    the guy who builds them is steve morris of steve morris racing engines.
    they are expensive (obviously) procharged engines, his "street" (street legal at least) caprice has 1740hp on pump gas. he also sells alcohol engines with more power

    damn this thing is INSANE look at the flame coming out of the turbo pipe at 48 sec...that thing is packin heat. this is just nuts, i couldn't even imagine all that coming out of a 4 cylinder with only 2 liters

    knock is when something is loose and metal to metal contact occures, making a knocking noise... sounds just like someone hitting the block with a hammer... a detonation is when the heat starts combustion before the piston is at tdc, before the plug sparks... also causing backfiring, and damage to the crank, rods, bearings, rings ect. its not usual for the lands to be damaged

    I'm pretty sure no one would fuck with AMS. They make great parts for Evolution 8 and 9 but it is pricey, yet you're getting for what you pay and this is a good answer for that statement.

    Exhaust experiment for FREE!
    Next time you go to a restaurant and get a straw, try to breathe through it. Next, cut off a 1 inch piece and try breathing through it instead.
    The same applies to exhaust on cars. Why are exhaust systems normally from front to back? To fit all the emissions gunk, to quiet the noise, and to give sufficient backpressure.
    With performance turbos, however, the sooner and quicker you get exhaust to the turbo, and air from the turbo to intake, the better.

    no its called a knock sensor and it measures knock aka preignition. look at an ems software sometime. knock is not the temp the fuel is ignited, or burnt. its uncontrolled flame front in the combustion chamber. basically the spark starts one flame, the latent heat and compression start another and the flame fronts collide causing knock/detonation. this is what sounds like rocks in a can to some. it also destroys the ring lands and beats piston domes to death. im not asking for your opinion.

    correction. that motor made 2,108rwhp at 41psi. 1,781rwhp at 26psi. and it has twin 74mm turbo's. 1/4 mile 7.81 at 182mph. and thats at 26psi.

    APC is quicker, but the two cannot be compared. APC is a full tube chassis car where AMS drag car is still factory chassis with factory mounted suspension location.

    No they use high octane fuel because it is more resistance to detonating so they can add more boost and more timing.

    we have a 572 cobra jet motor in our shop that makes about 900hp on pump fuel, and when setup for good fuel will make roughly 1500hp or so. yet the point being it has to run lower compression pistons for the pump gas setup that limits its overall output. you are not going to get much more output without boost. and anyone that knows will tell you making it bigger isnt really going to help, larger bore = more chance/likelyhood for detonation

    AMS does NOT use methanol!!! It was mostly a joke, but the exhaust is upfront and the dyno room's exhaust system is in the rear by the door. Plus when you first start tunning, you start on the rich side to be safe. Plus can you imagine how much fuel is being burned in that small of a time making that power? Crazy sheet.

    the rings have such a small surface area, the pressure of even say 10000 psi would equal like a 100 pounds pressing on it, the ring lands get hurt by blowby, the heat of combustion chips away at the lands, not the pressure in the cylinder. and thats only if the piston/rings is not properly fitted to the cylinder bore, if its too loose or too tight problems will occur

    @revenge2269 Because, you can plant more weight on the tires that are propelling the car...The 1000+ awd eclipses would only bias 25% power to front tires upon launch and or more on launch and less down track once they were sprung forward ...good rwd drag cars have a spring propelled launch with suspension, stallconverters, and "spring forward" with all the weight on the drive wheels ...But AWD you can just dial in the amount of power between all four tires wich is a great setup!

    I think a new style transmission and rear differential combined with larger tires would be AWESOME.... and like you said, the longer gears are a must.
    This car should be taken out once a month to get the times down where they should be; but the car gets raced twice a year, lol..... what a fan-bummer.
    How can ANYONE expect to dial in the driving of such a crazy car without driving it?????????? ..... Get on that 8.42 AMS!! How long has it been since the 8.42?? ..lol

    i was never smart enough to wear a respirator in the dyno room, but had we semi decent ventilation. i was more worried about getting hit by chunks of tire and cars coming unstrapped than i was of the fumes ;)

    either way anything you wanna call it... its not going to hurt the ring lands 1st, MIGHT chip the top land a little after the ring gets toasted but thats bout it. itll bend the rods, beat the bearings out, or crack a piston first.

    To be honest Drag is the Past the future is Drifting, Autocross, WRC, and Circuit. Drag Racing is always gonna be fun to watch but It will never be as popular as other forms of motor sports.

    the piston is thinest at the dome, if it has a me at least. its always thicker on the outside edge where all the webbing is. and having the center of the pison being beat downwords would make the ring grooves become wider not narrower. and aluminum does chip/ be eaten away, everything does.
    ring land width has NOTHING to do with ring end gap, that is just the length of the ring. and if you see "aluminum spray" thiers something serioulsly wrong

    This is a world record for an EVO CAR!. Out of all the evo's in the world, this is the fastes EVO out of all EVO's ONLY. However, it is NOT the fastest car in the whole world in general, but for EVO's only...

    i believe 100 octane pump gas. but that was their import tuner evo build. that made 1000+ hp at the crack. so maybe race fuel.

    don't see how this is the world record down here in new zealand the speedtech motorsport evo 3 made 1160 AWHP bout 3-4 years ago...AND runs 8.23 @ 289kph (179mph) down the quarter... and i think after that an aussie evo 2 ran a 8.07 @ 176mph.

    the "dome" can also be called a face too. you originally said the skirt only holds the piston straight, then said it does nothing... with out the skirt the piston wouldn't hold psi for long.
    you sir are a walking contradiction, while the "dome" does one thing, acts as surface area for combustion. and the outside edge does oil control, combustion control, keeps the piston straight, cools the piston, picks up oil from the sump and even holds the piston on..... count em

    @wapitiman100 AWD can dial in a spectacular launch but then they need to bias most or all power to rear once they get going ....that would be superior on the street, because RWD drag cars break loose on street and are seconds slower than they would be at the track...AWD on STREET will be more consistant with more varying road conditions...
    Factory stock muscle imports like the EVO or even domestics like the similar dodge neon SRT-4s and such , require a finess at the dragstrip.

    lol yeah im fine, that was 7 years or ago or so since i had one come off. most of the cars in these vids arent strapped down right. 2 straps should be crossed and if you only use two they def need to be cross strapped. then i use 2 more straight just as back ups. also i tighten them down to where i can stand on the straps with no movement or slack in the strap. if i can push it down with my weight they are too loose!!!! ask any trucker how to secure a load and they will say cross chain!

    dude i got my evo tuned at the one in west chicago i got a evo9se ams down pipe test pipe flash stage 2 clutch, no cat,intake boost control, at 20.5 psi its pretty fun to drive but i dont have a camera to post the video up of it i will soon

    then factory stock with only upgraded intercooler??
    and then on their drag evo, when they switched from their big air2air, to the new air2water??

    there's power loss in the powertrain so if it is 1130 on the wheels it would be probly over 1300bhp engine hp

    i wouldnt say any engine making this power is unreliable. we commonly build cars with 1000+hp and they on average get 2-3 years out of the motors before needing a rebuild. and we drive them alot more than most "race" cars since they are sand cars... we drive all over the dunes/desert jump shit and have a good ole time. id say any gas engine with this much boost would be unreliable is more accurate. our 1200hp ls1 runs 2 t88's at about 15psi, you can drive it all day long, every day.
