To get the actual preservation boon from canning that you need to actually COOK the canned items once you've jarred them. It's the pressure sealing that actually preserves the food. Well, one mod that I would recommend is the food preservation mod. It's a very simple mod that adds in traditional food preservation techniques like salting or pickling or canning That allows for you to safely store multiple things for long-term. For example you could catch a fish and then salt it in order to keep it preserved long-term allowing you to stock up for food
If you're gonna go nomad, you might as well enable sprinters for the true experience. There was also a mod where sprinters could climb tall walls. Just in case you're gonna waver on that determination to play nomad lifestyle later on. And for the record, I survived around a week and a half, till that damn heli attracted too much of a horde that my boxcar broke down.
Some thoughts. I hope this helps the intrepid nomads out there :) -It was a recent update this year to change how you can purify water in a Bucket. I used to use a BBQ Grill to clean my water so I didn't need electricity to get some clean water, now Buckets can only be purified in a Microwave, which does require power. -If weight management is a thing to think about, Eating 1/4 of cereal (a food that is at -40 hunger but about 2360 Cal. all together) or eating Tortila Chips (-15 Hunger 420 Cal.) over normal Chips (-15 Hunger 720 Cal.) whenever possible will stretch your weight gain and keep your hunger at bay. Their are other items of course that are better but to know both Chip types are not alike in calories makes one think.. -If you use a generator when you make camp to power lights, have come spare light bulbs. like 2 or 4 perhaps. They tend to burn out quickly unless you have the "Improved Light Bulb Longevity" Mod, which allows you to stretch (or shorten) the lifetime of a light bulb in the settings of your world save. -If you travel offroad, on Regular Heavy Duty Tires (may differ with Standard or Sport), almost 3-4 hrs (in-game time) I did 2 to 8% dmg to them. Mainly the front tires. (No collisions with trees, did drive through bushes sometimes)
If vehicle weight plays a part in wheel wear-and-tear, I had a trailer and my ambulance filled with wood (Trailer weight/space filled: 130 | Ambulance weight/space filled: 169). I'd imagine being on the road or off road all the time will want to be mindful of their tire's health.
You can take bags and fill them over a seats capacity like a generator. Also I think some trailers have refrigerators inside which work on the battery until recharged w/ the engine.
a "cool" addition to rv lifestyle is the Cool bag mod which lets you create icepacks (using ducktape and water from any container such as a bottle) this lets you refrigerate food for 12 hours as long as its stored in a lunch box or a coolbag
I NEVER knew you could transport generators in back seats like that! OMG! Lol... I've left so many behind...... SUPER glad I saw this. Keep up the great work
It's been 2 years but I've found that the weight limit doesn't seem to matter if it's a single item in an empty container, I'm always stuffing things in seats that shouldn't fit
LETS GO I LOVE RVS My personal preference is the autotsar bus with rv interiors, as it lets me customize the inside while also not having basically infinite water.
My current play through, I’m using antibodies, and am so glad. I found a 94% fleetwood bounder (the big RV) and got a horrible rng bite from my first injury. It had no gas when I found it, so I drove to a gas station, and just hunkered down with the entire contents of food from the gas station until I beat it. It was hard, and I was sure the mod wouldn’t work, but it’s so nice to have. Since then, I’ve been building up supplies and making my way north to Westpoint. Found a sledge so I looted the gun shop. I own a couple suppressors for my guns in real life, so I allow myself to use the silencer mod in game. Just using the vanilla guns. I found a second bounder rv outside the gun shop and have made a temporary base camp at the auto parts store on the east side of town. Plan is to get a truck to do supply runs and bring other vehicles in to boost my mechanics skills so I can get one or both RVs as close to 100% as possible, and upgrade the suspension, muffler, tires, etc. then head to Louisville. It’s super fun to have a mobile base with an interior. I’ve started knocking out walls inside to build more storage, and taken a deer head and American flag to adorn my walls.
I find that being organized and know how to make metal crates really help maximize your RV carry capacity. Over 1500 carry capacity mean a lot for having a confined space.
