my dad just asked me why i was so excited about a "defective" plant hahahah
Lol, my friend asked me why my plant is sick with holes all over 🤣
I saw a post once on Reddit where a lady had thought monstera deliciosa didn't naturally grow holes over time. She thought you bought a baby one and just cut the leaves to make it trendy, and was super confused when her plants started dying. She went through multiple before she asked for help!
Sometimes people new to plants just don't get the hole thing haha
U r kidding 😳
😅
Actually feeling sorry for her
I thought I just got a bad one that didn't want to make holes, then when I looked up care I saw it won't get holes for a few leaves.
@@divyasasidharan2960 oh no, it did happen.
I brought one of these home one day, along with about ten other plants because I have no self control, and my boyfriend picks it up and says "I actually like this one." 😂😂
Me too. No control. Haha
I call mine the Monstera assholii despite knowing it’s totally my fault it’s sad 😅 I needed this video.
I think your naming is the best!
That’s a perfect name for this plant! Mine is such a jerk!
As soon as I saw this I thought, "monstera Assholii" lol
Why dont you like it?
Relieved that I'm not the only person to do this! It's so finicky.
This plant is called "Fensterblatt" in German, which means "window plant". Cause it looks like it has windows in it, which I think is adorable!
Guten morgen
Really
The word “fenestrations” actually means “windows”.
I love how concise your videos are. You don't get too rambley at all. With some channels I find myself slipping through a 4 minute intro for plant info. 😊 This is much better for me.
talking about planterina XD
My neighbor gave me several plant cuttings when I moved in as a welcome, and this plant was one of them. I thought something was wrong with it because of the holes 🤷🏾♀️. I soil your propagated it anyway, and my sister and I looked at it and both said “it’s not going to make it” LOL. Now it’s thriving and throwing new leaves and I love it!
lol
You gotta keep it cz it’s expensive asf
@@meljp7015 no it’s not
@@meljp7015 it's really not.. unless it has white variegation
my boyfriend saw my adansonii and thought i have caterpillar infestation lol
My mom questioned why I bought a plant with “broken leaves” 😂
This is hilarious!
Lol! Thats too funny!
I grow mine on my front porch and I have so much new growth. It literally gets a new leaf every other day. This is my new favorite plant!
Wow!
I acclimated my MA to a SW facing window last September. It’s been putting out a new leaf every week since January and will soon outgrow it’s pole. 😳
If I ever have a plant "hmmm" I seek your wisdom. Never fails. You have the advice. Thank you for what you do.
Agree how sensitive this plant is when watering. Would normally water my plants once a week, and noticed my adansonii’s old leaves were turning yellow. Thought because it’s normal for old leaves to turn yellow (which is normal in some cases) but then realized it only happens after watering it. Thanks for the watering tips.
How serendipitous! I’m literally getting ready to repot mine today. Adding orchid bark is a great tip. Thanks and stay safe. 🌿✨
I bought one in a 6” container yesterday for $10. They overwatered it so its spindly but still worth that price!
I got one at Lowes for $10!
i spent 25 on mine, i wish i could’ve found one for 10
Whoa where I live they’re 30 pesos (1.50 usd)
Wawww
In hv at my house my andansonii for 5 years🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think this is the most complete and understanding plant care video that I’ve ever seen!!! Thank you very much!!! About watering, thats right “it depends on everyones homes and enviroments” 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Me encantó!!!
Perfect timing! I just got this plant 2 weeks ago after lots of searching. Thank you for the care tips! ❤️🌿
I’ve heard of new growth growing through the holes in other leaves lol you def need to keep an eye out for that! I have a round form and some new growth is doing that lol love your videos Nick ! ♥️♥️
We never saw the one on the moss pole 😭
No I was waiting for that
just got a standard form adansonii that was labeled as an obliqua!! been on my wishlist forever :)
One of my absolute faves. Mine started to grow like crazy recently 🌱
My aunt just gave me some barely rooted adansonii cuttings. I accidentally knocked the long roots off of one cutting when I was trying to get it positioned around a bamboo stake to see if I can get it to grow up the pole. I hope they survive and thrive. I put them in my standard aroid potting mix that has coconut husk chunks, coarse orchid bark, some perlite and a bit of cactus soil mixed into fox farm ocean forest potting soil. I tend to be a little heavy handed with watering so I try to make sure the final soil mix is very quick draining while still retaining some moisture
Thank you for helping me understand better the difference in some of my plants.
