  • The GLE-Class might not be the first name in Mercedes-Benz SUVs - that’s a title that undoubtedly belongs to its status-symbol sibling G-Class - but it’s certainly the brand’s best.
    That’s a bold claim considering the other models this midsize sport utility shares space with on dealer lots, but it’s the GLE’s just-right approach to practically everything that makes it the gem of the lineup. And when it comes to the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350, you can add affordability to that list, too. AutoTrader.ca Road Test Editor Dan Ilika tests the four-cylinder version of Mercedes' midsize crossover determine to how it measures up against its V6 siblings.

    Great review, the 2 litre 4 cyl engine is awesome and outperforms the previous model 6 cyl engine. Acceleration is quick, zippy and awesome, overtaking is fun. I could not differentiate between the steel spring suspension and the air bag suspension. It’s not vintage Cadillac, but still smooth but firm where it has to be. I do find that the start stop is flawless and the seats are extremely comfortable. Yes, the rear room is teenagerous. Note that the 7 seater does not come with a spare tire. The infotainment system is…. Well there is nothing out there that comes close, except the eqs.

    I have a 2021 GLS350 4Matic SUV, and let me tell you, the inline 4 is powerful enough for city and highway cruising. I do not need to tow at all so for me I got a specked out GLE350 and it is all I need. When I take my GLE350 for service, the dealer always gives me a GLE450 as a loaner while my GLE350 is being serviced. I guess they want to upgrade to a GLE450. I can't front the GLE450, which is more powerful than the GLE350, but I will never exploit or enjoy that power on my commute as I drive 90% of the time in rush hour traffic.

    I agree with the seat being uncomfortable. I’m convincing myself that I’ve been sitting incorrectly for years & hoping the soreness goes away

    Shameless Mercedes naming this sub 300HP 4 pot economy engine a 350.

      Don’t let the numbers fool you. This vehicle is a machine, an amazing machine. Trust me. Makes my v8 4.6l beloved caddy seem like a snail.

      This 4 turbo is zippy. The transmission does a good job staying in the power band and shifts quickly. Much faster than I thought it was going to be, will smoke most v6 with ease.

    Im not bothered by the ignition starts/stops at the light, but is it good for the transmission in the long run?

    I’ve owned a GLE 350 for a few months now and the 4cyl is way more than enough. The automatic transmission does a lot of the heavy lifting by finding the right gears exactly when you need it. I can pass people with ease and I can get 28 mpg on the highway. Towing is rated at 7k because towing is more about chassis and braking more than hp.

      How do you find the jerky shifting? I’m on my 4th MB and I found all of their g-tronics very jerky from 1~4 give or take.

    • @postalpancho
      @postalpancho Год назад

      @@inevahdie it is actually incredibly smooth. The GLE and ML350 are entirely different vehicles mechanically speaking. It may be because having a turbo allows the vehicle to stay at lower RPMs so shifting feels much improved. I’m still happy with how responsive the car is, it feels much faster than it actually is.

      I've gotten up to 30 mpg on the highway in my GLE 350! On adaptive cruise control (only available with their driver assistance package) and on Eco mode... this thing is quite fuel efficient for the build!

      @@amandaavia just traded my wife’s GLE350 last wee for a 2023 Escalade. Interior wise it was definitely a downgrade but unfortunately Mercedes not BMW make anything that competes with the Escalade in terms of size. Going to miss the Mercedes. Hope you enjoy yours, I really did like mine.

    In Mercedes defense, even Genesis and Lexus reserve leather seats for higher trims or packages. Genesis uses a leatherette and Lexus Nuluxe. They’re only $5k below Mercedes for similar base builds, but Mercedes will let you pick and choose features that are packaged in high level trims especially with the Genesis.