Viperrels Recycling Center, Primitive Survival. These two let you make basic stuff with materials that you normally wouldn't be able to make, like gas can, screws, hammer, holster, etc. I also start as mechanic. I only really carry nonperishable cooking food, I don't even bother picking it up if it isn't beans, rice, flour, cereal, etc, but I have quite a few mods that let me get cheese, milk, etc without the need for refrigeration. Since they upped the weight of food, there is a benefit to making the effort to cook, the cans weigh a pound but are only one meal. I pretty much just live off of MREs (which are also heavy) for the first couple months until I get cooking situated. Carry both grills, we're using propane for welding anyway. I stopped driving around in my main storage car in these runs though. I park outside of town, run in and steal a town car, then make deposits with it. My truck is usually the commando or the deuce and a half and they are way too clunky and loud to be driving around, even if they are armored. The armor doesn't do me any good if I get surrounded, which can happen in a heart beat because sprinters.
Top tip: skill book for mechanic and grab the VHS autocar 1/2/3 and you can grab level 0-4 in one sitting (one VHS and skill book will get you lvl 2 easy)
Something I really wished could be added was a functioning train with interior and such, I had this Idea for a run where the train would be the main base and the RV would be like a mobile command center where I would keep simple supplies, but I doubt they would add a train.
What about setting up caches, is it worth it? Something like consolidating all the stuff in one place when you first go looting or at least anything that you think you might need in the future but can’t pick up right then? How long do rain collectors keep their water? Just like the item cashes why not set up water cashes?
So I just got the game yesterday and started as a RV nomad. Was driving down the highway quickly because I got the speed demon trait. A string of bad luck hit me because I couldn't see far enough ahead and rammed into car wreckage and totaled my hood. So here is a tip. When driving zoom out and always have headlights on in the dark lol.
I’m going to do the opposite my next playthrough that I usually do. I always spawn in rosewood and make my way to bigger towns to “escape” but I’m going to start a nomadish playthrough, I’ve still never gone to Louisville (I’m not that good and don’t want to cheat at all) and find an RV and get the fuck out to the middle of no where and build a nice cabin somewheres. I’m excited, now I just gotta get some time off of work 😅
There are portable cooler mods that resolve the fridge problem, the rvs normally have fridges as well, just keep the vehicle running throughout the night so you don't wake up with a dead battery
Preserving food in a jar also requires sugar. The requirement of so many moderately rare components makes jarred foods unreliable at best as a source of sustenance.
personally, my current playthrough is sorta starting as a nomad before settling down somewhere far away from any existing civilization, and for my vehicle I'm using a bus (courtesy of autotsar's). basically, the bus is serving as a mobile base, and while I'll eventually have a permanent static base somewhere, it'll still be useful for longer looting trips, as it can carry quite a lot of stuff with the amount of crates I can shove in there. also, as it's an autotsar vehicle, I can armor it up pretty darn heavily, and add an extra storage rack on top. i'll probably also find and rig up a jeep at some point as a second vehicle for shorter trips and going to places where the size of the bus would be a disadvantage
Funny I just started a nomad ish run when this video popped up, I like the camper trailer myself gets less damaged. Can drop it off for a supply run into town.
I'm running a dedicated server with RV interior and I managed to get it to work with 250 other mods! Have to teleport people out occasionally but otherwise it is GAME CHANGING.
Even though most players know map pretty good, they either rely on built in map too much or play around same areas they used to play. I would recommend for NOMAD playthrough turn off map (leave only lootable ones) and install mod "draw on maps". It allows you to use lootable maps in towns but for outskirts you need to draw your own map (on piece of paper or on the side of one of lootable maps). I gave me quite good experience. My car broke and i left most of my important tools inside, took only food and left to find a new car (so i can come back and take my stuff or fix my car). I walked for about a week but, visited small villages and drew my map. When i finally found a car i still turned wrong way because i was lazy to draw small roads so my map wasn't accurate enough. I did know location where my car is, just couldn't remember short way back and had to drive long way (i died on my way back though because new car broke in the worst placa possible)
AutoMechanics mod. Use it. You can also use the CDDA system (reading books levels your skills) via books if desired too. I, personally, hate how PZ doesn't automate all of this stuff automatically or allow levels up via skills. What a waste of time for so much of this stuff. Grind to grind. Disassembling 5 million tables doesn't make anyone a master Carpenter in reality either. CDDA genuinely got that system down better out of the two particularly as experimental now allows you to automate leveling throwing for instance via having a access to a wall and baseball/rock. CDDA's skill rust system (just keep a book handy for a refresher) also makes a lot more sense as none of us fully retain all of this knowledge forever. "Use it or lose it".