Bought mine off etsy.
Came in great shape.
Thank you so much Nick, I really really enjoyed your video and your informative comment on the Monkey Mask Plant. I have two of these in my home, and I’m going to propagate them soon. I really really appreciate your words of wisdom too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤❤
I was able to get one for $6 on a 4 inch pot at the farmers market. It looks like a propagation and I’m so excited to see it grow
hahah I laughed out loud at your sisters reaction to the holes in the leaves!
Thank you for the info! Also, you get right into the subject and stay on the subject. On most videos like this, the maker of the video wanders off down “rabbit holes” and ramble. Thank you for this quality of video!
Love your plant and your sister’s reaction to the holes 😂
You are so right Nick. I live in the Caribbean and have one on the verandah that has to be watered twice a week. Withthe growing season , I now have 4 or 5 new plants and they propagate easily in potting mix. One of my favourites. Tfs💚💚
I love your videos! Such an inspiration for a new plantdaddy - keep up the good work, Nick!
I have bring a monstera adensoni from a plant lover and very excited watching your videos.
OMG I'm so glad you addressed about the different types. I have bought both because I wasn't sure which one was it... LOL
Either way I love them both. Before this I kept calling the narrow leaf one pothos swiss cheese because it reminded me more of them.
Thanks for the tip on the window I'm gonna have to switch it out from where it is before it burns.
Thanks for the tips.😄
I have no idea what variety mine is, but it just got it's first holy leaf! I bought it from a local greenhouse because it was pretty, but then someone online was showing theirs & it dawned on me that new plant might be a monstera! New holy leaf confirmed my suspicions! OVER THE MOON HAPPY!
These plants have stole my heart. I have one small mother plant. I keep taking cuttings from her to plant back into the port to make it a fuller plant. I have three cuttings rooting now and once planted I will put it on a pole when they start to climb. Mine is the narrow leaf. I so want the wide leaf.
Hahaha..!! My son also said the same thing when he saw the newly bought monstera. He said “ mom this plant is damaged, it has holes”. By the way, you have lovely sdensonii. Thanks for the informative video.
This is one of my favourites ! Got the "wide form", it's so beautiful... It's near a northern window in a macramé and is perfectly happy but I keep the soil tip !
I finally found this plant!! Its so healthy and im looking forward to my new adventure!!
I've been growing a little baby monstera adansonii for around 8 months now!!! It's not nearly as big as yours, and has very few fenestrations, i hope as it ages they'll get bigger! Thanks so much for this video, just discovered you and totally subscribing :)
That narrow one is really lovely. Mine is growing upright but I find I need to keep adjusting the stakes because the plant findspecies ways to sneak around it.
Great video though, thanks for sharing.
I love all of your videos!!! Thanks for the information on the Adonsonii!
omg I just got one this morning. so happy u made this video 😍
Paid $7 for a 6” at Ace. spindly, no holes, but trailed at least 2-3 feet!
We have no choice but to Stan that vocabulary
These videos are so helpful for a beginner plant collector!! Thanks so much 💛
In Florida, they grow up trees and the leaves get two feet long.
My biggest leaf is standing @ 2ft & 11 inches!!!
Where in Florida? I wanna get a cut

Can’t wait to add one of these to my collection! Fantastic video 😊 thanks for sharing!
I have a very sad tale, my MA didn't do well, i grew it in a well draining pumice mixed with coir in an East facing area and gradually it lost leaves and was put on my "death row" !
However having spent the winter as sticks, i am starting to see some little bits of green, so hoping i give it better treatment this year OR the minute this confinement ends I'll be buying a replacement! 😂🤣😂
Update, first new leaves have unfurled, and (cross fingers) it looks to be on the mend!
