Your car is really sweet. Mine is a 2004B6A4USP3.06MT in ocean blue metallic. Owned for 5 years, amazingly reliable. With suspension mods and exhaust, 50/50 quattro, the USP is superb value for money with 27 mpg. Love that V8 sound tho ...
LOL !! Your absolutely correct about the Skibag !!! (I owned exactly the same car as yours, but with black interior) in the 2000's, it was an absolute dream, glad these old girl's are finding good homes. Look after it ! (its a piece of history - sad I sold mine).
I absolutely love the red S4 B6!!! I just prefer the saloon. I barely do 5k miles per year so fuel economy is not a big deal for me. But the timing chain scares me off!!!
When buying the S4 I was looking at the 6 and the 8’s with the V10 but the insurance cost difference was immense. It is nice, never really appreciated it but moved house last week and used it full to the brim with kit and it felt no different. No replacement for displacement!
I have a B6 USP Avant 6 speed 1.8tq. I love my car. However, the small parts in the interior typically won't hold up. Soft touch plastics were a feature that plagued this generation of german cars. I would love an S4 but my previous (and first) car was a Passat W8 with the slush box auto and I don't miss the fuel economy from a big 8 cylinder. I also don't miss the understeer. Though it is still very much present in my B6, it is much less prominent on the 1.8t platform. I can't imagine the understeer on an S4 could possibly be less than what is is in my 1.8t. Also any Audi that is offered as an Avant should be one. Not only do they look better, but the weight distribution is also superior. My USP has a supposed 50/50 weight distribution according to people on Audizine. Otherwise I definitely agree with your points. As said before I would love an S4 but the upkeep and other things scare me off. I'll probably buy an overpriced, and improperly maintained old 3 series for my next car. Overall the B6 is for sure the most underrated gen. Plenty of people found the B6 to be a huge step up from the B5 and the B7 to be compromised in many ways compared to the B6. I reckon it's a happy medium car in Audi's history. Good video mate
Yes it’s a far from perfect car and probably the worst thing about owning it is the fact everyone has a bad word to say about them but quite frankly people forget that it’s a N/A v8 in a wagon from one of the famous trio of German cars. It’s a humble car and nothing else. Thanks for the comment mate 👍🏼
Loved the video. A lot of “homemade” vids (sorry for the insult) tend to be repetitive, sometimes unobjectively passionate and disorganised. I think the way you stuck to the key points was good and a good overview. Some feedback would be that, the background music was a bit distracting (just my opinion of course) and after a long while it got slightly disorienting from the camera angle being held while you were moving around. Definitely will check back in and like the videos to support! Thank you for this!
Thank you I appreciate you spending time to watch the video. Yes the music has 50/50 feedback, some like it some don’t. I will note it for part 2 and lower the volume. Thanks mate hopefully I’ll get round to doing something else with it! 🤟🏼
@@Tfox89 you're also very welcome for being open to critical feedback.. a lot of youtubers can't understand that when you post something online you are automatically opening your opinion to others and they will also have their own. Aside though, I have been looking for a B5-7 gen S/RS4 as a daily for a while now and the ones with proof of proper timing belt services are tough to find. And those that have it are in a colour or trim combination I am not keen on. I am secretly fearful of getting impulsive one day and just going for an E46 325/330ix wagon.. and I'm talking out my ass as if those were any easier to find lol.
@@popcorny11 yeah I get you, I wouldn’t be too scared. My opinion, I’ve had mine since February and I’ve done 6k miles in that time. Mine is on 92k and has NO timing chain service completed. It’s a good car… you will be paying a lot to maintain it but that’s expected. But don’t be put off. If you’re mechanically sympathetic and respect the car it will be fantastic as mine has been. It breaks all the time in stupid places but hey it keeps you on your toes. Good luck finding one you’re happy with I got lucky with mine I believe as it’s exactly what I wanted!
This is a great review and you’re exactly right on all points, though I am a bit biased. V8 and manual in a (relatively) compact car is totally unique (bar say an e92) and is such a brilliant thing to own, the looks are way better than the b7 and when they changed to 60:40 they wanted some BMW customers and lost some originality.
Thanks mate really appreciate the kind comment. My first video and I can tell I’m a bit shy and ramble on but they shall get better I hope. Thanks for your time to watch and comment!
I see the effort put on the video mate.. Well done. If you want to upgrade your steering wheel you can fit a b8 a4 mfsw and code it to work. I had it on my b6 a4 way back when and it controlled the rns-e I retrofitted as well.
And then you have to do the timing chains, a big bill from vag technic as result. For now, you need to do the head liner and buy some original S4 rims and its great!
@@Tfox89 the rims have nothing to do with like or dislike but originallity. The rs4 you have now are not factory wheels but some aftermarket one’s, its a heavy car.
@@Rol1Co yes like I said I have them. They’re actually currently on the car as the 19’s need new tyres. I am keeping the 18s cause I do want the car to remain original but I won’t be using them as I don’t like the aesthetic. The RS4 wheels are genuine ones not reps. 👍🏼
Do not buy if you're cheap and don't want to spend thousands to keep it running.. this car is not for broke people and should be on some sort of list of cars that broke people should avoid..
I kinda agree, I think the problem is these cars have become cheap and easily accessible. It’s a bit like buying an old Range Rover sport, the maintenance is the same cost as when it was new no matter how much the car was. If these cars were 15-20k people would have the cash to look after them, because they’re the same price as a Citroen 1.6 diesel people buy them and can’t run them. It is horrendous to run financially but I knew what I was getting into!
I agree! I think the B7 RS4 looks better because of the aggressive arches but the S4 B7 doesn’t look as good so I prefer the 6! Plus IMO the B7 looks stuck between 2010 and 2001 it doesn’t look like it knows how old it is… if you get what I mean lol
Great vid, like you I like the feel of driving a car which you do not get in modern cars now. I’m also currently looking for a s4 and the convertible offer even more value for money as there are quite a few in good condition under £5k, whereas the hard top you are looking for a good one is around the 7k. What stereo have you fitted?
Thanks mate I appreciate the comment. It was just a eBay head unit with CarPlay etc, I have now removed it as I didn’t like the aesthetic. It was a brilliant stereo but I just think it looks better with its OEM unit in. I think I paid £150 for it so it is good value for money with wireless CarPlay etc 😎
@@Tfox89 the one I’m looking at has a sat Nav screen, so will probably stick oem for originality and there maybe a imway using some wires/software to add Apple play to the original screen
Is that the standard exhaust sound? I bought mine pretty much straight piped and was going to put some mufflers on it as the fun has worn off and my ears are bleeding.
Just has miltek tips that’s all, completely standard other than that. It’s ‘perfect’ in my opinion, when you want to be quiet you can and when you want loud you can put your foot down. I didn’t think tips would make a difference but I’ve tried different things and all shapes and sizes they all change the sound quite drastically!
Hi, I was checking out one today and was thinking about buying it, it is in goodwood green with 20000km, and the engine has been fitted with rs4 b7 chain adjusters, they are asking for 8000 quid, i am unsure if i should get it, been looking for one for a while and i would like to get it. What would you do/think?
Yes 80k or 10 years. And being as I won’t be doing 80k in it, 10 years will come before, which £4000 split into 10 years is £400 a year, or £33.33 a month recurring. So as much as you’re proud to bring up the cars biggest and most obvious flaw, it doesn’t really matter if you enjoy the car. By your picture you have a MK6 GTI, that’s your choice.