I am interested in doing a nomad run, rn I'm doing a Real-time run, and I assume everyone gets how nuts that sounds .... night time is a pain, even with max time speed increased, I also have it pretty realistic that zombies Don't respawn for a long time to make it feel like you actually cleared areas and the resawn is to simulate migration from other states .... there are a few tweaks I might do, like the helicopter event, I have the extended mod of it and might have it happen every day or every other day for the beginning weeks of this run cause it is meant to be the beginning of the end so much activity
This is a great guide bro, I've been trying to get the RV interior mod to work but alas no luck. I really enjoy your videos broham, I hope you keep em going!
Worth noting. Unless they've changed it, You can't get mechanical skills "once a day" as duck said. It's actually once every 24hrs. So, don't think you can get your mechanical in for the night before sleeping, and do it again in the morning when you wake up.
By the way, a pretty good mechanic-like start alternative is going Engineer with Amateur Mechanic hobby. This gives you 1 Mechanic 1 Electric and unique Engineer craftables. It's very easy to grind Mechanic 1 to 2, a lot easier than Electric 0 to 1 letting you get hotwire very early. It's my "peon" build for MP. Grab Handyman hobby for +100 HP buildings + good skills and Fast Learner and you'll be very useful to your group.
2:40 wait once per vehicle per day? I thought it was once per part per day? So i can remove 5 radios, and 5 headlights in one day and get exp as long as i have a garage full of cars to do it to?

@@MrAtomicDuck Restarted with your recommendation of Monkey's Nomad mod along with the engine and car parts mods also mentioned in the vid. Least this way i won't have caches all across the map before finding an RV 😅 Not sure if the Occupation and traits for the Nomad are OP or not, i don't always use up trait points. But i've only just got a couple of hrs into this new run. A storage solution for nomad could be a tow behind caravan stacked floor to ceiling with Wooden Crates... Here is a simple QoL trick that will save you some time in most tasks especially levelling mechanics as you did in the video. You can queue tasks so that you don't need to wait for your character to complete what they are doing before you begin the next task. For instance right click the left headlight and uninstall and whilst it's uninstalling you can right click the right headlight, click unistall and your character will automatically move to the next task once done with the first, this can be done with lots of tasks so you can queue up and disassemble a whole car whilst afk

NEVER TAKE "Sunday Driver" Negative trait.
I hope this helps the intrepid nomads out there :)
-It was a recent update this year to change how you can purify water in a Bucket.
You asked for early support and tusk said he would. Tusk fulfills his promises
The duck clan appreciates this gesture from Chieftain Tusk.
Fantastic video, I like how you showcased mods for the specific gameplay style
Glad you enjoyed! Mods are in the description too, forgot to mention that :)
You can take bags and fill them over a seats capacity like a generator. Also I think some trailers have refrigerators inside which work on the battery until recharged w/ the engine.
a "cool" addition to rv lifestyle is the Cool bag mod which lets you create icepacks (using ducktape and water from any container such as a bottle)
this lets you refrigerate food for 12 hours as long as its stored in a lunch box or a coolbag
RV for life... always high quality content from the best duck this side of youtube 👌
RV LYFE BEST LYFE
I NEVER knew you could transport generators in back seats like that! OMG! Lol... I've left so many behind...... SUPER glad I saw this. Keep up the great work
It's been 2 years but I've found that the weight limit doesn't seem to matter if it's a single item in an empty container, I'm always stuffing things in seats that shouldn't fit
LETS GO I LOVE RVS
My personal preference is the autotsar bus with rv interiors, as it lets me customize the inside while also not having basically infinite water.
Yep!!
Just started playing this game and it is incredibly addicting with other people to play it with
I find that being organized and know how to make metal crates really help maximize your RV carry capacity.
Very helpful!
With the skill books you can nearly max out Mechanics with just the tapes if you're careful with how you dole out the xp hits from the tapes.
This is good timing for me. Have been thinking about doing a nomad playthrough for my channel
Glad I could help!
Very usefull, didn't know you could put stuff in the back seats.
Glad I could teach something you didn't know!
Nomad playthrough+ superb survivors can make interesting runs, i crank up how often raids happen so it feels like theyre following me around
I’m excited, now I just gotta get some time off of work 😅
Nomad runs are great fun. Would recommend fishing for survival!