I got a narrow leaf form adansonii about 4 months ago and about a month ago I got the regular leaf form, looking for the wide leaf form now. I have to say I've watched this video countless times since I got my first adansonii lol
Great video, just picked one up today and I’m excited. I’ve wanted this one for a long time!
I love this plant! I had one that only one stem grew, and it when it got to be about 10 feet long I tried to propagate it. No luck. So now it's just throwing again and is about 6 feet long. I just went out and bought a really full one from the nursery and it's beautiful!
you never showed us the narrow form growing on the moss pole!
Jeneral Surgeon I was saying the same thing
This is upsetting
I’ve been waiting to see hahah
IKR. Clickbait!!!! I've been cheated, dammit! 🤣
I love this plant ! Thank you for the care tips 😃
I love the adansonii too. I think I like the wide form more. Thanks for the video.
Hi fellow Philadelphian! Thank you for the super informative, easy to understand video. I stumbled upon your channel looking for information on a Monstera adansonii I bought in Media, PA. I am becoming quite the plant addict and this was a new plant friend I was super excited to find. Appreciate the information you shared.
Hi Nick! This plant is still at the top of my wish list. Hoping to find one this year. Thank you for sharing your time! Stay safe!
Thanks for sharing your plant care and tips
I have the narrow form version but can't wait to get the wide form soon!! These are the best plants!!
I’ve just built a moss pole for mine and I think I’m going to cut a stem for propagation. It’s growing sooooo much
I’ve just ordered one of these, a tradescantia sitara and some English ivy (my first hanging plant) ❤️ I have 9 plants currently and 8 are surviving, 1 isn’t doing so well so I figured I’d do my research this time!
I have mine and I propagate them..So beautiful. And just now,I just propagate the second batch..
I have a deliciciosa instead but this video was helpful. Viola doesn't have a moss pole yet, she's still a baby, but she's been flopped over one side for ages and i didn't know why until now, so thanks! Will get her set up so she can climb ASAP
I love this plant! Havent had an opportunity to buy it yet but I am continuing to search...
Don't tell my other plants, but my adansonii is my favorite child
I will like to have that plant,we only have the wild one that grow in the forest it is so huge runs on massive trees love your 💓 plants
I had a very tiny small cutting and I really wish it well grow nicely like yours .
I got one finally the trending tropicals from Walmart
How did I just realize that you are in Philly? Just got this plant from a local nursery and want to make sure I do good by it, I have been searching for a decent specimen and found a giant one to bring home. 🌿🌱😁
most helpful adansonii vid thank you!!!
Beautiful plants
Wonderful
We have pretty dry air at home, Monkey is right next to the eastern window. I water her every 3days (when the top 2cm of the soil are dry) :)
Well.today i bought an adansonii and my mother in law had the same reaction about the holes. 😁😁😁
Simona Cucicea my friend said why all the holes..ick! I was amused..
This is one of my wish list plants, and I'm hoping to get it this year. Thanks so much Nick for this series on your channel, it is fun and fascinating. Stay safe and healthy and I will see you soon, bye for now.
I hv the giant adansonii😂😂😂
Do you want some
@@evitetriyani6005 You are super sweet, I did manage to get me a small one in a 4 inch pot that is the narrow leaf. Someday when I have more room and that will be next year I will find me a huge one because they are just the most awesome plant, I'm really loving my small girl, she is climbing up the bamboo stick I have her on. Thanks for being so wonderful.
Love your videos! So informative, thank you!!!
Well now I'm definitely know why my adansonii has yellow leaves
I was waiting to see your one you have growing up a pole.
Just bought like a whole vine the other day.. for Php 200 (like 4 dollars? And thats a 6 leaf vine) and not in the best condition maybe becuz it was in such a hot and humid environment while it was shipped cuz it was covered in a plastic bottle so that the moisture is retained but because of the couriers the inside was very. VERY. HOT. i found that my plant's leaves are now like wilting turning mushy and black maybe leaf rot.. maybe because of all the shock? So now it has 2 surviving very very damaged leaves and so im leaving it be for now after i potted it up.. hopefully hopefully hopefully this plant survives (im 90% sure it can cuz its a very very tough plant but yeah..) cuz it has healthy roots so hopefully this survives cuz this is one of the most important plant in my wishlist of plants and now i have it but not in the best condition so yea.. just wanted to share my first adansonii experience but hopefully once i update this its all lush and beautiful like Nick's!
