My wife and I bought a Maytag Bravos MCT washer in 2006. We already had three young children so we did our share of laundry. It is now 16 years old and has performed flawlessly - at least as good as my past Kenmore. Super efficient, loads of nice features, and got everything clean. Today it stopped working and I got my first "error code." Not sure yet if I'll repair or replace it but I certainly can't complain.

We purchased a newer Maytag Bravos washer and have had no end of issues with it. It is a slightly different model, but lots of issues with it malfunctioning in multiple ways. Same issues with large\bulky load settings causing problems. We often had to unplug it for 40 minutes to an hour to get it working again. Definite control board issues and lots of startup issues even after servicing.

I have a Bravos MVWB835DWO machine purchased in Nov 2015. About 6 months ago I realized by fluke that it was not getting clothes clean. I had a pair of dark socks that still had some grass on them - so I rinsed them in the sink to remove the grass. The water was dirty! I grabbed another pair to test it out (these are my son's socks that can be quite dirty!) After being through the wash cycle I hand washed them and the water was absolutely filthy! I ran 3 cleaning tablets through the machine at once. Now I have done this again a few months later and did another test - socks still coming out filthy. So I also handwashed a pair of dark sweat pants (which had to be re-washed anyway because of all the residue left on them) and the water was dirty from those as well. Ended up hand washing that whole load! (I even have photos to prove all of this). I called Maytag and was told to use less soap to eliminate the residue on dark clothes (I only use 1 tbsp/15 ml) - to which I replied, "but how is that going to get my socks clean?!" They want to send out a tech to look at it - but everything seems to be running and going through the cycles; no error codes or funny noises. VERY VERY disappointed with this product and upset that I spent $1000 less than 2 years ago and now have to likely get something else. I previously had a Maytag that was 20 years old and still worked (and hardly ever needed repair). Might have to look at a Samsung or Speed Queen as I see those recommended.

I have a Maytag Bravo and if I bought it at a store like Sears it wouldn't have been cheap. Received a great discount on it. It's 4 years old and it's never had a repair. Then I added a 5 year warranty on it. Have even heard of stories about Electrolux washers. People pay 1500.00. The machine needs repair and the company is asking the customer to pay more. Front loaders can have mold and other issues. Used to have a front load machine and it constantly needed repair. Every 3 months needed repair - that was a different brand.

I really hate to see people pay their hard earned money and get stuck with one of this new generation of to put it plainly junk HE washers. I had my aunts 40 year old 1977 GE Filterflo and only recently did the outer wash tub start to rust. So I thought hey whats to complain about, its freakin 40 years old-! So when I went looking at new washers for the first time ever, I was astounded at the huge drop in build quality - its been replaced by fancy paint jobs, water restrictions and flashy failure prone electronics, but good build quality was nowhere to be seen. I found the nearest dealer and bought a commercial duty SPEED QUEEN and im totally satisfied. No error codes, no out of balance problems, as much or as little water as I want, excellent overall performance, fast wash times and a killer warranty included in the price - best appliance ive ever owned.

I own a Maytag Bravos without the glass lid that a gent gave me with bad tub bearings. I wish mide had a glass lid on it. I consider you lucky. Anyway, I replaced the bearings on it, and put it back together.
If I were you sir, I would tilt the washer back, look under it, and make sure the connections on the devices below the tub are not reversed, or improperly connected. Or, you could remove the connectors, and reseat them. The same should go for the top control console as well. I made the mistake once of not hooking the rotor position sensor properly, and the Machine was throwing codes and acting funky. I re-sat the connector, and the machine worked very well afterwards. It turns out I didn’t even hook up the connector, I “connected” it to some plastic tabs on the stator housing, thinking I had connected it. Disconnect the power before touching the electrical jazz below the machine tho.

If you haven't already, find a SPEED QUEEN. It won't be at the big box store, and you may have to look online for a dealer. You mentioned going to the laundromat? If they have top-loaders, check what brand they use. Probably SPEED QUEEN. They are the most durable machines in the industry and the first choice among commercial self-service laundries.

@@Sheeko_Reckless It was stuck in the drain mode. It would try to shift into the spin, but the spring must have been weak and the gears on the clutch were worn enough that it would just keep pumping and not go into the full spin. The tub would just rock a little like it wanted to spin, but wouldn't. The repair was simple. Lay the washer on it's side and remove the belt cover, the pulley and then replace the spring and gear kit. 30 minutes tops. I also found another one like mine on a curb in my neighborhood. I grabbed it and I've disassembled it. If I don't fix it, I'll just keep it for spare parts. Good luck with yours.

My washer had similar problems where it would fail in the power wash cycle and either stop or drain out the water.

I hardly ever get to buy any thing new. Was ecstatic to get to buy a brand new Maytag Bravos HE washer and dryer set!...washer barely lasted 3 years...just out(by a few days) of extended warranty, which I normally would not have done! Washer stated acting like it was out of balance, but it was not, checked repeatedly. Then started to self destruct!!!! Found large shard of what appears to be hard plastic from material machines inner construction ! So glad that I looked before shoving my arm inside to grab laundry that was btw not really clean...never washed thoroughly...fyi- takes water to get things clean... I am so disgusted and that washer still sits in my garage, while I now have clean clothes, safely, from a probably15 year old, good old fashioned washer. Quite frankly I am beyond believing that no class action lawsuit has happened on these dangerous, defective washing machines! How is this legal? Sure isn't safe...or worth the high $ price...doesn't even clean your laundry. Made all the difference switching back to a conventional washer. Immediate difference!