There are portable cooler mods that resolve the fridge problem, the rvs normally have fridges as well, just keep the vehicle running throughout the night so you don't wake up with a dead battery
keeping your scavenging window open can help you keep track of the sun, and roughly estimate the hour of the day
With the RV interior mod, I make the far wall a solid mass of wood crates. The near wall is basically a bed, sink, stove and an ICE box.
Yay Mr.Cute Duckyman!
Sadly don't have any estimates I can give really, but we saw the last patch to Build 41 pretty recently, just a waiting game now!
build 42 unstable about to come out end of december-mid january
Preserving food in a jar also requires sugar.
The requirement of so many moderately rare components makes jarred foods unreliable at best as a source of sustenance.
I love the RV interior mod mixed with the horde night mod, mainly because if I don't want to fight a horde or it gets too much, I can just leave lmao
personally, my current playthrough is sorta starting as a nomad before settling down somewhere far away from any existing civilization, and for my vehicle I'm using a bus (courtesy of autotsar's). basically, the bus is serving as a mobile base, and while I'll eventually have a permanent static base somewhere, it'll still be useful for longer looting trips, as it can carry quite a lot of stuff with the amount of crates I can shove in there. also, as it's an autotsar vehicle, I can armor it up pretty darn heavily, and add an extra storage rack on top.
i'll probably also find and rig up a jeep at some point as a second vehicle for shorter trips and going to places where the size of the bus would be a disadvantage
This is how guides shoud be made
Thank you!
Boil your jarred veggies. You’ll see a dramatic increase in the lifespan
Interesting!
I have the RV Interior mod and I know spawn is random, but are there any places with high spawn rate? I cannot find an RV anywhere
Funny I just started a nomad ish run when this video popped up, I like the camper trailer myself gets less damaged. Can drop it off for a supply run into town.
Good timing then!
Great video, ideas like this bring fun new narratives to the game
Glad you enjoyed!
Just imagine how much better this will be when hunting and animals get added🤩
True!
YES this is exactly the guide I wanted
Glad I could get you what you wanted!
I'm running a dedicated server with RV interior and I managed to get it to work with 250 other mods! Have to teleport people out occasionally but otherwise it is GAME CHANGING.
which operating system is your dedicated server running on?
Awesome with the interior Mods. I imagine those Special Areas are completely safe and Zombie proof hahaha. Just needs a roof access for Farming.
If you have a pillow in your inventory you can sleep in a card without waking up with neck pain.
Love your content, thanks for helping me as a beginner in pz!
My pleasure my friend :)
Planning to do this soon on a vanilla run, this will also kinda train me to learn what items to prioritize on a run.
I know i will Nevers play this game because i have non pc but i can't stop watching 😭
This is a great guide bro, I've been trying to get the RV interior mod to work but alas no luck. I really enjoy your videos broham, I hope you keep em going!
i played a nomad biker using the 2 wheels mod or whatever its called. Was really fun and very challenging, kinda like Days Gone
Thank you mate, another great video !
My pleasure!
Ooh… I’m definitely trying this out! I might do it with Cryogenic Winter as well, that’s a really nice mod.
Go for it!
The Bounder's one door is kind of a death trap.
Definitely gotta be careful with it.
Thank you. One day I'll make it more then one day and I can't wait
Yo if you need a guide to play a singleplayer survival game, you're livin' wrong, the learning curve is what makes it fun
gotta love that nomad / camper life!
Agreed!
i love how you respond almost every comment making you care your subs
Do my best, even though it gets difficult when the videos start to get more comments 😅
@@MrAtomicDuck haha im sure people wont be sad if u dont respond
@@MrAtomicDuck keep up the work i like yo videos
Nomad is so cool to play with the Vehicle Interiors mods.
I agree! Big fan of that mod.
For those crazy drivers like me, shift+w will keep a constant speed of your vehicle.
monkaSteer
2:40 wait once per vehicle per day? I thought it was once per part per day? So i can remove 5 radios, and 5 headlights in one day and get exp as long as i have a garage full of cars to do it to?
