The 1975 (Matty Healy’s band if you didn’t know) was a question on Jeopardy tonight. They showed a picture of the band and I pointed to the screen and informed my family that he was the smallest man who ever lived. And lest you think I’m the teenager, I’m the 51 year old mom of this house 😂❤

Matty Healy love bombed her last summer whilst she was going thru her break up with Joe Alwyn. He showed up to the Eras tour, went out in public with her. Didn’t hide away like Joe. Then he ghosted her when she started getting bad press for being with him. We all thought it was just a casual fling until this song.

PS the tea on the song is it's about Matty Healy who she dated briefly last summer (rusting my sparkling summer) they had a little bit of a history going back to 2014. They flirted but never actually dated and it sounds like he told her she'd reformed him and he was ready to get married and have kids and then he just ghosted her after a lot of obvious addiction issues..

Matty's addiction ended 5 years ago. Taylor knew. So people are being disingenuous saying that he had addictions and that Taylor knew. Taylor followed every move of Matty's. She knew all his songs, his album covers and all his interviews and everything he said on stage at his concerts. It is all over her last album. He ghosted her maybe because the Swifties did not stop going after Matty when they saw Taylor was dating him calling him terrible names and writing Taylor to end it with him. This is why Taylor wrote a song furious at Swifties calling them vipers in empath clothing who are judgemental creeps. And more she wrote in that song. If she would have told off the Swifties while they were saying what they were saying while she dated Matty who she was wanting for 10 years, maybe Matty would not have ghosted her or maybe he still would have. He was a recovering addict and he needed peace.

Matty Healy is the lead singer from 1975. When she says you kicked out the stage lights but you're still performing, she's referring to him ghosting her and hanging a sheet that said SORRY during one of his concerts. It pissed her off big time! I bet he's feeling the burn 🔥 now... 😂😂😂😂
Matty was at the Philly Eras show I went to last May, and my friend and I were so excited at the time to see her current beau there. All I can think now is that if it was this May he wouldn’t make it out of a stadium full of Swifties alive 😂

Taylor is the only one who knows who and what her songs are about. We can only guess.
But the fact that every male reactor seems to think that the sentence you didn’t measure up in any measure of a man is about his physic’s and his “bedroom abilities”…
That’s just one measure. (It’s much more to it than that)
I think most women takes that sentence in a very different way. If you’re listening to the whole album, down bad, fortnight and so on. You get a picture of a man who over time are love bombing her. Talking about rings and cradles, saying she’s the love of his life, makes promises for the future and then when he gets her. When she leaves a 6 yer relationship to be with him, he doesn’t measure up in any way to the image he had drawn up or the promises he had made. He miss treats her and she’s left wondering what the f just happened. Did he do this because he was writing a book, because he wanted her dead.. This is a song about a man who hurt her so intensely that it should be equivalent to a crime, and for that she feels he should get prison time
Exactly! I’ve noticed the same thing. Men always think it’s about physical size, but all women know that it goes so much deeper than that. So much more goes into a woman’s perspective of a man that “measures up.”
It’s about character.
Maybe because I'm a teenage boy and not a "man" yet, I think the same way as you do. I don't think she's mentioning the size of his thing, just how he acted wasn't how a man should act like.

Interesting deep cut, in Matty's song Chocolate (also referenced in Tortured Poets Department) he says, "We got guns hidden under our petticoat." She's so good (so are your reactions). Matty Healy from The 1975 . A 10 year situationships and she held on to their flame and as soon as she broke up with her boyfriend of 6ish years she called Matty. He showed up and couldn't handle the fame, success of swift as well as the scrutiny that comes along with dating her. They have written songs about each other back and forth for a decade. He would sweet talk her and love bomb her just to vanish after 2 weeks of having her to himself. It's gross to do that to someone. It shows that she always loved him and was willing to take all the bad press but he couldn't hack it, not even enough to say goodbye.

Younger Taylor fans incorrectly think this song is about Matty Healy. But in the eras concert she’s marching into battle with a drum in the bridge to fight “the Great War” (a prior song of hers” to save her love with Joe. In the concert in the end she dies trying to save it and fails. Anything ship or war related is Joe Alwyn. She said she had a mental break after so anything mental asylum (the song Fortnight for example) is Matty Healy related.
Younger Taylor fans, you're beautiful & destined for an amazing future & I think you're all smart enough to think for yourself using context clues & public information about Joe and Matty! I'm going to include some facts to show why this IS NOT about Joe & you guys decide for yourselves k?
1) Joe has never been called somebody who's been in "stoned oblivion" or "tried to buy some pills" but Matty IS in fact a known addict 2) Joe has never "kicked out the stage lights" but is "still performing" but obviously Matty has done that many times. Joe only acts in films now, not on stage 3)Taylor was never "forbidden" to Joe but she was to Matty because they started getting flirty in 2014 but never had a chance to act on it as she was in other relationships 4) Matty is known for wearing "Jehovah's Witness suits" just look up any pic of him 5) She & Joe seemed to be pretty much mutually, bitterly done with each other at the end ("You're Losing Me" ring a bell?) so Joe didn't "ghost" her, but Matty clearly seemed to suddenly disappear last June-Julyish. Besides all of that stuff that has to do with Matty, he actually did a marching band number exactly the way she's doing it (just smaller) in his show & he also looked like he had passed out or died on stage & was carried out by two people exactly how Taylor ends the song going into I Can Do It With A Broken Heart (there are videos of the 1975 performances online). She's also been known to like posts that show people deeply analyzing her songs but that doesn't mean she's confirming what people are saying (ie: When she liked the idea of the Tortured Poets being about the five stages of grief and made those playlists, but that is not what the albums are about) And my work here is done!

This is my take also. There is always the possibility she's layered parts if tiher relationships, this one though? For me, this one is all dumbass MH. From the songs we know about JA, their relationship dies. He was careless with her. Ther was heartache and pain, but MH wrecked her in new, unique, and heartless ways.