Good tips!
I loved your video.I have three Monestera Adasonii plants and I did not know that there were a narrow and wide versions. I was waiting for them to vine. It seems that it takes a while for the wider version to vine. I want them to trail, yet they want to climb.
Thank you.
this is the one plant im struggling with its just one very long vine with not many leaves...so pretty
I really struggle with the narrow form getting yellow leaves. My round form is perfectly happy though! I’ve had both for about two years now.
Lately every time I need plant care guides, I always check to see if you've uploaded anything about it! Question: is there a reason some leaves will look wrinkled/shriveled, while others looks nice and soft? I noticed you have a mix of leaves in your pot, which gave me hope that I'm not alone in this....
actually, there are four forms of monstera adansonii. they are Monstera Adansonii ssp. Laniata, Monstera Adansonii ssp. Adansonii, Monstera Adansonii ssp. Klotzschiana and Monstera Adansonii ssp. Blanchetii. The one you showed to us as wide form is in fact Monstera Affinity Lechleriana, and the narrow form is Monstera Adansonii ssp. Laniata. Difference between aff.lechleriana and ssp. laniata isnthe leaf form, in aff.lech. it is more round and more ruffled and a wee bit thicker than in laniata. also in affinity lechleriana, the leaf petiole's "wings" are prominent and stay green, but on ssp. Laniata they are deciduous, meaning they turn brown and withered. Laniata is the only form of adansonii in cultivation, the three other forms are found only in collections of very few individuals.
Thank you Nick..very helpful!!
Top tips thank you.
I bought one of these recently from home depot. It came in a small round glass bowl of water, no soil. So far I've been trying to keep it in the glass it came in, but recently I started to get the lower leaf yellowing. I'm not sure if the issue is the water it's in, or if its nutrients. I figured maybe nutrients because I know it could have been in Home Depot for awhile since it was last fertilized, so I gave it some a few days ago. Patiently waiting to see if that solves the problem, or if I'm just going to have to plant it in dirt to make it happy.
Great video and great content. Would love to know more about what are the best ways to propagate it. I got one with two long vines that are growing leaves further and further apart so thinking of doing some cuttings. But, id love some more suggestions or guidance on what's the best way to do it. Love this plant. Thanks Nick
I love your videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! ♥️☘️♥️
A great video! I am on the hunt for mine
Hi nick, just received my monstera and not sure of the soil they has prepared in the shop... should I repot in a larger pot with my mix for monsteras (50% universal soil, 25% perlite and 25% bark for orchids)?
Hi Nick, I got an Adansonii for Christmas. It's in a 4 inch pot. However there are some roots growing out of the top. Should I repot?
Thank you for this video! My adansoniis leaves at the base of the pot where turning yellow and falling off. It was root bound and had some mold in the soil. I think I was over watering. Makes me wish I didn't just water it yesterday 🤣😭 I'm really hating the way it looks right now. Very leggy and kinda naked. All the new growth is very small. I've been debating throwing it out and starting over lol
Over water and not enough light is causing small new growth
Why throw it out when you can just trim it down?? Or cut off some pieces & plant them...
wow i really love that plant.
OMG look so nice, i have a nice one
mine just looks like shit all the time. I've tried bright light, low light, keeping the soil dry, keeping it moist, upstairs, downstairs. I've come to the conclusion some plants for whatever reason just don't like my air. This one, spider plants, tradescantia nanouk, and white fusion. I've tried multiple times with these and they just hate my house. I did discover that dumb canes thrive in water in my house. They used to die too, haha. 😆
thanks brah
for a how to you do assume a lot of things, what fertilizer? when is grow season? what signs to look for for over or under water?
Could I use a spray with essential oils to keep pest away from this plant?
Hello 👋 How bout planting and growing in PON, is that advisable? Thank you! 🙂