HaHA, been back on a PZ binge after a long break. trying a few new (to me) mods. Namely RV interiors and Superb survivors! Always wanted to do a proper Nomad and the interiors mod now makes it a reality!
as of an hour ago i'd made it 32 days and finally saw an RV in Riverside, then got ass whooped by a raider group while i was walking over to it 😭
First survivor mod encounter... Already considering going back to just me and Zs 😅
Yeah, can't say I enjoy the Superb Survivors mod, but hopefully we'll get them in-game before too long :)
@@MrAtomicDuck Restarted with your recommendation of Monkey's Nomad mod along with the engine and car parts mods also mentioned in the vid.
Least this way i won't have caches all across the map before finding an RV 😅
Not sure if the Occupation and traits for the Nomad are OP or not, i don't always use up trait points. But i've only just got a couple of hrs into this new run.
A storage solution for nomad could be a tow behind caravan stacked floor to ceiling with Wooden Crates... Would be something like 1800 accessible storage 🤔personally i feel that's Cheesing it hard though, would be like what 1.5x 'Petyrbilt' trailers being towed by a poxy motorhome 😆
Though i would refit one as a workshop... like the on in my back yard 'irl' 😁
As a new project player thank you
My pleasure!
A coolers mod/using a freezer in the rv interior is really required
Most of the RV Interiors have a fridge :D
Here is a simple QoL trick that will save you some time in most tasks especially levelling mechanics as you did in the video. You can queue tasks so that you don't need to wait for your character to complete what they are doing before you begin the next task. For instance right click the left headlight and uninstall and whilst it's uninstalling you can right click the right headlight, click unistall and your character will automatically move to the next task once done with the first, this can be done with lots of tasks so you can queue up and disassemble a whole car whilst afk
I wish the game had procedural generated cities.
In Cataclysm dark days ahead the game world is sheer endless and no city or town is like the other. Making for a really good nomad play trough.
Sounds like my ideal playthrough.
Best way to play imo!
@@MrAtomicDuck And it lets you make up a little storyline in your head.
Okay but, can you go into the RV/does it have essentials or the ability to add some, like a fridge or freezer, oven, etc?
Hi, how can I open this menu thing to change sits like you did on 09:28 I subscribed you please answer😂
Hold "V" when in the vehicle.
@@MrAtomicDuck Thank you soo much bro keep recording I love your videos
Did not realize you could fit generators in seats like that.
Yessir!
love the vids duck!!!
Thank you!
even after 2K hours.... I did´t knew about the jars.
txs
My pleasure!
I'm one year late. But one great mod that goes along with RV nomad is standarized vehicle upgrade.
Wouldn't it illogical if apocalypse happen and noone thought of covering their vehicle with armor? This adds RV vehicle a modification for armor
This mod is even compatible with vanilla vehicle(obviously), filibuster, and some autotsar vehicles mod.
Doomsday Motorhome is a great mod for nomad runs!
adds a postapocalyptic RV with 2 stories and a lot of storage to the carpool.
I'm seeing alot of issues reported. Does it still work?
@@Sievert31 yea man, works fine for me. altough I didnt try it in multiplayer. only singleplayer.
@@generalbarnes7781 gotcha thanks alot !
I'm having some issues with the Interior mod. Can you build portable shelves and place them inside the Interior? When I place a 'wardrobe' it seems to hover instead of placing at ground level. Anyone else had these issues and any fixes?
try that with cryogetic winter :3 at worse climate settings from time to time to spice stuff up
on our server we have few nomads boy they got suprised when Winter came well stocked on stuff but las night they begged for location of the HUB so they can survive the winter. Good thing also cuz soon zombie exodus will start
Im p sure endlessly failing harder repairs is faster to level up as you dont have to deal with the time delay on exp gains
It is like a pre-group "Dale" run. If you use the RV*.
Jerry cans mod would go along well with this, storing water and gas without dragging a dispenser
Hi I hope you can help me with this problem. Dunno if a lot of people have this mod installed but i recently added the mod RV interior, but when i tried to load up the game it would be stuck in Ui_loading_texturepack, when i removed the mod however, the game would load up normally.
imagine if you could move inside the rv and use it as if it was a home, that'd be so cool
Im currently in a nomad playthrough and i use houses for a night or short time when i get overwhelmed my zomboids i stay there for a night or 2 and scavenge other houses but ive traveled a very far distance
Turk's Lasting Jarred Foodstuffs is a great mod for long term food.
