    I met this wonderful couple last nite, 8 January 2022, at the Last Vegas Astronomy Society Star Party at Spring Mountain Ranch in Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas. They are real people doing real science and plan to meet with them socially very soon. They have a lot of knowledge to share. Glad I met them.

    Great video. M42 is probably the most beginner-friendly target there is. As you said, it is not only easy to find in the night skies, but you can get a pretty decent result with a minimum of data. This was the target that got me hooked. One night I aimed my badly focused 1500mm MAK and a Canon DSLR with all the wrong settings towards it. That 30-second trailed, out-of-focus mess of an image showed colors and faint arms!!

    I’ve been following your Orion story from the beginning, and this video was a real “gas” (S, H, O) ;)! Nice description of combining different exposure values to get detail in the core Trapezium and the molecular cloud! I still love your wide field Orion!

    Great video guys. Very interesting and helpful. Im in the middle of capturing this. I'm trying to get at least 20 hours with a bunch of different exposure times but the clouds are not making it easy. , Hopefully it turns out ok!
    All the best and Clear Skies!!!

    we had a clear new moon this month, but after a miserable night of trying to shoot Orion last january, this year was even colder. -31F. I said "well Ill just hope for one last chance in march maybe". Ill never try to image in those temps again! great video!

    • @GalacticHunter
      @GalacticHunter  2 года назад +1

      -31F?! Wow, that's crazy! I don't know if I would have the courage to image all night in these temperatures 😅

      @@GalacticHunter I tried last year, and this year even though the new moon was clear, I did not feel guilty about being warm inside!!!

    Thanks for this! I live in spring valley in the lakes, and it's really awesome to see a pro here in Vegas to learn from.. my set up is pretty rudimentary, using Canon r6 and 24-105 f4 L lens with an irix light pollution filter. Getting a star adventurer 2i today actually!

      My first Orion, yesterday, looks like your 30 sec b9 photo on the left at 3:33 .. that was without a tracker tho. So 2-4 second max

    • @GalacticHunter
      @GalacticHunter  2 года назад

      Awesome! The R6 is a great camera to start with, I am not a huge fan of light pollution filters for most targets, but if you drive 45minutes North or South you'll get some nice dark skies and you won't have to use any filters :)

      @@SinCityDarkKnight Great place! Sadly the bright Milky Way band is not visible anymore, so you'll have the Winter/Spring sky instead which is less impressive than in Summer, but if you shoot anything around Orion you'll get a nice pic for sure.

      @@GalacticHunter hmm. I thought milky way season depending on latitude for the northern hemisphere is marchish to October ish, often earlier depending on location. A friend took a beautiful one yesterday of mw from the Rockies in Colorado...

    You mentioned about doing shirt exposures and some longer exposures for the dust detail. How do you then combine both lots of exposures. Do you stack them all together or do two different stacks and then layer them on top of each other and bring the non blown out trapezium through ??

    • @drasst5503
      @drasst5503 2 года назад +2

      you stack them separately
      and in post processing blend the trapezium in

    Great video you two! Just the tips that I was looking for. Do you have a video on how to combine short and long exposure images (I assume you stack these separately) in Photoshop? I use ASI 2600 MC Pro and was wondering how to blend the two colour exposure stacks from DSS in photoshop. Thanks. I love your channel. You have taught me so much. Thanks.
