I just realized this might take place in one of the bomb bunkers that 50 Blessings built while preparing for the nuclear war to start. The animal masked people confused Evan for a 50 Blessings official who "gave them the right to stay there" and that's why they didn't kill him.
All these hidden scenes with Evan, all of them with the brown filter and the thunder... It's giving me the impression that they're tied to the rumored "Good Ending." Maybe if you find all of them in one run, Evan finds the truth and thwarts 50 Blessings' coup at the end?
I really am hoping there is another ending/good ending, I haven't found all the newspaper clippings yet and I haven't finished Hard Mode yet since I'm terrible, but I do hope some guy manages to uncover everything in the game. Plus I'm really anxious for the release of the level editor and perhaps ninja updates from Dennaton that adds more content similar to how they added 2 extra (albeit not story related) bonus chapters in the first game.
DiscoNachoPiggy I think( and hope) the "good ending is related to the president assasination, i supose it was performed by a masked man(like the killers) and i think you get enough evidence to stop the killer adn therefore the explosion of the atomic bomb.
URreadingmyaccname They are going to implement Steam Workshop but don't worry, going with the alpha version of the level editor, exporting maps, uploading them somewhere else and then importing them back to anyone's game is entirely possible. Especially since the GOG version doesn't have Steam Workshop, I don't think the devs will allow anyone to get left behind the fun stuff.
MrViki2009 Yeah... But let's be honest. I'd rather have a series end at an understandable/necessary time, than have it milked to the point of where the udders fall off.
The Masks are telling Evan, who isn't a killer, to leave, because he doesn't belong with the killers. He has no place with them in that vault, because he actually has a chance at a normal life, again, depending on your choices later in the game. Of course, in the end, the choices don't actually matter, now do they?
There's a lot of ways to interpret that scene. But imo I think its just like hotline Miami level, you can interpret one way or the other. This time the answer isnt free though.
I had a "friend" who said that hotline miami is not that good, and the soundtrack is ok. I could not disagree with him more, I loved this and the original. Then again he thinks call of duty is a good game so.....
i'm just imagining evan going home to his wife with a gunhole casually in his chest like "yea dont worry honey its fine i just got it when i went to a random bomb shelter with a bunch of masked men in it and a bunch of men with guns randomly appeared behind me no biggie"
I aced this level by forcing Evan to go into rage mode. It enables Evan to use guns and knives. In the last room there's a shitload of gunmen, and having a gun makes it easier.
but if you go 'rage mode' you can't disable the guns, which is a lot of extra points and helps continue streaks, so going 'rage mode' is just not in character for evan and doesn't get you that A+
i guess the best way of getting an highscore is to go in rage mode only for the last stage, since otherwise you can't do a full combo on it, i did it this way, got an s
yeah i think it might be a reference, hotline miami does sound similar to hotline milwaukee too by name unless dennaton ripped off hotline milwaukee...
@@Nachy just to clarify, the publishers of Hotline Miami, Devolver, release a Devolver Bootleg, which are official bootlegs of their games. Hotline Milwaukee is the bootleg version of Hotline Miami.
This is how I got an s on this level:Do the first 2 rooms peacefully(not killing the guys, disabeling guns, racking up combos) Then in the 3rd room go into rage mode (you can do that in the start of the room with those 2 guys with meele weapons in the start or the 2 guys with pistols in the little rooms on the side) and unload the fires of hell upon them.
Not a fan of using rage mode myself (though I do acknowledge it can be necessary especially in Hard Mode) but yeah that is a pretty solid strat. I did pretty awful in this video myself lol, but I've gotten better overtime since I recorded this a few years ago.
"Don't make us do something we don't want to do!" If Evan perhaps found out the truth, then maybe there could've been a 3rd game. Imknow they mean that they don't want to kill evan, but this is a special level, maybe it has a hidden truth?..
If the people in the bunker would in deed members of 50 blessing and not homeless people they probably just let Evan go because it doesn't matter if they kill him in the bunker or not because the nukes were going to be drop so they have nothing to worry about if Evan did made the book and become famous for it
I see a lot of interpretations of what the masks guy could mean, but i have another one (WITH PROOFS): Theses are just homeless guys that wanted a place to sleep at night, they went to the 50 blessings old bunker (this level) and wears masks to scare away people that could hurt them. The "deal" they are refering to is probably something like "let us stay here at night, and you live" or something like that, since they can pretend to be the masked murderers. The proof i have is the guy wearing the chicken mask, if you check the sprites, you will notice it is the same guy than the homeless guy in the metro, and the sprites here are named things like "sprMaskHoboChicken.png". So there is not much room for interpretation. It might look disapointing but i feel like it is actualy a key element to the lore we don't understand yet. When I think of the homeless guy in the first game, that teach how to kill, and also apear in the trash behind the bar of broken heros, and the fact that these guys somehow seemed to be aware of a connection between 50 blessings and the masks (why wearing them in here ?), i feel like this is not something disapointing, but something hiting at a connection between the lore and the homless guys. The best theroy i can make out of this is that maybe at first, 50 blessings didn't have much founds and used homless people that were desperate for food and money, to be able to have cheap ways of starting the movment.
Didn't think anyone would still be talking about HM's plot, pretty neat. But yeah I think it is likely these are just homeless guys that may have been used by 50 Blessings as cheap and available fodder. Homeless veterans too are common enough, so it can be assumed a good bunch of these homeless folks were veterans of the Hawaiian conflict who got down on their luck when they got back home.
Upon rewatching it, I got the impression that these masks were actually a vision of Evan’s family rejecting him after he tried to go back to them before he gave up his book. Doesn’t really explain the whole “deal” portion of staying “after dark.” Your theory makes a lot of sense now.
few spoilers but anyone notice the connection between the opening title screen and the Hotline Miami 3 screen? -- Its Miami in the moment being nuked and the latter is the city after the blast. *MIND - BLOWN* Also the cover of the game foreshadows the nuking of San Fransisco and the fate of the bearded shopkeeper/Sargent you can see people being burned alive screaming in terror. *MIND BLOWN # 2* When the creators said there would be twists they were not kidding.
You can unlock this by completing last level with Jake without diying (only at floor 3) and picking up a floppy disk at the end cutscene when the guy goes for coffee
open areas, with a bunch of enemies you can't see, almost all of them are using weapons, they have a half- second reaction and you're playing with evan, OH BOY, this is hlm2's bad level design at its finest.
I can't verify it right now, but I remember hearing it from somewhere Dennaton created this particular level first in terms of atmosphere and looks, and had enemy placements last, which results in an incohesive flow and broken design. Though I will also admit I played pretty badly on my part.
I love both games but think the creators are saying with the whole "there's nothing you can do about it" ending of everything is a commentary on people and gamers in general. We try and find hidden levels and meanings when in reality there are a lot of bigger problems in the world to worry about that could be catastrophic.
