Writing was on the wall when Toto is openly trying to sign Max. Mercedes don't believe in George to be a leader, and why should they? I think things will unravel for him once Lewis leaves.
Mercedes don't even know what they are doing to be frank. They seem to have wanted Russell to beat Lewis, now Lewis is leaving, George don't seem good enough to lead the team anymore. Which does indicate they have been suppressing Lewis and know the truth. If he is replaced by 17 year old Antonelli who hasn't even won F3 and isn't going to win F2, then that is a joke too. I was surprised when George was entitled enough to ask if Lewis will give him back 6th place if he pits, and Mercedes said no. Sure if Lewis weren't leaving or planning to replace George, Lewis would have been forced to pit end the end too.
He never was good enough to lead the team.

Of course he is not a leader. He is so overrated it is incredible he is considered in the same league as Leclerc or Norris.
The problem with Boy George is not so much SLH, but his egocentric approach to racing. To put it differently, he's not a team player. So, it does not matter who the teammate is or will be, his attitude towards that mate will be the same we see now with SLH.
Imagine if Rumours are true about who Mercedes want to sign? After 5/6 races realised that George never wanted to learn or be Wingman. Not good for new guy in the team

@@sbinnala44 Yes, George sets his car up to do the fastest single lap and relies on safety car luck. Lewis sets his car up for the race, especially these last 3 gen Merc cars.
I would be edging for an Aston Martin seat there is no guarantee Mercedes will even have things sorted by 2026 and beyond.

GR is an average f1 driver like the other bottom 10. He will never been able to be the no1 driver but just a backup which he failed since the start of his f1 wet dream.