Have had a Bravos XL for 5 or 6 years now and I would only give it a 6 out of 10 rating - cannot do big loads in it so you end up doing 2 or 3 small loads instead which is suppose to save water which makes no sense. And even with small loads you have to be super careful how you load the laundry or else it will stop half or 3/4 way thru with the super annoying U/L code, then you have to guess how much soggy wet clothes u must take out for it to complete the cycle.

  • @toltec13

It sounded like mine. There's too much resistance on the motor because you can hear the humming. The motor should be spinning freely. You may have bad tub bearings like mine did plus so much lint build up by the drain pump filter cap. I changed out the tub bearing and now it spins VERY fast and quiet.

Hi there, it's been a year since I replaced the bearings on my Maytag and no problems. If you spin the tub and it moves freely and smooth with no rumbling noise, then your okay (Give it a good spin by hand). If you spin your tub and feel or hear a grinding or rumbling noise, then you need to change the bearings. The appliance man wanted $350.00 to fix it, but I bought the bearings (top and bottom) and the special tool for around $60.00 or so. Just be aware how freely it moves right now for future references.

It's doing exactly what's happening in the video. Instead of sensing, it hums and spin slowly. Wash and rinse seem to work fine, but when going to the spin cycle, it just hums and spins slowly causing the clothes to be more wet than usual.

I can't say I am thrilled with my Maytag Bravo XL. It doesn't spin out as well as I would like. The soak and spin cycle doesn't work all that well and it takes a VERY long time to run any cycle to run. The last time I tried to use the soak and spin it seemed to be stuck and unable to finish the cycle. I was using it because I had run what could be considered a medium size load on normal and the items were so wet I couldn't even put them i the dryer. It needs a separate spin cycle THAT ACTUALLY WORKS. I'v only had it 3 months.

After four years of residential use by a family of four our Maytag Bravos model MVWX655DW1 washer had an unacceptable failure of transmission part # W11035751 due to poor design. The output shaft that drives the tub and agitator is unprotected from corrosion and is submersed in each wash cycle and subsequently designed to fail. This preventable failure could be prevented by the designer by plating the shaft or constructing it of stainless, but then they would sell less washers. The transmission purchased on E-bay was half the price than if purchased from Maytag and worked wonderfully but has the same issue. The only thing I could do on the replacement transmission to slow the corrosion is to paint the shaft then coat with silicone during assembly. I know this will make disassembly more difficult in the future, but it is the only option I have as grease may not be used inside the wash tub. The other issue of concern was the build up of a quarter inch of mud under the agitator and around the wash tub despite the regular use of the proper cleaning products to periodically flush the washer. My expectation of Maytag products was one of quality design but after seeing this failure in a relatively short period of time, my expectation has changed greatly!

Is it the HE detergent, which I don't see a need for but I use so as to not void any warranty? Also, I absolutely HATE that I cannot soak a load for more than 30 minutes with this machine before it drains...tried just turning it off after filling(another third thing I hate since it doesn't really fill, just barely covers whatever level of clothes that is in there)but then it drains so I have to start over....I really, really wish I had insisted on the same simple agitator washer I originally had.....NOT a fan of this sucker!!

I think this kills whatever water or energy savings this may have.

By from a company who actually cares about their customers and reputation. Buying from the cheapest retailer doesn’t equated to proper customer service. You get what you pay for.

I’ve been telling people for years, if it’s not a proven design or technology, don’t buy it. It seems as though consumers these days just buy things without any sort of thought to functionality, durability, or reliability. Then, start kvetching when their new machine has problems from the get go then say “I miss my old washer”. Well, you shouldn’t have gotten rid of it in the first place, since your old machine is gone you are stuck with this. I try to tell people to keep what they have and to keep using it until the bitter end, but the nonsense persists as always. People just don’t understand until it’s simply too late, this is why I’ve stashed a few washer and dryer sets away in the shed from the 60’s and 70’s. Since I use different ones from time to time, shouldn’t have to buy a washer and dryer set for a long, long time.

The smell you were smelling was the burning motor. From the buzz, I can tell, that the motor wasn't too too happy. What basicaly happened was the motor started burning out,and it started to smell like burning paper. It is dangerious, and whenever you hear a motor buzzing this loud and not turning, or turning in ripples, you HAVE to turn ity off IMEDIATLY or else it could catch fire. Something is wrong with the main control gear inside the inner workings of program wheel. Or it vould be just a simple failed motor capacitor. If the problem is capacitor, then just replace it and the maschine will work again.

It seems you either get exceptionally unlucky or lucky with modern appliances like this, sucks Maytag went out of business in the early 2000s and were bought by whirlpool and crank out this stuff, my dream is to find an older mechanical timer Neptune front loader, but getting an older whirlpool direct drive would be ur best bet, but it seems to be cheap manufacturing in the drive components for the motor, electronics should far outlast anything mechanical and yet they don’t. Go but something refurbished it’ll be ur best bet

Its ALL appliances now. JUNK!!! Remember when buying a washing machine the expectation was 10 years before problems. Same with stoves and refrigerators. I reckon the manufacturers figured out they were not making enough$$$ and decided to start selling computerized JUNK. I HATE COMPUTERIZED APPLIANCES.
We have a wall oven that is dead. The control board probably got fried in a lightning surge. Most "analog" appliances will withstand a surge but not those delicate computers. There is NO surge protector made that will withstand lightning other than unplugging. And how does one unplug a hard-wired appliance?
We are being hosed by the appliance manufacturers. If I won the lotto I could triple my money by building an analog only appliance manufacturing plant.
