Our SYNOLOGY 1515+ MOTHERBOARD burned out after 3yrs on April15. This was the backup storage device for a medium size CPA firm. Major Panic right? Well Synology overnighted a brand new device to us and told us just to transfer the 5 disk raid 5 to the new device. With 1 click of the recovery button on boot, the entire device was back with no issue and all settings the same. Got to say I was very very very impressed with this device after 3 yrs. 5 stars
VMware support is pretty good, we are using that for a small office. It supports both paid and free versions of ESXi. Until recently they didn’t support 6.7 but it’s all there now. Synology C2 off site backup is cheap and works well too.
Love your vids Mr. Lawrence. On the full metal restore, you can add in drivers using the three dot menu at the top right. Of course, you have to know what those drivers are and have them handy. I just bought a boatload of usb sticks and will be labeling one for each box. Getting ready to redue my network with new switches, firewall, WAP. Will be contacting you for some consulting to help with the plan.
Nevermind I found it. Active Backup for Business 2.2.0 and above supports the concurrent backup of 10 file servers. For personal computers, physical servers, and virtual machines, the maximum number for concurrent backups can be up to 50. The actual number varies by RAM capacity: Less than 8 GB: 10 Between 8 GB and 31 GB: 30 32 GB or more: 50
I love this solution for backups. You combine with hyper backup It seems to do everything I need however I keep having to go around and touch my clients computers every 90 days after the let's encrypt certificate renews. Does anyone know a workaround for this certificate issue I'm having? Every 90 days when I go to the machine I have to trust the certificate after it's new renewed because it's not a public accessible key with the host name.
Love the videos!! Do you think you can do a "how to" on PXE server on this NAS for OS installs, like windows 10. Can not find anything on this. Your help regarding this would be great!
hello! thanks for your super videos in general. Question: how to restore a pc baremetal backup if lets say I cannot connect to the network (where NAS is connected) or in extreme case the NAS is broken? If I use HyperBackup to backup in external device the baremetal backup that was created from ActiveBackup for Business, will I be able to fully restore? if yes, how? thank you very much for your reply.
Thanks for another great video. One question I have is that I have to start the client in my Win10 PC before I start a backup. Did I miss something to make it run all the time?
I found an issue I cannot find a workaround for. With many solutions like this, such as Windows Server Essentials, the backup server can send a WOL message to the client to take it out of sleep, then the client keeps it awake during the backup. Using this, a WOL is never sent, so I can't back up a sleeping PC in the middle of the night, and if I manually fire off the backup, the PC goes to sleep before it finishes. Synology needs to support WOL and their client needs to prevent sleep before this is what I would consider a finished product.
I wish they had an open source DS(nas OS? disk station ?) that can run on a separate server and do the backups on a NAS because, if the NAS fails, can I recover the files without the DS? I'm more worried about the DS itself than the NAS(i can keep the files anywhere but not the software). I hope it makes sense what I wrote.
Thanks for the review! Too bad there's no Mac client available. Since i want to backup also mac its out of question for me :( Gonna try HyperBackup next.. Synology Drive does'nt seem to handle the backups well.
if you have 2 hard drives , a small system ssd and a large hard drive , the best thing to do is bare metal and system , so you can just reinstall the system drive without having to reinstall all drives.
Easy question that no one seems to answer.... What about PC #2? Log in with the DSM admin's creds or with a Username/PW set up for the user of PC #2? Everyone seems to show how to set up a pc/server/etc on ABB and that's it. No one has answered the correct process for setting up and logging into a second device that's not the Admin's device.
The reason they force you to create your own ISO Windows PE recovery environment is due to changes in Microsoft Licensing of WinPE. They CANNOT create the ISO for direct download. Stupid, but true.

I fully agree on the possibility to simplify creating a recovery medium. Great video by the way.

1 question: Why am I getting no-internet connection error while entering my credentials in bootlable USB screen? Should I use LAN connection?

Another Great video Tom !!!
To me it's the perfect solution to back everything up and also edit from. Content creation eats a lot of space ever since everything shoots 4k.
Are the incremental backups forward or reverse delta on the bare metal option?
Does it support the encryption of the backups before they leave the workstations or servers?

Probably not possible, you need to have the Synology working.

I'd love to see someone do a DETAILED video of exactly how to build recovery media for bare metal restore of Linux/Ubuntu box.
I can't get the recovery media to work. Those instructions they give are wrong. When copying their commands and paste in the cmd it doesnt work.

There is, Google XPEnology

Yes, you can create users and give them permission to ActiveBackup
How many computers do you think an 1821+ could handle?
Will this work the same way if I'm running windows as a VM!?
Just install the client and connect to the box.
yes you can treat the VM as a physical server and it will work ;)
@@CrystalNetwork yeah, i thought so, i want to make sure
Amazing review!

Have you tried Qnap...? They have Acronis agent.... Acronis is outstanding for backups!
Not in a while
@@LAWRENCESYSTEMS It's quite nice now and zerotier has a addon APP\Adapter for QNAP. Pretty sweet!
XXX Backup! =o)
i was thinking the same thing! My wife would kill me. #pornstash
Oh, this is the most important information for any real man! ))
