wow, that soundtrack sounds similar to Super Mario Galaxy
man.... this game kinda disappeared
TF2 and Star Wars analogies? Subscribed.
If this had tf2s campaign, this game would sell hella well.
Going to buy this now.
It reminds me of 'S4 League' for some reason.
I got to play this for free for a while and I must say I had fun. Not sure how good the game actually is but it was addictive to play, at least for the time I had with it. Maybe it will get repetitive after a while like many comments keep stating.
Im not a big fan of fast paced shooters ... still.. this one looks interesting
Super Bunnyhop, I see you have an excellent taste when it comes to vintage porn. It gets even better when Batman arrives at his destination.
A Titan VS, A Titan
I will not be picking this game up for one reason:
Exclusivity.
I assume this game is exculsive to Xbox console and PCs because of the same reason EA's BF4 had exclusive DLC for Xbox One.
i really want to buy this.. but fuck EA....
Second hand copy?
Strospiteri fuck that
My thoughts exactly...
i would buy it if they didnt require origin
jairtzinio
This. All on board the pirate ship.
the smart pistol is still overpowered
Actually the snowballing is way worse in the game than this video tell you. With a competent player it can literally turn out to be "who gets the first titan?".
The burn card system is also utterly broken, the worst case scenario being the enemy team starting the match with 6 titans.
Another unmentioned issue with this game is the netcode. Nice to be played on dedicated servers, but lagging players will still jerk around like crazy. Killcam also has shown me a diffirent reality quite a few times.
to do list
1 make a pc that run Titanfall at 4k and 60fps
2 get Titanfall
3 play minecraft
If u dnt like Titanfall n why u play it thn?
How would he know if he liked it or not if he never played it? That's like hating a movie, even if you never saw it.
ik but he should play it
He did. He just did a review of it. You're literally commenting on the review video right now.
darkcarnage1234 You're committing a fallacy of equivalence here.
Of course, this doesn't work for movies, as you've pointed out, as you can only watch a movie once, unless the guy re-watches said movie.
well when you have of cause you play it
Gotta keep the servers in mind don't get excite gotta keep the servers in mind don't get hyped
nice video. thank you :)
I have a shitty GT630 that limits my ability to play this game. Other than that, the repetitive gameplay (which I don't mind), and the lack of the content, this game was actually fun. Especially with friends.
IMO, To me, this game is like a testing bed for the new IP that EA has produced.
watching this in 2021 because why not
you sir is great !
completely agreed.
Super Bunnyhop, now that the game is out do you intend on going back to it? I promise you there's plenty of hope and disappointment. Plenty of stuff to complain about.
"The skill floor is lower"
Oh hun....
Playing this with a controller looks like it'll be insanely limiting.
38Gigabytes of audio and master servers don't work. That's what I learned about Titanfall during the free weekend.
I love this game enough to accept that it is both EA and Origin. Which is disturbing.
Shotgun is OP
Some recent gameplay footage, and now your impressions, are leading me to the awful conclusion of installing origin. Blast your articulation! In all seriousness, this game is really starting to surprise me, it might be able to fill the hole halo left on PC.
