    I graduated from Alamogordo Senior High School in 1980. My father was what is essentially the Chief of Police at Holloman AFB. I left Alamogordo in 1982 and have been in Mississippi ever since then. I miss the west and wish I could return...but circumstances prevent that dream from becoming a reality.
    Anyone one from my era...please tell-me how you are doing. If you need some reference to who I am....I was one of the editors for The Alma Del Tigre magazine.

      I was born in San Diego CA in 1970. Lived here in Alamo with my mom, brother and family for 2 years leaving Dec of 74. I came out to visit my mom on 78 for a couple days and in 1979 spent the entire summer here and did not want to leave. I loved it here so much. 6 years later I got my wish and move in 85. Been here ever since. One of my favorite places was Gibsons. I remember the smell of the sporting goods, lawn and garden part of the store. The toy section was the best. Better than Walmart I think. Elsie at the Knife Shop on New York and Yucca News Stand on 10th were great. The Whitesands Mall was awesome when it first opened and was a great place to go hang out. It was home base for meeting up with my friends on high school. I saw some of the greatest movies in film history in the theater right next to KMart. Those were the days. Oh! Can't forget the Chinese Dragon restaurant. Nothing better since.

    Been to Alamogordo twice in two years. Going to move there in a couple of years. Found it to be a very nice place to make home in retirement. Going to enjoy the sunshine and lack of mid-west winters! Everybody we met was wonderful and friendly. Going to do LOTS of outdoor sporting & exploring.

      Hi Doug! Did you ever move to Alamogordo? A few of us are looking in to moving there and wonder about it and if there are folks as yourself who can give us an honest account about how it is going there. I'm a school teacher in my mid-60s, rockhound, and horse enthusiast, so trying to find my corner of Paradise for my "golden years" and find a like-minded partner in life.

    Hello from Germany. That looks really nice, that would really be a place where I would like to live at the age of 34 :) What about jobs in this place or around it? How is the housing market or could you even build something new? Please excuse my great curiosity :) My neighbor was a German soldier in Alamogordo and approached me when he told me how much nicer it is than here and what can I say, what I see and hear is probably true, especially from the weather and the wide freedom :)

    • @budskrilla2u133
      @budskrilla2u133 6 лет назад

      Horrible school system. Consider home schooling. More interested in sports than education. Nothing for kids to do here but get pregnant and do drugs. Cops are corrupt and judicial system broke. Local government covers up crime and corruption to keep military here. They moved 5 squadrons of F-16s here and they can't get anyone to move here to fill the civilian jobs because it's such a shit hole place to raise children. I live in Cloudcroft and only go to Alamogordo when I have to. Roads are horrible and tear your car up. This town is only here because of the base and they take advantage of the military. New car dealerships take advantage of the troops to. I bought my last truck from a dealer in Texas and saved thousands. I love the mountains and the scenery but most of the people are drunk or addicts because there isn't much else to do unless you are prosecutor or a cop. They stay real busy. A deputy sheriff has been doing hard drugs with young people here and then tried to bust them and the 12th district court DA just dropped 35 felony cases because of this piece of shit. If you dont have to move here don't. But if you do keep your children close and record all encounters with cops.

      Hey there, Krypto! So I'm still working (school teacher), am in my 60s, a country living type of gal, can you say if there are areas that have mini ranches for reasonable in/around Alamogordo? Got my heart set on some rural, yet civilization nearby type of homestead with a well and room for critters.
